I've been slowly working on updating my website and it's been a surprisingly emotional task. I suppose taking inventory of the totality of my career cannot be done in isolation of taking a similar inventory of my life generally. Reflecting on the series of events that has brought me here, to this very moment - my childhood in the suburbs of NJ, my intense college experience in downtown NY in the wake of 9/11 (and just realizing that anniversary is today, weird), the complete blur of my 20's, 12 Burning Man trips, the addictive toxicity of the NYC hospitality industry, the collapse of my marriage, my big escape to the Catskills completely alone but with a new business card and a few big ideas... 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫It's been a goddamn wild ride! And it seems I'm still locked in. Most of the time my hands are gripping the bar with white knuckles trying to steer the car even though it's on its own tracks. And sometimes my hands are in the air enjoying the free fall, letting go of the illusion of control, forgiving myself for less than great choices and celebrating whatever success I might have been responsible for. 🎢And now, after some serious existential shit, my updated website is live (though still totally imperfect.) Ultimately every forest creek or beach trip ends with the same difficult moment of deciding which rocks or shells to bring home. It's a painful process. But they can't all make the cut and it's even more important to be selective when they have to go back on a plane. I feel good about my choices. They're a proper collection in their own right with related shapes and hues. They stack well together. They're relatively small and they don't look much like river rocks Id find at home. The golden orange and miny sage palette are really working for me. It was rough with the exciting pink and mauve options ... And some of the larger ones were really special. Special moments from a very special day. I'm so proud of this work - the art, the installation, but mostly this world we're creating. It's full of joy and deep contemplation, generosity of spirit and resources and time. We work together, we play together. Our children wander in adorable tiny herds. It is why we are surviving these times. This sisterhood is as ancient as the first fires. We sit in circles and mend things, generate things, share things. We've spent the last six months examining LIGHT - learning about its properties, sharing its magical qualities, and deLIGHTING in its mystery. And now we are coming together for @upstateartweekend to BUILD LIGHT together!"BUILDING LIGHT" JUNE 25-29 12-6pm daily ✨The members of Community Hinterland come together for a collaborative installation exploring light as medium and as subject - through an artistic and scientific lens they will illuminate the various attributes, qualities and curiosities of this foundational element of our existence. ⚡Activating a historic building, the old hardware store on Main Street in Phoenicia, they will center raw materials in this raw space to construct an interactive exploration of this theme, inviting visitors to participate in a deep dive from the depths the ocean to the far reaches of space, reflecting on the very light that animates us from within! Really into GRIDS right now. Found this excellent ultra matte porcelain tile with a pencil thin grid pattern and I LOVE HIM. Also have you been to Tile and Stone Depot in Kingston yet?? I'm working on a pro bono project with a super tight budget and we found some excellent tile for .99 sq ft and we were thrilled with the selections! 😭🙏🏽✨#tile #pets #interiordesign #weirdo by @jls.lifestyle
