Micah and I get asked all the time if we want kids, and we always laugh and say @magiccity.games is our kid.

After a weekend like this, that feels more true than ever, and I am so proud of what this event has become.

When @luan.n.nguyen, Micah, and I decided to bring the first Masters only CrossFit Semifinal to Birmingham, we knew it was going to take more than just us. We knew we had to trust other people with something we care so deeply about.

What we found was a team that didn’t just “volunteer.” They showed up, took ownership, and cared about this event like it was theirs too. Their attention to detail & commitment to unreasonable hospitality exceeded all expectations.

That is what made this weekend what it was.

To every volunteer, every athlete, and every person who supported this event, thank you. You gave your time, your energy, and your heart; and it showed in every single detail. I am so proud of all of you.

This is a weekend I will truly never forget.

We did it. Over $4,500 donated. 140.6 miles.

& the most difficult thing I have ever done in my entire life.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and shown me support. When the race went south, I thought about everyone who has supported me throughout this journey & it genuinely carried me through.

I have so much to say about my experience & can’t wait to give more details about each discipline of the race, but for now:

You really can do anything you set your mind to, & the human body is capable of doing incredible things.

-I didn’t really know how to swim (or put a swim cap on)
-I had ZERO cycling experience
-I had never worn a wetsuit
-I didn’t own a bike / clip-ins (& I fell multiple times trying to learn) nor did I know how to change gears
-& I had never ran more than 8 miles

All of that inexperience & my biggest barrier was always myself. This wasn’t the outcome I wanted, but I hear that’s what being an Ironman is all about. 🩷
