Channel 4's #GenderWars, aimed at a show rather than tell approach, has humanised but still divided its varied participants. The majority of its trans contributors felt unable to support the final version, I was the exception. Perhaps because I respected and trusted the director @pamelaezra03 and producer Carlo's own humanity. I experienced so much care and check-ins from them, and I know they did that for the others, too. Whether you agree with Kathleen Stock or the Trans voices or are conflicted or confused, I hope you will agree that hate, hurt, and dehumanising anyone are never acceptable and that informed understanding will lead to more hopeful outcomes for all. It was hard to watch the film a third time as I kept spotting bits I wish I'd rephrased, contextualised or caveated, and being on the receiving end of twitter abuse today, I have to remind myself it's worth it.

In my years of trying to find common ground, I've also gained uncommon friends from the religious to Brexiteers, right wing to Gender critical, among these I not only count Linda Bellos, stretching back a dozen years but also Julie Bindel more recently. We don't have to agree, but we do respect and recognise each other's motives and passion. (And in case they see this, the lovely neighbours in no2 aren't bad either!)

Do have a watch of @Channel4's documentary and let me know what you think or join the heated debate on my twitter! But please no personal attacks on anyone

2022 and the Human Library thrived rather than just survived the last 2 years. New offices for its growing 20+ staff and an absolute pleasure to visit and enjoy the new workspace and see a number of Human Books on the wall such as Muffe but also Bisi and myself from the UK. I wonder how we will grow in another 2 years? I've been involved since 2009, first as a Reader, then a Book, then UK staff and now involved in online and in-person events, as well as overseeing methodology, safety and impact of the #UnjudgeSomeone experiences – safe spaces to take a risk, have a curious and courageous conversation without fear of offence, and essentially unbox someone.

Since I am still a Book occasionally, I guess this is more a shelfie than a selfie!

Our next @HumanLibraryUK event is 18 December @NorwichArtsCentre and follow our socials for 2023 news about regular events in London too, plus Midlands, Cambridge, Essex, Scotland, South West and more.

So me and the cats ended up in the paper. "Mad cat person/crazy cat lady". Third most read article, some positive feel good news for a change. Thanks to Sophie for the fun interview, Denise for the fab pics and the Evening News readers for being kind, mostly. If you want to adopt a kitten or older cat check out the local rescue centres or check back in with me. Will add the story link to my linktree in bio.

Book porn at Edinburgh Art & International Book Festival in the Waterstones tent. Spiegel tent was briefly queer dyke heaven and EAF oozed trans positivity. Bumped into Del Lagrace Volcano not once but twice.

Tipperary via @claphamcocktails
60ml Irish whiskey
30ml sweet vermouth
15ml green Chartreuse
2 dashes orange bitters

Variations of 1:1:1, 3:2:1, 6:2:1 exist from the 110yr history

Legend has it that the cocktail was created by bartender Hugo Ensslin at the Hotel Wallick in New York City, where according to lore, a customer walked in humming the famous wartime Tipperary song and the bartender invented the drink on the spot to honour the melody. Perhaps...

Chartereuse was b.1605, 130 herbs, 69% ABV, created by monks 😇🥂
In 1840, they developed a milder version called green Chartreuse and a sweeter version called yellow Chartreuse
The preservation and journey of the secret recipe is enough to rival a Dan Brown novel

A sherry Manhattan or Adonis. Super drinkable and lower ABV. I added a ½ barspoon of Luxardo cherry syrup, used nutty-dry Oloroso, and orange bitters.

I prefer it Vermouth forward but others try equal measures or Sherry forward.

Dating from the mid-late 1880s and the musical on Broadway of the same name it was called "new- fangled" in 1897.

Jacques Straub's Manual of Mixed Drinks, 1913, goes with ⅔ Vermouth ⅓ Sherry, whilst
Albert Stevens Crockett's Old Waldorf Bar Days, 1931, has equal measures.

Masala is 10¼ years young, a half Bengal, and a dirty stop out! She had 7 litters over the years and her kids are all over the UK but now she wanders and returns home every couple of months for a week or so then heads off on adventures or down the road to some kindly home.
