48 years later - I caught people in my garden wooing each other and a lady still gingered but sweet words. Just a reminder that marriage is sweet. Your ‘God when’ is valid. Your God ‘where do they find these type of men or women’ is valid. Marriage is a good thing. 48 years later, you can continue to BUGA.

Exactly a year ago, on the 28th of April 2021, we went for what was supposed to be a normal pregnancy scan. I lay down expectantly, waiting for the sonographer to do her thing, and in my usual way, praise her for being able to differentiate between the head and legs and limbs because how they are able to differentiate the different body parts remains a mystery to me till tomorrow.

But the following statements I heard didn’t prepare me for what was to come or the rollercoaster of emotions I’ve had to deal with in the last one year.
- Have you been bleeding?
- Have you been feeling unwell?
- Any cramps or pains?
No, I haven’t I replied. I feel normal, apart from the typical pregnancy symptoms.

But, why all these questions, I asked?

There’s no heartbeat, she said. No heartbeat, not even one. No, not even one. Please check again. Maybe get someone else in. Do an internal scan, I pleaded frantically.

After all of this, not even one heartbeat.
No words, no tears. Just Utter shock and disbelief. A thousand thoughts were rolling over.
All I could think of was sending a message to my family group asking for prayers and not wanting to speak to anyone.

A year after …… God remembered me. God remembered us. He showed us great mercy and He preserved us. The story has only just begun, but the victory was won over 2000 years ago.

Friends and family, we’ve been getting ready to become a family of 5. Unprepared and unplanned, the Father planted another seed to prove that if you’ve lost one thing, He remains the reason you will never lose everything.

We speak often about Africa's potential. Perhaps we should speak more about Africa's formation.

Potential is not self-executing. A young population does not automatically become a skilled population. Intelligence does not automatically become capability. Talent does not automatically become institution. And natural wealth does not automatically become collective prosperity.

Between what a people possess and what a people become is formation.
That is the space we are deeply interested in at TrainDTrainer.
Because long before capability shows up in an economy, an institution or a nation, somebody has been forming the human being who will carry it, and very often, somewhere in that story, there was a teacher.

Perhaps the conversation about Africa's future needs to begin much earlier than we think.

Not with what Africa has, but with who Africa is forming.

TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More. ❤️
In the heat of very deep work, music came on and, somehow, everybody forgot they had jobs. 😂
One person moved and another joined. Please don’t ask me who moved first. 😂 Before we knew it, professionalism had temporarily left the building. 😭😂

I love moments like this because we work hard, think deeply and build serious things. Thankfully, we are not serious people all the time. 😂❤️
We laugh hard, we gather well and, my God, we eat well. 😂😂😂 There are many things we haven’t figured out yet. But you see food and a heart for the people we are building for? Those two, you can never question. 😂

There is something beautiful about building important things with people you can also be human with. We gather around ideas, problems, possibilities and, with remarkable consistency, food. 😂
This is only about one-eighth of the people building across KOJ and TrainDTrainer, but I hope that as we grow, we never become too big for this: eating together, laughing loudly, bursting a move and remembering that institutions are ultimately built by human beings.

The work matters. But so do the memories we make while doing it.
And yes, before HR sees this, I promise everyone returned to their duty posts after bursting a move. 😂😂😂

People see TrainDTrainer and often see me - my face, my voice, my posts, my name attached to the vision. I understand why.
But I wish people could see more clearly the people behind what they see.
These are only three of them. Behind TrainDTrainer is a whole army of people who have chosen to put their hands to this work with me. People who genuinely care. People who have stayed up late, carried things I didn’t even know needed carrying, sat through my endless ideas, my “I’ve been thinking…” messages, my voice notes, sudden changes of direction and that very dangerous sentence: “I have an idea.” 😂

What moves me deeply is that they believe. They believe in the African teacher. They believe that what happens in a classroom can change the trajectory of a child. They believe teachers can be formed, equipped, respected and positioned differently. They believe what we are building can outlive all of us.
That belief has cost them something - their time, energy, creativity, patience and the willingness to learn, unlearn, make mistakes, start again and keep building.

TrainDTrainer may have started as something God placed in my heart, but it has not been built by my hands alone. Not even close.
Behind every course, video, design, email, certificate, event, partnership and all the quiet work nobody will ever clap for, there are people.
Perhaps leadership matures when you stop looking only at what people do for the vision and begin to recognise what they have given of themselves to carry it.
These three are only three of a whole army.
I see you. I see the things the public will never see. I see the work that carries no applause and the sacrifices that will never make it onto social media.

When history tells the story of what TrainDTrainer became, I hope it never tells it as though one woman built it.
I may have carried the seed, but God sent people to help me build the field.
What a privilege to build with people who believe. ❤️

We expect teachers to prepare everyone for the future, but who is preparing teachers for it?

Doctors are expected to keep learning, Lawyers keep developing, Engineers keep evolving, and Pilots keep training.

Yet teacher development is still too often treated as an occasional workshop rather than a lifelong professional journey, and that should make us pause.

Because every doctor, engineer, scientist, entrepreneur and leader was once taught by a teacher.

If we want better schools, stronger learners and a future-ready Africa, we have to invest in the people shaping that future.

Teachers don't just need more training. They need an ecosystem that continuously develops them.

That is why I built TrainDTrainer, not another place to collect certificates, but an institution for the continuous growth of educators.

Because the people responsible for shaping the future deserve to be developed for it. by @kachyjumbo

For years, one question followed me:

Why do some education systems consistently produce excellence while others struggle, despite reforms, investments, and technology?

The deeper I researched, the clearer something became.

We spend so much time asking what children should learn, but not enough time asking who the educator needs to become.

Because training gives information. Formation shapes identity, character, judgment, and practice, and children don't experience our intentions. They experience who we are.

That realisation changed the direction of my work.

At TrainDTrainer, we are not just interested in training educators. We are committed to contributing to the formation of an education workforce capable of shaping Africa's future.

The future of education demands more than skilled educators. It demands formed educators.

Sometimes, the most valuable lessons challenge our assumptions, stretch our thinking, and remind us there is still more to learn.

Reading is not just about gaining knowledge. It is also an exercise in humility.

I don’t usually share things like this, but I feel so strongly to share this today.
There are a little over 60 boxes here. Every end of term and every Christmas, I get something for the people who have been part of my children’s lives at school. Their teachers, teaching assistants, receptionists, cleaners and others who quietly show up for them every day.

And there is something I really want to say to parents: please don’t think that because you’ve paid the school fees, that’s it.
Yes, you’ve paid the fees. But somebody still had to show up for your child. Somebody taught them, corrected them, encouraged them, noticed them, believed in them and sometimes gave more of themselves than you will ever know.

When our first child finished primary school, we went back and gave something to every teacher who had shaped him from Day 1. Some hadn’t taught him for years, but what they poured into him was still there. I wanted them to know that we remembered.
Please, this isn’t about buying 60 gifts. It could be a card, a message, a phone call or a simple thank you.
Just let teachers know you see them.

Let them know that their work hasn’t become invisible simply because they do it every day. Let them know that you recognise the part they are playing in the life of your child.
I will always advocate for teachers. Always.
And perhaps there is a teacher somewhere who once poured into you too.
Oya, go and say thank you. ❤️

It was about 4 a.m., and I needed to record a video. No tripod, no fancy setup, and the work couldn’t wait. So I turned a basin upside down, put a pot on it, balanced my laptop and got on with it. The pot did not know this was part of its job description. 😂

I wonder how many things we have left undone while waiting for everything to be in place. We say, “Once I get this, I’ll start.” Then we get it, and somehow, there is something else we need before we can begin. I say “we” because I’m talking to myself too.

I understand wanting to do things properly because I care deeply about the quality of what I put into the world, and when you care deeply about your work, it can be difficult to put something out that doesn’t yet look like what you have in mind. But how will we get better at something we keep postponing? Sometimes, we ask our beginnings to look like someone else’s twenty years of work. We become embarrassed by the very stage that gives us the experience we admire in others.

And please, don’t be ashamed of what you have to use to get there. This isn’t about pretending we don’t need the right tools, support or resources. We do. It is about refusing to let what is temporarily missing convince us that we cannot begin at all. A pot and a basin today do not make the work any less valuable. We see what people have built over the years and forget that there was a time when they were also finding their way.

There is room for us to contribute meaningfully to the visions we believe in and still tend to the dreams that have been placed in our own hearts. One should not require the death of the other. I want us to be able to give ourselves meaningfully to the work in front of us without waking up years later and realising that, somewhere along the way, we stopped building ourselves. Your own becoming matters too.

So, can you just start? That morning, I needed something to hold my laptop up so I could do the work. A pot and a basin did the job.

Look again at what you have. What can you do with it today? ❤️

I have heard many teachers also introduce themselves and say, “I’m just a teacher.”

If you are one of those who still introduce themselves as “Just a teacher”, I ask that you please remove the just the next time you introduce yourself.

The surgeon, engineer, entrepreneur, and many founders you see today were taught by a teacher.
The person who will one day make decisions affecting millions of lives is sitting in your classroom.

Teaching may have become familiar to us, but familiar does not mean ordinary. You work with human possibility. You meet people before the titles, before the accomplishments, and before the world knows their names. There is nothing just about that.
You are a teacher. Say it with pride.
