I’m Sarah, I’m K Cycling Coaching.

💡 My approach is different. My strength is helping you develop the tools to be the best athlete you can be. We work in a partnership to give you the framework to realize your potential. This partnership allows athlete and coach to be greater than the sum of our parts. It is irrespective of discipline, age, or experience. I work with riders from all backgrounds and levels of experience, from new riders to pros, and juniors to masters. I work with XC, XCM, enduro, road, gravel, and CX athletes. What matters is that we connect.

🙋‍♀️ My corner of the cycling world is with athletes who are engaged in the process, communicate effectively, and are hungry to learn.

🚵‍♀️ I raced as high as the World Cup level and I use my 15 years of pro racing experience to inform my coaching. If you are targeting an off-road goal event this year, I probably raced it, raced something similar, or coached someone through it.

🤓 I use my racing background, paired with physiology learning, alongside the newest technology and analytics, to dig into your training data to create a framework for the most personalized, customized, and holistic approach that is backed by science.

🤝 Ready for us to get to work? Here is how I work with athletes:
Paid services:
- Private coaching from $260 to $460 per month. My most customized services. Pricing reflects our level of collaboration, analytics, and customization.
- Coaching consultations where we dig into your development on an a la carte basis. $150/hour
- Prewritten training plans through TrainingPeaks. $80-$130
Free services:
- Email list where I usually write once a month on topics not frequently covered.
- Sign up for that email list and receive my PDF, You: At Your Best; Universal Best Practices for Training Plans, 20 pages of distilled coaching guidance. Send me a DM ‘send PDF.’ You will receive a link to subscribe and receive the doc.
- Weekly Instagram AMA videos where I answer your questions anonymously in a public forum. Watch the videos anytime on my YouTube channel.
- Group rides from January through summer race season. by @kcyclingcoaching

Fall leaf rides are in full swing and so is my @parkcitypoint2point race review offer.

That’s a free 30 minute race review meeting to help you unpack your P2P: What went right, what didn’t, and how to do it better. Share your power and/or HR file and we will dig into the data to find out. Don’t have a file? That’s fine too - plenty to discuss without the numbers!
Link in bio to grab a time. I have a special offer for everyone who signs up for this. Debriefs are for new athletes. by @kcyclingcoaching

Preriding! 🤠

Here’s the CliffsNotes:

Course Logistics:
- Is there a preride schedule to be aware of?
- Pit/tech zone location
- Feed zone - speed and traction
- Warm-up venue

Line choice:
- Start/finish
- Initial corners/ pinch points
- Look for traction
- Review finish corners and how to set up a sprint
- Know multiple lines in technical sections
- Watch other riders
- The burned in line may not be the fast line

Equipment/ setup
- Tire choice and pressure
- Gearing
- Bottles versus pack
- Start gearing and start line traction

Course Conditions:
- Conditions can change
- Sun in your eyes
- Wind

Long courses you may not full preride
- Prioritize the start and finish
- See technical cruxes
- Are there sections that can be driven?
- Use videos, power files, or talk to other riders to fill knowledge gap on course.

Pacing and mental map
- Landmarks to orient yourself within the course
- Estimated lap or finish time
- Estimated fueling intervals

Discipline in preride
- Preride is not training, manage intensity
- Don’t race the preride! by @kcyclingcoaching

@parkcitypoint2point is in the rear view. How do you feel about the race? However it went, there is a lot to learn from the day.

Quick air quality note for anyone training locally- AQI is over 100 today from wildfire smoke. This smoke contains PM2.5, fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns - roughly 30 times thinner than a human hair. These particles slip past airway defenses and get deep into the lungs, with potential for serious health consequences, both in the immediate and long term.

Smoke moves with the wind, so the forecast and wind trend give you an idea of when the air will clear up. Current indications suggest the local air could be in this unhealthy range for the next week.

I put together a more full breakdown of how to read AQI and adjust training around it. You can see the article at the first link in my LinkTree. by @kcyclingcoaching

“I never lose. I either win or learn.” -Nelson Madela

✨ I’m not much into motivational quotes but this one nails it. I see the best performers lean into this behavior the hardest. Often the worst performances on paper are our biggest opportunities for growth. But the reflection required isn’t easy.

⚖️ On some level, we have to protect ourselves and our egos. And some things are beyond our control. But blaming outside factors is coating yourself in protection that prevents growth. Find the balance. Get curious about reflection.

🪞This reflection is especially difficult if your identity or worth is connected to the outcome. Remember that this is something you do but it’s not who you are. Use this distance to be more curious as you reflect on performances.

💭 What stories do you tell yourself when things aren’t going well? What is within your control and what isn’t? Can you ground yourself in the effort or do you disengage? Can you be truly curious about what role you played in the outcome?

How do you respond to performances that you find disappointing? by @kcyclingcoaching

🤔 Recently an athlete asked me, ‘What’s the crux of the P2P course?’

🧱 My standard answer has always been: Steps. Steps and the climbs after - Fat Lip to the top of 9K. It’s where riders bleed the most time, it’s where nutrition and hydration mistakes reveal themselves, it’s where you will pay for overpacing the start.

💭 But I got to thinking. I bet there are lots of opinions here and you could spin it a few ways.

For athletes looking to complete @parkcitypoint2point , the PCMR aid station is the crux. Get yourself in and out of there and you can get it done. Sit down for too long or think about how much you are suffering and it’s over. It’s really easy to talk yourself out of the final third at that point.

⁉️What is your crux of the race? by @kcyclingcoaching

You might be working out… but are you training? Here’s why that distinction can make or break your results.

Exercising is not training. Prioritizing exercise while in a training block will ruin your results.
