An afternoon @datalandmuseum with the @bmwgroupdesignworks team. Nature is complex beyond measure. There is so much to learn from these fragile ecosystems, so much intelligence living inside them. @refikanadol and Efsun Erkılıç have found a way to translate that into aesthetic learning, rendered as feeling. Data can be more than something trapped behind screens. Here it becomes tangible. Emotional. Colorful. Something you hear and taste and move through with every sense. When data becomes experience, you understand it in your body, not just your mind. @refikanadol and Efsun Erkılıç we are in awe of the brilliant journey you are on.#dataland by @julia.de.bono

“Designing the X Sculpture as an automotive designer meant translating a motion-driven visual language into something permanently still. While seemingly counterintuitive, we had to create a sculpture that felt dynamic and future-oriented, yet stable enough to become a gathering place for people, where the final form isn’t just expressive, it actually becomes part of their everyday lives.” — Nicola Mondini, Creative Director, Automotive Design at Designworks LA From first sketch to final installation, the project reflects how automotive design thinking can extend beyond the vehicle itself.#BMWGroup #BMWX5 #automotivedesign #BMWGroupDesign by @julia.de.bono

Created by Designworks in collaboration with BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, the new X sculpture marks both a milestone and a continuation of a story our California studio has been part of for nearly three decades.Unveiled during the world premiere of the all-new BMW X5, the permanent installation celebrates the people, technology and landscape that define the home of BMW X in the United States, translating the dynamic language of BMW X into a lasting brand monument.Following the studio’s role in shaping the original BMW X5 and helping establish the Sports Activity Vehicle, the sculpture continues Designworks’ contribution to the evolving BMW X story through an experience that extends beyond the vehicle itself.#BMWGroup #BMWX5 #Spartanburg #BMWGroupDesignworks #BMWGroupDesign by @julia.de.bono

100 years after it began, Route 66 still asks the same question: where could this road take us?Last week we opened our studio in Santa Monica, just blocks from where this iconic road meets the Pacific. There is something powerful about Designworks sitting at that edge, at the place where land meets sea and one journey ends, while our work is imagining where mobility goes next.In her keynote, Julia de Bono reflected on the feeling at the heart of Route 66: the freedom to choose your own direction. As new technologies reshape how we move, that feeling still matters. The road ahead can still bring us closer to the world around us, to each other, and to the possibility of what comes next.Because while the trail may end in Santa Monica, the promise of Route 66 does not. Thank you to Michelle Edgar, Community Collective Association, the City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica Travel & Tourism and to our expert panel: April L. Mims, Misti Kerns, Teresa Stamoulis, Peter James + moderator Ben Reiss for bringing this evening to life.#Route66 #automotivedesign #santamonica #americanhistory #futureofdriving by @julia.de.bono

During LA Art Week, history found an unexpected new setting just down the street from our Los Angeles studio.Artist Ben Tuna ( @glasscowboyy ) reimagined the BMW Isetta using reclaimed stained glass, exhibited @themotoringclub in LA & hosted by @art First introduced in 1955, the BMW Isetta emerged from a moment when Europe was rebuilding. It offered an accessible, agile form of mobility for a generation eager to move forward again. Compact, unconventional, and unmistakably optimistic, it became an unforgettable chapter in BMW’s story.Ben Tuna continues that legacy through stained glass (much of it reclaimed German glass that once found a home in American buildings) and transforms a vehicle born from necessity into an exploration of light, reflection, and finding beauty in what survives.“Los Angeles has a way of giving familiar forms a second life. Seeing the BMW Isetta here feels less like nostalgia and more like reinvention.”— Julia de Bono CEO / Studio Director Designworks, a BMW Group CompanyFor one week in LA, a symbol of postwar freedom met a city built on reinvention, reminding us that design continues to evolve wherever culture invites creativity. #classicbmw #bmwhistory #artweekla #automotivedesign by @julia.de.bono
