Day 3 | Catalyst Fellowship RetreatBMoreAg classrooms have no walls.At @free.up.farm , we spent the day learning directly from the land with Aubrey and Chef @yannickdominic experiencing what farm-to-table truly means—from harvesting to preparing a meal rooted in culture, nutrition, and regeneration.Through a powerful systems thinking workshop led by @the50percentglobal we explored how lasting change begins by seeing the connections between people, communities, and the ecosystems that sustain us.We also had the privilege of learning from ecological engineer Larry Davis of @green_mechanics , who transformed the farm into a living classroom, showing us how thoughtful design can regenerate landscapes while strengthening communities.Every meal we shared came straight from the regenerative soil beneath our feet—a reminder that healthy ecosystems produce healthy food, healthy people, and resilient communities.This is what regeneration looks like! #CatalystFellowship #CatalystRetreat #RegenerativeAgriculture #SystemsThinking #FarmToTable FoodSovereignty Ubuntu Dominica BMoreAg The50Percent GreenMechanics FreeUpFarm by @kerrinmassarueh

Day 2: The Power of We-ness: Learning from the Kalinago Territory, DominicaThe Catalyst delegates stepped into one of the Caribbean's most important living classrooms: the Kalinago Territory, home to the Indigenous Kalinago people, who are the first inhabitants of Dominica and among the last remaining Indigenous communities in the Eastern Caribbean.Long before conversations around sustainability, climate resilience, and systems thinking entered conference rooms, the Kalinago people were living them.Our day began with an immersive journey through the Territory, guided by local leaders and cultural custodians who shared stories of survival, resistance, stewardship, and identity. We had the privilege of engaging in a powerful dialogue with the Chief Historian, learning how generations of Kalinago people have preserved their culture, language, traditions, and relationship with the natural world despite centuries of colonization and displacement.Together, we learned traditional dances, felt the rhythm of the drums, and experienced firsthand how culture serves as a living archive of knowledge and community.We also visited L'Escalier Tête Chien, one of Dominica's most iconic Kalinago landmarks. Rooted in legend and history, the site reminded us that stories are more than folklore rather, they are systems of knowledge that shape identity, values, and collective memory.Our partners at The 50 Percent, facilitated a deep dive into systems thinking and the concept of "We-ness"—the understanding that lasting change begins when we move beyond individual action and embrace community as the foundation of transformation.This was precisely why the Kalinago Territory was chosen as a cornerstone of the Catalyst experience. Their community demonstrates what many modern systems are struggling to relearn: that prosperity does not require the destruction of nature, that resilience is built through relationships, and that communities thrive when people understand their place within a larger ecosystem. by @kerrinmassarueh

Day 1 of the Catalyst Fellowship Retreat 🌿✨We began the journey grounded in story, vision, and possibility with Mr. Sam Raphael, Founder of Jungle Bay Dominica. Listening to the story of Jungle Bay reminded us that bold dreams rooted in purpose can grow into living ecosystems of impact. Long before eco-tourism became mainstream, there was vision, risk, patience, and deep belief in what was possible for Dominica.From there, we walked into Soufrière for an afternoon with the incredible team at Soufriere Outdoor Center. Through kayaking, laughter, vulnerability, and grounding activities, strangers slowly began becoming a community. Trust was built one paddle stroke at a time.We closed the evening surrounded by sunset skies and the warmth of bubbling seawater, sitting in a circle and sharing pieces of ourselves with honesty and openness. This year’s World Bank Group and IMF Annual Fall Meetings felt like walking into the machinery of the world.Every hallway buzzed with negotiations on climate finance, green economies, debt restructuring, and infrastructure, billion-dollar ideas that shape real lives in the Global South.As a young Pan-African and Small Island citizen, I entered these rooms not to be impressed, but to understand. Because to reconstruct the system, we must first learn its architecture.Everyone I met was looking for something — money, influence, relevance. But youth like us from Africa and the Caribbean are looking for transformation. We are looking for where our voices belong in these global conversations about our present and future.We are not to be silent or afraid to enter rooms not designed for us. Every stranger is a potential partner, every conversation a chance to learn. Speak. Listen.
