The best thing I can do for my family isn’t work harder.

It’s show up whole.

Not the version of me that’s already been through three meetings, a difficult conversation, and a problem I haven’t solved yet. Not the version that’s physically present but mentally still at the office. The version that actually walked through the door.

That version requires something most entrepreneurs resist — sacrifice. Not the kind of sacrifice we talk about easily, the grind-it-out, sleep-when-you’re-dead kind. The harder kind. The kind where you deliberately leave something on the table at work so you have something left to bring home.

You close the laptop. You silence the notifications. You let the unfinished thing stay unfinished until tomorrow.

I write about this in Still Standing — the idea that the business will always have one more thing. One more fire. One more decision that only you can make. And if you let it, it will take everything you have and ask for more.

Learning to say “that’s enough for today” is not weakness. It is one of the most disciplined decisions a business owner can make. Because the people waiting for you at home didn’t sign up to receive your leftovers. They deserve the version of you that chose them — deliberately, daily, even when the business made it inconvenient.

That choice is the business strategy nobody talks about. Because the person you are at home is the same person who walks into the office the next morning. And the more whole that person is — rested, present, connected to something bigger than the revenue numbers — the better every decision they make will be.

Take care of your family by taking care of yourself. And take care of yourself by being intentional about when the workday ends.

The business will be there tomorrow.

So will they — if you show up for them today.

Whoever said “work hard, play hard” was definitely onto something! 😂

Somewhere between deadlines, meetings, responsibilities, and trying to conquer the world, we forget that having FUN is actually pretty productive!

I’ve learned that sometimes the best thing you can do for your work is to stop working. Go laugh, do something ridiculous, make some memories, and enjoy the people around you.

It’s amazing how a little fun can recharge your creativity, restore your energy, and remind you why you work so hard in the first place.

And here’s the funny part… the more fun you have outside of work, the easier it becomes to have fun AT work!

Life’s too short to make everything a job. So go have some fun. Your to-do list will still be there when you get back. Unfortunately. 😂

Work hard. Laugh harder. Live a little! 🤘

Another trip around the sun, and I find myself reflecting on just how much life can change in a year.

This past year has been filled with accomplishments, new opportunities, incredible experiences, unexpected challenges, and plenty of lessons along the way. There have been moments worth celebrating, moments that stretched me beyond my comfort zone, and moments that reminded me just how blessed I really am.

As proud as I am of the things I’ve been able to accomplish, I’m even more grateful for the people I’ve had the opportunity to share those experiences with. The friendships, relationships, conversations, laughter, and even the challenges have made this year one I won’t soon forget.

I’ve learned that success isn’t always measured by what we build or achieve, but by the lives we touch, the memories we make, and the people who choose to walk alongside us.

To everyone who took a moment to wish me a happy birthday, thank you! Whether it was a call, text, message, or a simple comment, I genuinely appreciate you. I’m fortunate to have some pretty incredible friends and family in my corner.

I’m looking forward to another year of growing, learning, building, making memories, and hopefully finding a little more time to slow down and enjoy the ride.

God has been good, life has been an adventure, and I’m grateful for all of it.

Here’s to another year of making it count!

I made a million dollars with my first gym. It cost me $750,000 to make it.

But the money isn’t the real cost. I’ve watched entrepreneurs win in business and lose at home. Marriages falling apart. Kids who barely know their dad. Nobody should have to go through that.

That’s why I wrote Still Standing.

There are plenty of books on sales and systems. This one connects where you are in your business with where you are emotionally, because you can’t hang your identity on something as volatile as business.

I wrote it like I was talking to my younger self. If you’re a few years in and wondering why you feel the way you feel, this is for you. You’re not alone.

Zoom out. Take care of yourself. Then build.

This is the month.

Still Standing is officially out — and I have to be honest about what that feels like.

I didn’t write this book to be an author. I wrote it because I kept sitting across from entrepreneurs who were carrying things they didn’t have language for. The fear that shows up as procrastination. The identity that gets too tangled up in the business. The slow drift away from the people who matter most.

I knew those feelings. I had lived every one of them.

I’ve already had entrepreneurs reach out to tell me they finally feel seen. That a chapter gave them the language for something they’d been carrying silently for years. That they read something and immediately called their spouse or looked in the mirror and had a conversation they’d been avoiding.

That’s why I wrote it.

If you’re in the messy, hard, beautiful middle of building something — this book was written for you. Not the polished version of you. The real one. The one who’s still figuring it out and refuses to stop.

Order your copy at the link in bio.

Still standing — because of all of you. 📚

I had fourteen trainers on staff at Life Fitness Academy.

Fourteen paychecks. Fourteen schedules. Fourteen people depending on me — while I was also coaching clients, running operations, handling sales, and trying to be a present husband and father.

I thought I was building a business. I was building a prison. And I was both the warden and the inmate.

Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy wrote a book called Who Not How that changed how I think about all of it. Stop asking how to do everything yourself. Start asking who is the right person to do it better than you.

When I actually applied that — really applied it — the business got better. But that wasn’t the part that surprised me.

What surprised me was what I did with the hours I got back. I slept. I worked out again. I had conversations with my wife that weren’t about the business. I started showing up to my own life as someone who had actually taken care of himself that day.

You cannot lead well when you’re depleted. You cannot make good decisions when you’re exhausted. You cannot be who your team, your clients, or your family needs when you’ve spent years treating yourself like the one resource that never needs to be replenished.

Find your who. Hand off what they were built to carry. And use what you get back to become the version of yourself the people around you actually need.

That version of you is the most valuable asset in the whole operation.

Start treating yourself like it.

After more than 25 years of marriage, I’ve learned that a strong relationship isn’t something you build once and then just live in.

You have to keep building it.

Life changes. Careers change. Kids grow up. Responsibilities get heavier. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, it can become really easy to settle into routines and forget to keep choosing each other.

I think one of the best things you can do for a marriage is keep pushing outside of your comfort zone together. Try new things. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Laugh at yourselves. Be willing to look ridiculous. Make memories that have absolutely nothing to do with work, bills, schedules, or responsibilities.

And most importantly, make time for fun.

After 25+ years, we’re certainly not the same two people who started this journey together. We’ve grown, changed, struggled, succeeded, disagreed, laughed, and learned a lot along the way.

But I still want to date my wife.

I still want to experience new things with her.

I still want us to laugh until our stomachs hurt and occasionally do something that makes us both say, “What are we doing?”

A long marriage isn’t about getting comfortable and staying there.

It’s about continuing to grow — individually and together — while never forgetting to have some fun along the way.

Here’s to the next adventure.
