Ok. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t wait to start talking about this book! It’s my first of many kids books and will be coming out in September! There will be more info to come but I first want to shoutout my amazing publisher @ripplesmediabooks and the illustrator @jeffreydehut without them this book would still be just a nice idea. Most of all, I’m thankful for my wonderful wife @joanna.arcieri who has pushed me to go all in with my writing and pursue what the Lord has laid on my heart! by @joelconwell
I still can’t believe that this is real life- my first book is finally available. (Link in the bio) None of this happens apart of from God, though- none of it. Seriously, how things lined up for this to happen is proof that God exists and that He is intimately involved with our lives. If I don’t do school for psychology then I don’t end up with a masters in LMFT which lays the groundwork for this. If I don’t go into ministry in VA then I don’t end up in DE. If I don’t leave DE and ministry then I don’t end up at Cisco and living in SC. If I don’t work at Cisco I don’t meet people who push me to write a book. If I don’t live in SC then I don’t meet people who help me with the whole process like @joshua_p_trout who then points me to @palmettopublishing If I don’t work at Cisco then I don’t have the money or time to write the book. Look, we all have ideas of how we envision our lives playing out. However, the sooner we let go of that and lean into God, the sooner we find peace in the process and joy in the outcome. Never settle. The version of “be thou my vision” is still my all time favorite and has been the song that has carried me through all the crazy times these past few years! by @joelconwell
Day 72 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is little messes. I swear, I find these little hashtags everywhere in our house in the oddest places. The bathroom, their bedroom, the kitchen, under the Christmas tree (yes we’ve already set it up), and many other places. I love a clean and tidy home as much as the next person (speaking of, I need to clean my office soon), but there is something about a little mess that reminds you of your kids. One day my house will be clean because the kids will be long gone and I’ll be wishing we had little kids making all kinds of little messes. If I ended my life today, I’d never get to see another little hashtag in an odd place or spend countless minutes of my day cleaning up the little messes. I’d also never get to see the day when my little kids grow up and leave the house. Day 71 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is my fuzzy pullover. I would always see people with a fuzzy pullover and would immediately think to myself how comfy they looked. I could imagine wearing it on a cold morning being happy as a clam feeling toasty and warm. So one day I pulled the trigger and bought my first one (funnily enough it’s the inverse colors of this one, green with black trim and accents). Let me tell you, this thing is absolutely perfect for the early mornings coaching CrossFit. There aren’t many things that make me overly happy in the early mornings, but a good, fuzzy pullover does a pretty good job. Funnily enough, Edmund is not a fan, but the girls, obviously, love to snuggle up with me when I’m wearing the pullover. If I ended my life today, I’d never get the chance to wear this pullover ever again. My girls wouldn’t get to snuggle up with me in the glow of the Christmas tree. Day 70 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is imaginary play (with or without my kids). These are actually my childhood micro machines. I would play with these exact toys for hours and hours and hours. And maybe that’s why I gravitated towards games like Age of Empires, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and then later Minecraft. Being able to imagine and then create is such a powerful thing. Edmund and I, mainly me, created a battle scene with a full story and stakes. It took me back to being that 6 year old making up wars and epic battles on the kitchen table. If I ended my life today, I’d never get to slow down, sit down, and play make-believe with my kids. I’d never get to be reminded that life isn’t all about job titles, but enjoying the life I’ve been given with the people that have been given to me. Day 69 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is getting dressed up for Halloween. Although barely anyone saw Edmund and I’s duo costume of Frodo and Gandalf (because the little hobbit was about as difficult as the real hobbits) it was well worth the scratchy beard and wig. I know that not everyone is a fan of Halloween and that there are others who think that adults dressing up (especially as much as I do) is a non starter. However, I think that life is too short to not do so. Watching my kids enjoy this part of their childhood is great. Joining them in the joy and fun, is a whole other level to the experience. I’m already thinking about how I can join the girls or Ed in costume theme for next year. So, if I ended my life today, I’d never get to be a part of Halloween with my kids. Even worse, I’d rob my kids of the joy that they’d also get having their dad dress up with them. Day 68 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is when people remember things you like. Ever since I was in high school, I’ve LOVED mint M&Ms. Back then, they only brought them out around Christmas time so my parents would put a bag in my stocking as well as inside the stockings for my brother and sister James Arcieri and Elyce Arcieri Eventually, they made them available year round and that may have made interest wane in the general public, but not me. While I’m not indulging in mint m&ms daily, my mother-in-law did send me these today with a card that talked about how she hoped these would help soften all the frustrations concerning my knee and finger. Another friend knew how much I love cheesecake and love a local cheesecake place, so when I first hurt my finger, he had it delivered to my house. That’s the thing, if I ended my life, today, I’d never give my friends and family another chance to remember things that I like and do things special for me with that knowledge. Day 67 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason, and this may be one of my weirdest ones, is my Tupperware of yogurt. I know, but hear me out. I’m not even that big of a fan of this breakfast that I’ve had every morning for the past 8 years. Two oikos triple zero vanilla Greek yogurt cups and two scoops of vanilla protein. Sure you get a breakfast that has the consistency of spackle, but you also get loads of protein as your first meal. So many people know me and know my yogurt because when they see me, they see me when it’s time to eat my yogurt. And that’s why it’s a reason. Trust me, I’d be just fine never eating this dish but not because I’m dead. If I ended my life today, I’d miss out on all the jokes about the yogurt or about how I have to take a couple seconds to answer someone because I’m nearly choking on the food. I’d miss out on the funny and joy that this stupid little Tupperware half-full of half-dried yogurt cement would bring me. Day 66 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is a medicine marvels. Does that make sense? Either way, it’s still fascinating to me that someone came up with the idea for the MRI machine. Being able to see inside my knee to see what’s really going on with my meniscus and all it took was 15 minutes on a bed, is pretty incredible. I know that a lot of healthcare gets flak for a multitude of reasons, but today I’m thankful for an 8 minute drive to a local imaging place, a short session, and then I’m back home all in under 45 mins. We will see how bad the meniscus is and I’m sure it’s not going to be something I want to hear. However, if I ended my life today, I’d never have a chance see new marvels in modern medicine that will be coming in the near or far future. Day 65 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is a cold morning with a warm sun. When I took this picture, I felt as if I could even see the warmth of the sun in its rays peaking through the trees. (Also not AI). South Carolina doesn’t get nearly as many of these as other states in the US, but when they happen, chef’s kiss. Mornings like this often make me think about some of those mornings in the past when I was staying in the mountains. A major perk to coaching the early CrossFit classes is that I get to experience these kinds of mornings as a regular occurrence during this time of year. If I ended my life today, I’d never get to breathe in the brisk morning air through my nose while also feeling the warmth of the sun on my face. Yes, I’d choose this weather any day over summer weather. Day 64 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is pickup basketball. Also enjoy the picture of me in highschool with patented tongue box out. I didn’t necessarily enjoy playing basketball until I started playing pickup basketball at the local YMCA. After that I had some of favorite basketball memories in local Y’s or at outdoor courts. Long before I dropped into CrossFit gyms to workout when I was traveling, I would go to local gyms or ask people in the area where any pickup games were happening. Now, more than ever, I miss playing pickup because my knee and finger will not allow it. You best believe that once I’m better I’ll be back on the court. Don’t get it wrong, I’m not the best basketball player, but I’m one of the funnest people you’ll play with. I’m not as good as people like @coachhudfricke or @paulcadavos If I ended my life today, I’d never get the chance to play again when my knee and finger are better. Day 63 of posting a reason to stay every day for 100 days. Today’s reason is my Kia Stinger. Say what you about Kia’s, but I love this car. It also helps that it has a uniquely colored wrap. Almost every time I drive it I receive a compliment on the color of the car itself. Honestly, it encapsulates how I operate. I’m not super fancy or wealthy or incredibly talented like so many other people, but I’m different enough to be noticeable amongst all those people. Maybe that’s why I’m such a fan of it. As if we’re kinsmen, zooming through this game of life in sport mode. My girls love to ride with me and have all the windows (included the sun roof) open anywhere and everywhere. Usually listening to some j-pop song. If I ended my life today, I’d never get the chance to go for a another drive with my girls, or to get compliments at the gas station while I pay an arm and a leg to fill it up.
