Simpsons Stonecutters 24K gold inlaid in a 14K rose gold pendant hand engraved with disappearing letters. The backside is the most difficult to photograph or video with their motto “We Do We Do”. The engraved background creates a lightning effect that requires no batteries⚡️ it’s always fun to make nostalgic jewelry that will be cherished. TYFFM!

I love the printmaking process and the journey bringing an idea from a drawing, to copper, to ink and paper. I learned hand engraving in Vicenza Italy in 2013. I learned printmaking in Rhode Island with Professor Andrew Raftery in 2022.

Hand engraving is an incredible art form to loose yourself in. Most of my daily work is related to engraving and stone setting jewelry, but I enjoy practicing being a better human figure artist in my free time. Very few people engrave copperplate, it’s more common to etch with acid or scratch with dry point. But the sharpness and crispness of engraved lines carefully cut is what makes it stand out from all other techniques in the printing making world.

18K hand engraved single letter signet ring. Florentine finish crosshatched shank set with two perfectly cut natural diamonds from @grunbergerdiamonds 💎

Past, present & future - roses to symbolize just that. This ring is hand engraved deep relief 14K yellow gold. The background is reduced leaving the roses to become little 3D sculptures engraved and shaded. In the sunlight the florentine finish on the side dazzles and shimmers like no other finish in jewelry. It’s honestly one of the most difficult things to photograph.

My latest commission for a hand engraved engagement ring. The sketch was something that was developed with the customer who loves roses as a symbol of his relationship with his partner. The five roses symbolize past, present & future. The past being a rose fully bloomed ready to drop a petal. Two silhouettes which are petals of the flower symbolizing them, and the rose buds showing multiple futures.

Adding a Florentine finish to jewelry transforms the metal into a satin-like masterpiece. The intricate, repeating lines cut into the surface reflect light, allowing it to dance and shimmer. Having a hidden message inside your ring makes it uniquely yours. Hand engraving the inside of rings is tricky but a part of the job I love. I’m using a 120° and a flat cmax gravers to create the Roman letters with serifs. Thanks for the support! taken in 50th & France by @johnnyoro

Pavé original 13 star American flag I made back in 2017 while I was studying at GIA to be a graduate gemologist.

360 stones total set in sterling silver sheet. I look at this today and it’s interesting to think what I would do differently. I think in general I still love the waving design but I’d tighten up the spacing a bit more now. Still very happy to have made this for our store @diamondsdirectmn it sits in our shadow box in the showroom with the photos of our family’s military veterans.

One this is for sure, if I was going to make another one it would be smaller and using natural diamonds, rubies and sapphires in gold. Happy 4th of July! taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @johnnyoro

A well-sharpened and polished liner graver is essential for achieving a Florentine finish. John Sorich IV demonstrates his method for polishing the graver face without damaging the graver's machining on the bottom. Thanks to @johnnyoro for sharing your knowledge!
