In a few weeks I’ll be travelling to Assisi, Italy, to begin the creation of a painting celebrating the life of St. Francis and working with pastors and thought leaders from across Europe & the USA, exploring a conversation around human flourishing in our modern world.

Illuminaire Volume Three has launched today ✨

I’ve absolutely loved being part of @illuminaireleadership ‘s journey over the past few years and having the opportunity to design all three volumes. It’s always so exciting seeing months of work finally come together in print!

This latest edition explores what it means to lead in an increasingly complex world, bringing together some really interesting research, interviews and stories. We’ve explored the design a little further this time, introducing more colour, layering and illustration.

A massive thank you to Professor Karise Hutchinson @itschrisqueen and @cleo_rigby for trusting me with another volume and for being such a great team to work with!

Special mention to the incredibly talented @vlatko_mitashev for all the amazing photography throughout, alongside the beautiful artwork by artist and friend @jonwhiteart

We’re excited to reveal the cover for Volume Three: The Way of Leadership!

We had the joy of working with Cornwall-based artist and friend of Illuminaire, @jonwhiteart , for the second time to produce the artwork for this volume. Jon beautifully captured the story of The Way of Leadership, and we are delighted that his work wraps the pages of this publication.

‘Mythos is a gestural, intuitive response to a more philosophical and even theological interpretation of the sea. It carries a raw energy that is not neat or complete but invitational - reflective of how we navigate our own stories in an ever-changing world.’

Notes from the studio:

Henry David Thearau said ‘We need the tonic of wildness.’ I imagine he was writing that with those who live in cities in mind. Often I have wondered whether I should live in a city to be more visible, have more opportunity, be more ‘successful.’ But then I realise that I’d end up craving the wild, wide open spaces of a rugged Celtic coastline. The Thin places.

That said, those of us in rural and wild places also need the tonic of the curated space, the diversity of humanity jam packed on top of each other, figuring out the meaning of art and song and life and love and death. I live between these two thoughts - the tonic of the wild and the tonic of a curated city. The city still feeds and inspires me even if it’s only for fleeting moments. In truth I need both.

Sooner or later I return to the reality that my art is created from the fringes and on the edges of wild places - a coastal path, the shoreline, the space between sky and sea. It is art born in the wild but often finding a home in the curated city and this feels right.
