WHERE CAN WE GO?

A place to come be.

We are beginning the process of curating and creating an immersive community art exhibition coming to Lansing in spring 2027.

This exhibition begins with a question: Where can we go when we want connection without pressure, somewhere to create, reflect, gather, or simply rest?

I am looking for visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, poets, writers, sound artists, sculptors, installation artists, and experimental creators whose work explores belonging, community, rest, isolation, lost gathering spaces, imagination, or the places we still hope to build.

I welcome existing work, new ideas, and artists interested in creating something specifically for the space. I want artists to help shape this exhibition from the beginning.

To submit, please email:

• Your name and a short artist bio
• Images, samples, or links to your work
• The title and medium of the proposed work
• A brief description of how it connects to the exhibition
• Any anticipated installation or technical needs

Send submissions to fatimak.conveningco@gmail.com by December 1, 2026.

Exact dates, location, and community partners will be announced as the exhibition develops.

Me at the opening night of Communal Effervescence.

For the past several years, I’ve been dreaming about and building @conveningco.studio It started with a simple idea we have all been hearing about: third spaces. Through traveling, building community, and paying attention to the places that made me feel connected; that made others feel connected…. I realized how important it is to have spaces where people can simply exist... Places of beauty, creativity, and belonging that invite us to know one another, see one another, to be with one another.

Over the past few years, alongside my civil rights work, I’ve had the opportunity to support nonprofits, marketing agencies, economic development partnerships, artists, and community organizations. Through that work, I’ve helped build collaborative spaces and learned firsthand about the countless hours, relationships, and coordination required to bring people together in meaningful ways. Communal Effervescence is the first exhibition I’ve curated through Convening Co.

My hope is that one day @conveningco.studio becomes a physical space. A gallery, a gathering place, somewhere you can pop in, say hello, and be in community.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, trusted me, collaborated with me, and encouraged me to keep building.

This is just the beginning.

28 in New York City! Jazz, oysters, and the ballet.
Watched Alvin Ailey’s dancers move like they were made of light. He built a company that helped launch some of the first celebrated Black dancers in ballet and modern dance. Grateful to have witnessed greatness!
