Us girls 🐶🙋🏼‍♀️ had the house to ourselves for a long weekend, so we got out and reminded ourselves how sparkly/wacky/beautiful/lovely Berlin (mostly our Berlin fam) can actually be 🫶🏻🤼‍♀️☀️🏖️🐾 🍹🍲👯‍♀️

I feel so very grateful for the privilege and opportunity to be able to now hold dual citizenship 🇺🇸🇩🇪

I'm not a patriotic person, so it's not about a nationalist pride, but a thankfulness to be able to continue to stay in the corner of the world where I've found home.
The past (almost) 12yrs has seen me apply for 5 different visas to stay in Germany. Au pair, language learning, freelance, spouse and permanent residency. I didn't/don't have a higher education/degree or special skills (at least not ones that would benefit the German economy 😅) and it wasn't until I'd been here for years that I was "sponsored" by my spouse (though he did always emotionally sponsor me 😘). I never needed an immigration lawyer, and each visa cost less than 100€.
The path to citizenship was fairly smooth and easy enough (a couple tests to prove language and culture/history/political proficiency, and some other standard documents about work/taxes). And now I not only have the privilege to stay indefinitely in Germany, but the entire European Union 🇪🇺

When I think about the difficulty, cost, and crazy long process I've heard that it takes to do this same thing in the US... I just feel so heavy that the ability to call a chosen place home is placed so far out of reach for so many.

I can't personally fix that, but I can (and will) continue to vote for a more free & loving world, on both sides of the pond. And if anyone wants to try your hand over here, we've got guest rooms 😘 by @keatyn.jayne

🍀 ELEVEN 🍀 years since our first date!!

(On the 13th, a little late thanks to work/life/🙃)
We celebrated this year by going out to a concert, one of the many things we bonded over in the beginning, and have enjoyed many'a show together over the years.
This past year has seen a lot of logistics, hard work, family health stuff, and some time apart (because of my work/Joschi being in Portugal, not a break 😉) but our solid foundation as a team and shared goals has kept us going strong 🏋🏼‍♀️
So beyond thankful everyday for the life, home and memories we are building together. And still so in awe of that one little, almost inconsequential, but then life altering moment when we both swiped right ⏭️ 👫💞 taken in Berlin, Germany by @keatyn.jayne

When you get a sunny 48hrs with your long distance, once-in-a-lifetime bestie and it feeds your soul enough to last a year...which is good because that might be how long it is until the next time 😭

So thankful for this magical friendship where somehow we've been side by side (even when living around the world) for over 20 years, but also we're still forever 16 😆🪄👭

💥T E N-freaking-Y E A R S 💥 since our first date!

I literally can not imagine a person I'd rather have by my side this past decade! From making me flashcards for learning German, to proposing in front of the little stone church my great great great grandparents went to. A summer spent living in San Francisco, and another at anchor on our boat. Epic European, South African and American road trips, on 2 and 4 wheels. Our love of tinkering and DIY'ing, balanced by sushi-in-bed-Sundays. A hundred arguments and a hundred and one I'm sorrys. The family hikes that make Leebee so happy, followed by cuddles in the hammock. Now the roots we're putting down on our little mini farm.
