MUM, I WON AN AWARD 🥉🤣 !!!

How delighted was I to suddenly hear the news that I’d won an award!! Never had I entered one, let alone won one, so when Contemporary Collage Magazine put the word on the street, I was simultaneously amused and joyful 😁

One thing I’ve learnt in this art game is just how much you have to have your own back — not in an arrogant way, but in the sense that if you self-define a path, you have to believe in it and follow through. There are no half measures or NOTHING happens!

So entering was really about honouring, CELEBRATING and documenting the journey - how I got into crafting and coining Contemporary Patternism itself, which actually started with block-colour landscapes.

I won’t go into too much detail here, but what I will say is that people often wonder how abstraction begins. Everyone’s journey is different of course, but for me the greatest visual and spiritual resource has always been nature 🌿

That was the beginning — and here are snippets from my entry!! Socials doesn’t like dimensions! Ey 🤷🏻‍♀️

I honestly can’t wait to see the publication and, beyond that, I cannot wait to continue spreading CONTEMPORARY PATTERNISM — starting with my forthcoming exhibition at CASS ART Hampstead and workshop in June on that very theme. Link in bio to book!

The End Result

And in the words of Joe from 'Friends' - 'c'est tout de la fruit', or the end product.

I could leave things here but'cha know, it just doesn't feel right and/ even slightly anti-climatic in lieu of the momentous occassion.

So here this piece sits, somewhere between floors and office spaces and within this space the sweet delight of walking away and leaving it where it is.

That and it would be rather cumbersome to carry it off at it's 3.3 x 2.7 metres!

And yet, there's something very romantic about being able to dust yourself off (literally) and walk away with no obligation to hold on to your creation, leaving it the hands of whatever conditions it will encounter and whomever he may encounter over time.

A social piece of art without words and yet a talking point minus the creator and a gallery description.

Without a signature, a sort of non descript image which with time no doubt melds into the fabric of the building - forming part of the architecture. A concept of sorts - mine.

A celebration indeed! That's for sure.

Thoughts On Walks: Rants – Should You Have a Dream?

Have you ever had a dream? Of course, you may think—most of us do. Whether it’s an unsurfaced desire or something more evident through a hobby or even, as is so fashionable these days, a ‘side hustle’!

Yet I find the most irritating of all versions to be the ‘held desire’. And what I mean by this is the “I have dreamt of doing this for ‘x’ amount of years” or “this is something I’d love to do when the kids go to uni or I retire”, etc. Yada yada, blah blah blah.

Because… what I’ve learnt from experience is that a held desire does not provide any concrete evidence that you will even find fulfilment once you get to that stage where it ‘could’ actually become actionable.

Let’s take the arts as an example of this—that thing to which one automatically feels they have access because, well, it’s in your face. We often hear someone say they dreamt of being a singer. O.K., I’m a little guilty of this one too.

But where do you draw the line between aspiration and actually giving the goddam thing a TRY, or a trial run, i.e. a short course? Yes, you have time, don’t lie. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

You will never find yourself at the top of Mount Everest if you haven’t even taken a practical step in the first instance.

So, this happened to me some years back: I never had the chance to develop my voice when I was a kid, and then I spent some years working on it recently, eventually finding myself on a stage, only to find that I didn’t care much for it anymore. Which is ironic, as it was something I’d envisioned since I was six.

Besides the point, singing is actually a craft, and there is a huge amount of time, technique, practice and dedication required to develop it. Something not to take for granted.

So, should you have a dream? By all means. But don’t short-change yourself by dreaming into an abyss, because everything is the culmination of short, actionable steps and practice, and you wouldn’t want to wake up one day realising the dream is dead.

Thoughts On Walks: Transitions

When did it happen? Did I change? Where along the line did words take the place of visuals, and could they ever? Perhaps a question does not really exist in this instance. Perhaps I just transitioned along the line where I’d been floating since. And perhaps, more importantly, there’s a space for it all.

For the longest while, I thought I needed to embody a medium, and the search to claim one led me down a rabbit hole of misery. Trying to pigeonhole (excuse the metaphors) my practice, trialling and testing Contemporary Patternism across painting, screenprinting, digital media and more had conceptual relevance. I wanted the colours to pop in the best sort of way, and yes, I found this vision through textiles. But choosing a particular medium? That was a painful journey.

Then somewhere along the line, I gave up the ghost, and I chose not to choose. And within the choice came what has become closest to me all along — words, and whichever vessel they move through.

You see, I noticed a while ago that the very creation of an object can lead to a trap — the trap of regurgitating the emotion that led to it. But the reverse is true with words, depending on the style of writing, of course. The moment flows through and once it’s down, it’s done, released and gone! ✅

But another peculiar thing about writing is that people will read and interpret what you write differently. That can be very interesting and also quite sad, as an observer or sometimes a friend. The access between us is never equal, and that becomes something to sit with and contemplate.

You may know me somehow, but I don’t know you, and that’s profoundly interesting when we meet! So, I meet you in closeness in the ethers, and you meet me with yours in reality.

The People & The Art: Meet Vitrue Health

How can it be 4 years ago that I painted this beautifully vibrant background at @camdencollective in well, the workspace at Camden Collective in Camden?!

I’d totally forgotten about this when I stumbled upon this beautiful video where @vitruehealth had used my mural as a backdrop, so naturally and with much delight I thought I must share because art really does have the ability to be transformative in the right spaces but also those that need a little TLC.

And for those that are curious: @vitruehealth is AI powered workplace focused on ergonomic assessments and preventing musculoskeletal (MSK) pain, serving companies across London and globally!

Thank you for choosing my work as a backdrop for your video and of course to @camdencollective for housing my mural, a brilliant collaborative coworking space in the heart of London.

@kikapierides came to the event for “Soulla and kouba” she told me and we laughed so much at that! “Using my walks as inspiration, I create vibrant, colourful abstract art resembling patterns, turning what I feel into collages, paintings and textiles for fashion and interiors. I also license my work… I’ve started filming conversations inspired by a question or topic that feels relevant to me at the time.”

@yonascrisps were pitched up next to me and we hit it off straight away! If you are a liver of crisps you just have to try these! “Yona’s happened by accident. Whilst running The Greek Indian, Dilan and Andrew realised their Cypriot potato oregano and chilli fries were flying! In that moment, they knew they had something truly special… Yona’s Crisps were born! Every batch is truly handmade, using only the best Cypriot potatoes. Made for the Village. By the Village.”

@mariannaphilippoucoach and I have a background in secondary education and we have both used those teaching and leadership skills to build our businesses. A warm, friendly woman whose eyes sparkled as she talked about her leadership business for women with me! “Reconnect with yourself and lead with intuition. Here is a place where ambition meets empathy. My Core Values: Empathy, Integrity, Bravery, Authenticity, Boundaries.”

I am so proud to be one of 52 artists who contributed to 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣, a new coffee table book from @aspacebetween.co.uk 🤍

A Space Between is an art-for-health charity that has been bringing free creative workshops and invitations to make art into UK hospitals for seven years. One of their programmes involves donating an activity book to hospital patients and staff each month. We made one together in 2025, when I was their Summer Artist in Residence.

Thoughts On Walks: Returns to London — It’s a World

What a gloriously beautiful sunny day to be alive in the capital yesterday.

A true reminder that although we may be experiencing the ebb and flow between summer and autumnal seasons, it’s as good a time as any to step back, gather our thoughts, and prepare for what’s next.

And whilst I can’t say that I’ve made time to do this recently, I took extra joy in paving the way because, to be quite frank, time has become quite sparse for me recently — in the best way possible!

Because with the summer came the marriage of a lifetime of a thread of thoughts culminating IN A WORLD — my artist’s world.

And so, for me, there are simply not enough hours in the day to do and achieve all I want to these days.

And yet, if you’ve read this far, I’d like to welcome you into this world I have long been working on creating.

Much like Rome was not built in a day, neither were the bones of my new website, based on projects that have been festering on over many years!

Let’s just say, I have been a busy bee working on this in my spare time during the latter part of the summer! 🐝

This world is as much mine as it will be yours.

So welcome to being more involved in the art.

It’s not just a store front, it’s a collaboration.

Thoughts On Walks: Cyprus - I am 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟

A trip to Cyprus can often signify one thing: weight gained. And I can tell you for a fact that I am 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟, because whilst the weight gained may appear physical, the substance is worth its weight in GOLD!
⠀
Because a trip to Cyprus is so much more than what is being consumed and more about the company it is being consumed in! And whilst food can be central to this, 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘 is a plenty! And I am full of 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘!!!

Finally, after arriving on the 31st August in Cyprus and originally walking along Finikoudes beach, pitching my project with a loose list and a starting point, I followed the way and ended up with 22 amazing, unique conversations around the topic of ‘𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺’!

I cannot even begin to express my journey, as it has been unlike any other journey I’ve ever undertaken in Cyprus! I am 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟! So full, that I know it will take some time to unpack!

Unpack everything that occurred on the way, meeting, connecting, sharing in — the authenticity, the generosity, the beauty but most importantly the TRUST — all 22 of you!!!
