The wasteland in Marzahn, Berlin, received its third intervention this past weekend, the inhabitable star, as part of the third event of Commopoly.
.
Built with 37 degrees going on sometimes and 2000 mosquitos flying about.
.
On the bamboo sculpture, neighbors can enjoy a meal, climb into a stage or simply enjoy a different perspective of the empty "useless" land they've had between their social blocks for decades.
.
Built with 69 bamboos, 200 cm long.
540 x 540 x 540 cm
.
Built with @kaputt_kassette_records and local neighbours
.
More info and images coming on how the whole event unfolded soon.

Chile is officially the Guest of Honour at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2027!

«CHILE, ASTROS DE TIERRA», translated into English as Earthly Stars, is the name of our pavilion—a phrase that connects us to our history, the Chilean literary tradition, and the particularities of our natural surroundings: beneath our feet, all around us, and above our heads.

For centuries, we have looked up to understand who we are. The starry sky reveals that light only appears against darkness and travels across multiple dimensions of time, leaving signs along the way.
Narrative and poetry trace constellations of voices and talents that transcend traditional categories and connect us through the written word.

Today, this conceptual universe takes shape in our visual identity. Chiaroscuro and vibrant beams of light interplay with images of the inhabitants of our land. The typefaces suggest movement, glimmers, and enigmas.

Today marks 360 days till we open the Chilean pavilion next year at the @buchmesse in Frankfurt as guest of honour. Today was the handover ceremony, the Chec Republic handed over the witness after closing their pavilion and allowing us to enter our countdown of a year till we open ours called, Chile, Astros de Tierra, or in english, Chile, earthly stars. Being in Germany so long and be today the curator and designer of the pavilion of my own country here at the Buchmesse, is something very special that I take great pride. Missed every minute the team in Chile who has so passionately made this with me. The video show a little bit the trailer we made of our project with @alvaroaplaplac and @pablojapon. On the last image with Nicolas Leyton Executive director of the project, holding the witness we received, engraved with poems of Chezchia, the Philippines, Slovakia, Spain and many others, and already with ours, with words of Gabriela Mistral.
We will start step by step letting everyone know what we are up to as a team. Gracias Buchmesse, gracias Chile.

Thank you, good bye and hopefully till the next time!

For the time being, after 1,5 years, we are saying goodbye to the Image Collection on the History of Astrology and Astronomy by Aby Warburg made in collaboration with Gertrud Bing and Fritz Saxl at the @planetariumhamburg.

We are currently working on the possibility, as per Warburg’s wish, for the show to stay at the Planetarium Hamburg or elsewhere in the city of Hamburg for a longer time from 2028. The Image collections is the only exhibition that the prolific Jewish-German made in his lifetime. We believe that his vision how to read the sky, how to engage with the migration of images and meanings, how to live beyond „grenzpolizeiliche Befangenheit“ or how to practice the concept of “Nachleben” is visionary, timely and more and more relevant in our times.

Thank you to all the guests from far and near, all the collaborators, all the Warburgians of the world, it was such a pleasure to exchange and learn from you. Now we are also looking for allies, supporters and constellations to make the exhibition live on!

Tomorrow is the last chance to visit Image Collection on the History of Astrology and Astronomy by Aby Warburg, in collaboration with Gertrud Bing and Fritz Saxl, at the Kessel Saal of the Planetarium Hamburg.
.
It has been 15 months since we opened the exhibition, having received thousands of visitors. Tomorrow, we close it — hopefully only temporarily. We are currently in discussions with the City of Hamburg about the possibility of making it a permanent, and the only exhibition by Aby Warburg in his hometown.
.
I want to try to explain the great challenge — and fantastic commission — I received from the curators @jowa_hkhk and Uwe Fleckner: to restage, 100 years later, an exhibition that had originally been presented in this very building.
In the second image, you can see how the original exhibition was installed.
.
Through study trips and many rich conversations with the curators, I began to understand the importance of the ellipse in Warburg’s thinking. For Warburg, the ellipse was not simply a geometric form. Its the representation of two focal points that could be understood as a model for the tension between seemingly opposite forms of knowledge — where it is precisely the relationship between two poles that allows a more complex idea to emerge.
In this exhibition, those poles are astronomy and astrology; science and myth; measurement and meaning; the cosmos as physical matter and the cosmos as something humans have imagined, interpreted and inhabited since the earliest times.
.
To understand the universe above us, Warburg suggests, we need both.
That duality became the starting point for the exhibition design. The ellipse is literally drawn onto the floor of the Kessel Saal in chalk, defining the spatial field of the exhibition. The 17 panels that Warburg developed to articulate his thesis become entrances, exits and frontiers within this space. by @josemdelano

Join our for the time being last walk through the Image Collection on the History of Astrology and Astronomy by Aby Warburg in Collaboration with Gertrud Bing and Fritz Saxl at the @planetariumhamburg on Tuesday, 22.9. at 17:00 with the City Curator Joanna Warsza [@jowa_hkhk] and the curator Prof. Uwe Fleckner.

City Curator Hamburg presents the only exhibition ever personally made by Aby Warburg, Gertrud Bing and Fritz Saxl for the Planetarium. Its contents were long considered lost and were rediscovered only in the late 1980s. Set out as an elliptical journey, the exhibition inquires into how the spiritual and the rational, both essential to human wellbeing, can be brought together and how humans have always looked into the stars to understand our life on Earth.

One month to go - here is a wrap up film of the exhibition FIRE, the second chapter in the City Curator series From the Cosmos to the Commons: Five Year–Five Elements. The series focuses on the elemental forces of Cosmos (2025), Fire (2026), Earth (2027), Air (2028), and Water (2029), dedicating one year to each. Together, they invite us to look toward the horizon of a planetary public sphere, a life with and not against the planet, guided by a sense of the „not-yet“, a felt awareness of what might emerge.

Join us for the outdoor film screening Cinzac da Floresta (The Ashes of the Forest) at the @mahnmalst.nikolai on Friday, 21.8. at 21:00!

The film follows the artist Mundano [@mundano_sp] as he travels throughout Brazil collecting ashes from forest fires. These ashes are used to create large murals in different cities to draw attention to the fires and the vital role played by volunteer firefighters in fighting them.

Ashes from the Amazon region, which were passed on to City Curator Hamburg by Mundano’s collective Cinzas da Floresta [@cinzasdafloresta] in São Paulo, were used to create the mural Tara’s Tears by Cecilia Vicuña [@ceciliavicuna] and Coco Bergholm [@cocobergholm], which is on display at the St. Nikolai Memorial as part of the FIRE exhibition.
