Our Canadian roots are showing!

(W)right On Communications was honored to co-host a welcome reception for Canada's new Consul General in Los Angeles, @kamalkheralib. Thank you to our cohosts: maplesocal and Canada's Consulate General in Los Angeles.

San Diego's @mayortoddgloria became the first U.S. mayor to welcome Consul General Khera to her post in-person. We see that as a sign of more good things to come between Canada and San Diego! Agree, @canadians_in_sandiego ?

🍁 DID YOU KNOW? As the San Diego border region’s third largest foreign direct investor after only the UK and Japan, Canada supports 8,949 jobs and $881 million in wages, particularly in the manufacturing, professional services and retail trade sectors. taken in (W)right On Communications by @juliewrightpr

A little taste of what's to come from Canada at LA28. Canada's women's volleyball team defeated the U.S. team 3 sets to 1 last night.

The American team was impressive and came on strong in the first set but Canada's team rallied and dominated the next three.

FYI, Canada's women's team last appeared in an Olympics in 1996.

The vibes are strong with this team and coach!🇨🇦🏅❤️🤍🏐 I'm seeing an LA28 slot in their future! taken in Jenny Craig Arena University Of San Diego by @juliewrightpr

How do you launch a brand so AI platforms and search engines immediately understand it? We launched two brands and put our AI visibility strategy to the test.

We weren't just introducing WOC | Resonance and WOC | Signal with their launch. We were testing out how a strategic mix of differentiated and consistent messaging, digital content, earned media and SEO best practices could influence AI platforms. How quickly and accurately would Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and others discover, understand, summarize and cite our brands?

The answer was within just a few hours.

Get the full story in the blog post by @juliewrightpr at the 🔗 in our bio.

And let us know: If you were to launch a new brand today, how would your strategy target AI search and AI Overview visibility? taken in (W)right On Communications by @juliewrightpr

Annual Fjordin' Crossin' festival and paddle challenge across the Hood Canal. Huge fun. So many great costumes.

Thanks Kay for the helmets and flair! Nice to have Grant and Charli providing shore support. A little breezier than any of us planned.

"Spark." ✨ It's what AI content misses.

And it makes being an editor today more like being the protagonist in "Blade Runner," looking for clues that someone or something is human, not droid. What am I looking for? Spark.

Spark is in that little space between God's finger and Adam's outstretched arm in Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam." It's the difference between the mundane and the divine.

When your work is your craft, whether you're just starting out or have invested decades in your career, the divine is worth striving for.

The highest compliment I've been paid this week was being asked, "what prompt did you use to produce this draft?"

The answer? Multiple prompts that were applied to AI's first draft, including prompts to improve -- one by one -- the headline, each paragraph and any quotes. With each, I applied my own decades of human-acquired judgment and writing experience to recraft all of it.

The final output, I can confidently say, is 90% human and sufficiently sparky.

Did that first draft need a more thoughtful prompt with clearer guidance on strategy and context? Yes.

Can't I train a Gem or a GPT to replicate a specific style of content and push back on weak prompts? Yes. And I have, but the diversity of specialized subject matter I need to write about makes a single-purpose droid a one-trick pony in a three-ring circus.

As the human editor, today, you are the spark keeper:

1️⃣ - Choose interesting verbs to animate the text.
2️⃣ - Incorporate specific, concrete references that inform versus infill.
3️⃣ - Be concise. Cut mercilessly.

🚨- Watch for "convincing bullshit." That's content that sounds like it's saying something but is in fact a well-assembled word salad.

AI platforms are essentially a technological salad bar for words. They serve up word patterns based on probability. Nothing about that is strategic or creative.

Spark. It's what breathes life into words. And it's uniquely human. by @juliewrightpr

A magical weekend. 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️Congratulations, @brandondawright and @sierra_nicole20! 🍾 @grantcdwright are so happy for you!

The rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception were filled with love and joy. The setting was epic. The vows and speeches were so heartfelt. 🥹❤️

I only took a few photos and they don't come close to capturing the experience. But if I don't share something here, did it even happen? taken in Mesa, Arizona by @juliewrightpr

With every scoop of baked potato filling, I cursed the woman whose recipe I followed online. These potatoes spent nearly 2 hours in the oven and never got nice and fluffy. The starches had not broken down because some dimwit set the oven temperature in her recipe for 350 degrees. I really should have known better!

Any decent chef or cook, probably wouldn't have even needed a recipe for Twice Baked Potatoes, or to have been told what temperature to bake them at. Every experienced cook well knows a baked potato is made in a super hot oven. Like, 400°. Even higher maybe. So why I took this direction from some unseen, unknown internet recipe writer, is unexplainable at this point.

I've started wondering if she was even a real person. Is anyone else wondering on this Thanksgiving whether Russian bot farms are sabotaging kitchens across America by publishing slightly believable recipes that will result in irrational anger and violent impulses? (If they're not doing that, I hope this post doesn't give them any ideas. There are a lot of women with sharp objects in kitchens on Thanksgiving.)

What I really mean to say here is that today I give thanks to my friends and family and the things that are truly important in life, which are not perfect Twice Baked Potatoes. Have a happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍽️🥔🥂♥️ by @juliewrightpr

I have always wanted to talk to @cameronbcrowe about his work. Specifically, "Jerry Maguire," one of my all time favorite movies because it nails what it's like to be a sports or PR agent. ("An up-at-dawn, pride-swallowing siege that I will never fully tell you about." Favorite line.)

Last night, in what he called his "Lucky City," San Diego, Crowe read a chapter of his memoir, The Uncool (highly recommend!), and sat with @katehudson to talk about their shared love of music and experiences on the set of Almost Famous.

I ate up every syllable.

His life story is remarkable. I'll be rewatching Almost Famous with new eyes, especially as it relates to his mom Alice Crowe. Her presence is felt in nearly every chapter of the book thanks to her continuous "aphorisms" that appear at the top of each chapter.

After so many years thinking about my favorite one liners from Jerry Maguire and the themes in the film (in life or business, play with heart and the money will follow), last night was my chance to hear Crowe speak about his work and feel like I was, if not having a conversation, at least in the same room! taken in The Magnolia by @juliewrightpr
