Made the Camp Coat by @laraehandmade last week and am so happy with the result even though I experienced a bit of a pop fastener failure - can you spot i? 😂 Don’t care though as I love it so much. The fabric is by @dalston.mill.fabrics (Soft handle drill in “copper”) and it was an absolute dream to sew. I hope they never discontinue this amazing fabric as it’s so versatile for all sorts of projects. The lining is made from wool which makes the jacket a great “between the seasons” option I know I will reach for all the time. by @joy_of_thread

Another day, another typical outfit. This time the long-sleeved t-shirt is also me-made. I have about 10 of these self-drafted shirts which are in constant rotation.
Same dungarees as yesterday but paired with my Carbeth cardigan (pattern by Kate Davies and yarn is prescious @uistwool - Beòthach Chunky)

Every morning I put on a me-made piece of clothing I feel a deep sense of satisfaction. My clothes are mostly functional and ordinary, but the fact that I can choose materials, and colours and that I have the skills to sew or knit them makes them special to me.
When I started to sew I often made things that were so far off my usual RTW style for clothes that finished projects got one try-on before they got thrown in the back of the wardrobe🙈 I’ve become a more project focussed maker in recent years though and I feel more confident choosing fabric and pattern combinations that I will actually wear a lot.

Wovember Day 3
FIRST WOOL EXPERIENCE
I didn’t come into contact with natural wool until I was an adult living in the UK. I remember “wool” was used as a collective noun for any yarn or knitted fabric in Germany's late 70s/80s. I’m pretty sure the roll-neck jumper I’m wearing here at the tender age of 5 fell into that category. It was soft; otherwise, my mother would not have been able to wrangle me inside it. She once tried what I believe were wool tights on me, and it didn’t end well…they were super scratchy. To this day, the thought of tights makes me itch!
~~~~~~
Fast forward to 30 years when I took up knitting again in earnest, and I got my first taste of real woolly fibre. Like many new knitters, I was initially attracted by smooth merino and silk blends, but this quickly changed after I knitted with New Lanark yarn for the first time. Far from being from an identifiable breed (the fibre used to be whatever mix was available through the wool board), I still loved its stitch definition, durability and crispness, even if it shredded the skin on my tension finger. Listening to @_woolwork ’s excellent podcast was what really ignited my interest in wool breed-specific properties though.
Wovember Day 2:
FAVOURITE CRAFTs
~~~~~
My threshold to be persuaded to try any craft is very low; let's not kid ourselves - there’s none, as I have zero self-control when I enter any shop selling tools and materials.
~~~~~
Over the years, I tried weaving (too much commitment), spinning (life’s too short), felting (why?) and absolutely anything else you can imagine. Still, I always returned to hand knitting, ONE of my favourite crafts. I also got into machine knitting a few years ago and love sewing - I honestly couldn't choose a favourite between them as they all fulfil different things for me.
~~~~~
The craft I would love to be better at is embroidery - I love @Stitchbirdie 's work - go check that out :-)
Wool and natural fibres are my favourite materials to work with; I can’t imagine ever changing that.

Wovember Day 1: INTRODUCTION
Hello! I’m Mica and I LOVE wool :-)
I used to be a pretty prolific knitter, but I lost my mojo during the pandemic and am only slowly recovering but I’m getting there. My enormous stash of wool will keep me going until the end of time, but I still buy some occasionally just to make extra sure I won’t run out.
Knitting (and wool) were my life for a few years when my pal Jo and I used to run a wee annual yarn shindig in Edinburgh. I work for a fantastic company called @molke_uk , and we make the most comfortable bras in the world in a small factory in Perthshire.
Everybody who knows me is aware of my relentless recommendations to start wearing woolly jumpers, and I won’t stop, sorry. Wool is the BEST: not just warm, but also renewable, sustainable and so versatile!
Looking forward to seeing all @wovemberwool posts :-)

Hello, hello after a super long hiatus on this account! Given my shocking lack of posts in the last couple of years it will come as no surprise that I won’t post every day about #memademay ,especially since I’m already 4 days late😂
Saying that, this hashtag, more than anything else on IG, inspires me every year to look at my clothes and think about them in a more conscious way, even if I don’t post anything about it on here.

When Me Made May posts started years ago I always felt that my clothes and photos weren’t “instagramable” enough. It felt like standing on the sidelines cheering on something great that I wasn’t good enough to be part of. My making has improved substantially since then though and I made many things I’m very proud of, but most of all my thinking has improved. I came to the realisation that it’s not about polished photos and pretty makes at all (for me). Most of the things sew are practical, comfortable and unassuming. I’ll try and post some stuff in my stories and might even make it a highlight if I manage enough posts…😂
