Phreeagent Turns One (And I Almost Missed It) Turns out, our anniversary passed without me even realizing—until @LinkedIn started sending me congrats messages and people began reaching out. That’s when it hit me: Phreeagent Creative Media just turned one, and at the same time, I’ve officially been in video production for 20 years. Back in 2005, I started as a producer at Ace Film Company, and co-founded Ocean Media BC with @darkosikman in #Vancouver. After moving to the Okanagan and working with Sproing for almost a decade, I started Phreeagent last year. Since then, I’ve had the chance to collaborate on all kinds of projects, with amazing people. And now, leading Phreeagent in Vernon, BC, I get to continue doing the kind of work I love—with the kind of clients who truly get it. It’s been a packed and rewarding first year. Some highlights from Year One: 💫Edited the documentary @horsewomandoc , produced for TELUS @storyhive with artist @mariel_belanger Belanger MFA @sienna.belanger Worked with the @freshoutlookfoundation twice, documenting their C.A.R.E. events and climate action work by our local students Produced brand and podcast content for clients including @ultradeckflooring @cabin_works_ @sascufinancialgroup @cityofvernon @intimate.wellbeing @transistor.fm @feedyoursoul_podcast @wesmontgroup @lekkerlanddesign and many more Collaborated with @cfnokanagan and @bepurppl on a local impact video tied to the documentary screening of @uncharitablemovie Movie Nominated for Best New Business by the @greater_vernon_chamber —a huge honour in our first year And yes, we still managed to have fun on set—because when people feel comfortable and confident, the best stories come out naturally. Grateful, Always To every client, partner, and creative we’ve worked with—thank you. To @randi.lynnmarie Buerfeind — our drone pilot/videographer/photographer and steady force behind the scenes—couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you @permiekeli Westgate and Ben for your love and support. And to everyone who’s messaged, shared, or supported us this past year: we see you and appreciate you. THANK YOU! ❤️ by @joephreeagent
Joe here. 😉 SONGS IN THE KEY OF PHUNK is the first time I’ve put out a full collection of songs on my own. No rules, no limits—just everything I love about music in one place. There’s rock, R&B, spoken word, even a little Portuguese flavor. It’s all in there. The only thing that didn’t make it was my heavy metal roots! Writing has always been my way of processing life, and the last couple of years gave me a lot to write about. I filled notebooks, phone notes, whatever was nearby. Some of these tracks started as stream-of-consciousness ramblings, and somehow, they turned into songs. And yeah, I used AI to help bring them to life. It’s just another tool—like a weirder, faster version of an engineer/producer/mixer. It hasn’t replaced my instruments, though. If anything, I’m playing more these days. I don’t sing, but I definitely hear voices in my head—voices that should be singing these songs. Familia Portuguesa? That’s a Mariza or Nelly Furtado track. Keep Dusting needs the raw energy of Thunder Queens or The Linda Lindas. Dazzle & Sparkle? Michael Bublé could kill it. And Never Let Me Down? Well, that’s Jann Arden k.d. lang duet waiting to happen. A guy can dream. This album also marks the first without Wangles (Doug Elliott), but the spirit of our work together is still there. Making music with him reminded me how much I love this. It’s different doing it solo, but also exciting. I’ve always been the one cheering other artists on—now I’m stepping up with a pen in my own way. So here it is. Songs In The Key of Phunk is out now. Hope you give it a listen and connect with some of the songs. Thank you! ❤️🔊🎼👊✍️ Phunk out! 🎶 phunkandwangles.com https://open.spotify.com/artist/1GizSMvv6Q36WCC6b7xsRy?si=kikjqTWXS7y67XcoKquTuw https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nlzcSBn9M-kQEtC0VxJBuPnIliG5bqhf0 #music #newmusic #phunkandwangles #SITKOP #grammys #madeyoulook 📸 @randi.lynnmarie by @joephreeagent
I write every day, but I don’t share every day. As I start to write this post, memories of blog writing back in the day pop into my head — when it felt like I was over sharing Chico’s Observations too frequently. Then I joined a writing collective in Vancouver, Factory4, with some super-creative writers and spoken-word artists. Everything felt right again — about writing. Re-inspired. Circa 2000–2005. Present day. Every morning, I write. So I haven’t stopped. But writing and social media are weird. At first, it felt like the perfect fit: built-in audience, grow your audience, instant. Then you slowly realize that either no one reads much, or they definitely don’t want to read your shit. Video and photographs. Storytelling without words. The summer was up and down. It started sunny and friendly, then quickly turned fiery and unpleasant. Our friends-and-family time was cut short, but filled with love. The love pouring back into our supportive community helped turn those frowns upside down in the city. Music helped heal and bring joy to us all. First, an unforgettable weekend brushing up against the stars in Vancouver, with amazing performances by @dominicfike and @tameimpala Love returning to our old stomping grounds! The music kept rolling locally, with @akadaisyband releasing their first single, KNOW IT ALL. Wow!! Another highlight of the summer was spending some time with the guys in the studio and getting to hear these new songs coming out soon. Can’t wait!! Plus, all the visual work at @phreeagentcreative kept things busy. Meeting new clients and creating new stories taking us into the fall and this last quarter of 2026! Let’s see what tales are written next for the rest of 2026! #Love #vernonbc #vancouver by @joephreeagent
TAKE YOUR SHOT❤️ These songs started the way they always have for me — notebooks, fragments, half-finished thoughts. I’ve always been a lyricist first. Poems, lyrics, short stories slowly turning into songs. Yes — all the words are mine, and some of the music was shaped with AI. I know that’s a big conversation right now, and I feel it too. I’ve wrestled with the ethics, the energy use, the copyright questions, and I’m still unsure how I’ll use it going forward. But in this moment, it opened another creative doorway and helped me hear these songs differently. New tools always arrive with friction — samplers, turntables, drum machines, synthesizers, DAWs, presets. Every one of them sparked the same questions about authorship, ownership, and influence. Those debates didn’t stop music from evolving — they helped shape it. For me, intention always comes first: an endless creative energy that keeps learning, playing, writing, staying present, visualizing the future, and trying to shape those feelings into songs. “It’s my words coming alive, and it still blows my mind to hear it.” #phunkandwangles #TakeYourShot #newmusic #songs #album by @joephreeagent

One of the first things I wrote when I got back from Portugal were those lyrics: Adeus, Portugal Até à próxima, Lisboa Adeus, adeeeuuuuuuusss Eu não quero ir embora Meu amor, Portugal Adeus, adeeeuuuuuuusss Até à próxima, Lisboa Adeus, adeeeuuuuuuusss Eu não quero ir embora Até à próxima, Lisboa Até à próxima, Lisboa Meu amor, Portugal Meu ammmmooooooooooorrrr It had been nearly thirty years since I last set foot in Portugal with my whole family. To return now—this time with my brother, our families, and our parents—felt like a gift you only receive once in a lifetime. I wouldn’t change a thing. Even the little injuries and ailments along the way somehow became part of the story. Everything unfolded exactly as it needed to, aligning us in the same place, at the same time, to create new memories I’ll carry forever. I’m still grinning. There were impromptu family encounters, endless roundabouts, sardinhas fresh from the grill, arroz de marisco steaming at the table—did I mention the food? The heat of the sun, the stretch of golden beaches, the Sporting games and a glimpse of Ronaldo’s mãe, the climb to Bom Jesus, the Oceanário, Fortaleza, Rendufe, Torreira, Braga, the fado of Lisboa… and so much more. Portugal stirred something deep in me, a tide of feelings I am still sorting through. But one thing is certain: I was filled with family love and soaked in every ounce of Portugal my heart could hold. For this trip, I am forever thankful. I’ve been back for two weeks now, yet it lingers as if it were only yesterday. Those three weeks in Portugal cannot be summed up—only remembered, piece by piece, moment by moment. Here are just a few I will never forget. #portugal #algarve #braga #lisbon #albufeira #torreira #rendufe #aveiro #travel #bomjesus #sportingfc #fortaleza by @joephreeagent
Live Music Is Alive and Well in Vernon, BC! Welcome to the Secret Spotlight at the Cheeky Speakeasy—Vernon’s not-so-secret spot for discovering amazing live music. I’m Joe, Chico, Phunk—founder of Phreeagent Creative and part of the recording duo Phunk & Wangles. Friday night marked the very first #SecretSpotlight show—hopefully the start of a brand-new live music series right here in #VernonBC. Inspired by what Noah McLeod, Lolo, and Local Losers Underground brought to the local scene, I wanted to keep that momentum going. So I dreamt up the Secret Spotlight to shine a light on incredible local and Canadian talent. Massive thanks to everyone who showed up, supported #localmusic, and helped spread the word. What made it extra special? Most of the crowd had never been to the Cheeky Speakeasy or seen either artist perform live. Shoutout to REIN from Norsu and akaDAISY for kicking off the series with unforgettable sets. REIN brought his strong songwriting and cinematic soundscapes as they blended perfectly with his unpredictably expressive vocals. So cool! akaDAISY hit us with their raw indie sounds—remarkably, only their third show together. That was hard to believe, as they blended newly written songs that kept the heads grooving throughout the night. The vibe in the room was intimate yet sonically rich—proof that small venues can still deliver big energy. Thanks to Lorna for championing the idea and always backing live music in our community. And to Local Losers and Jay for the sweet sound and support. Catch a few highlights in this video—and follow these artists if you haven’t already. We’ll see you August 29th for Secret Spotlight #2 at the Cheeky Speakeasy. #SecretSpotlight #VernonBC #VernonCheekySpeakeasy #SupportLocalMusic #Phreeagent by @joephreeagent
Well, I did it! I'd been told by many of my students that i should "be a stand-up comedian". I typically responded by saying it's one thing to be funny in class, another thing to try and be funny in front of an audience of people you don't know! So, finally, i gave it a try and it was truly exhilarating. Not sure i'll do it again, but also not sure i won't! Big thanks to my pal Joe Pinheiro for coming out & supporting me. by @joephreeagent
