WHERE CAN WE GO?

A place to come be.

We are beginning the process of curating and creating an immersive community art exhibition coming to Lansing in spring 2027.

This exhibition begins with a question: Where can we go when we want connection without pressure, somewhere to create, reflect, gather, or simply rest?

I am looking for visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, poets, writers, sound artists, sculptors, installation artists, and experimental creators whose work explores belonging, community, rest, isolation, lost gathering spaces, imagination, or the places we still hope to build.

I welcome existing work, new ideas, and artists interested in creating something specifically for the space. I want artists to help shape this exhibition from the beginning.

To submit, please email:

• Your name and a short artist bio
• Images, samples, or links to your work
• The title and medium of the proposed work
• A brief description of how it connects to the exhibition
• Any anticipated installation or technical needs

Send submissions to fatimak.conveningco@gmail.com by December 1, 2026.

Exact dates, location, and community partners will be announced as the exhibition develops.

Where do we go from here? Maybe we create the place together.

This past weekend was nothing short of magical. It felt like a pinch-me moment, and it flew by far too quickly! I have always dreamed of becoming a curator, so having my first in-person exhibition means the world to me. I’ve been quietly planning this show for over a year and a half, and seeing everything finally come to fruition is deeply satisfying.

Thank you to every artist in this exhibition who trusted me with their work. The stories told through each painting, installation, fiber work, and sculpture are so meaningful to me, and because every artist creates from the heart, that sincerity is felt throughout the entire show.

Hearing people say they not only loved the work but truly connected with the stories behind it was quiet confirmation of my curatorial approach. Learning that some visitors got teary-eyed while others couldn’t help but smile filled me with so much joy.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 is on view through October 31. I hope you’ll have a chance to come see it, and be sure to grab a little sweet treat on your way out! 🤍🍬

In the last 3 weeks I’ve touched 4 different walls, co-curated a group exhibit for Juneteenth, and met a lot of really interesting characters. I have been fortunate enough to practice my art publicly, and I’m continuing to see myself grow in confidence and technique. I really don’t have some long thought out post for yall today, just some snippets of life as it’s forever moving forward.

Thank you for all the support, thank you for all the love, and man thank you to my hometown (Lansing) and the muthafuckin EastSIDEEEEEEE!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Catch me outsideeeeee….✌🏽

A curator’s and artist work is never done.

Caught in the act of making sure every detail was just right before guests arrived at the opening reception of Communal Effervescence: The Celebration of Black People in Community.

One of the things I’ve loved most about co-curating this exhibition with Mila is how much care she brings to the work, not just the art on the walls, but the experience of everyone who walks through the door.

Art. Community. Collaboration. Attention to detail.

The exhibition is on view through June 22 at REACH Studio Art Center.

Day 2 of installation feels like a lifetime ago, and now Communal Effervescence: The Celebration of Black People in Community is officially open.

What began as conversations, planning meetings, artist calls, studio visits, and installation days became a beautiful opening reception on May 29 filled with community, creativity, and celebration.

Convening Co. is incredibly grateful to be working alongside @reachstudioart, @mindofmila, @ourspace517 , and the talented artists who trusted us with their work. This exhibition is a reminder of what is possible when artists, organizations, and community come together around a shared vision.

The exhibition is now on view through June 22 and open Wednesdays 12 PM to 8 PM. If you have not had a chance to visit yet, there is still time.

We also hope you’ll join us again on June 11 for our next community activation and evening at the gallery.

It’s up. It’s real. And it’s a beautiful reflection of what happens when we create together.
