✨🎨 A very special afternoon at Cyprus House 🎨✨

Although organised at the very last minute, we were deeply moved to see so many artists, members of the diaspora and friends of Cyprus joining us for our latest Artist-Led Curated Tour of THERE IS AN ISLAND III 🇨🇾🌊

It became a truly creative afternoon - full of conversations, reflections and beautiful moments of connection.

One of the most inspiring things to witness was the common ground shared between artists working in Cyprus and artists who, in most cases, were born and raised in the UK. Different journeys, different experiences, yet so many shared emotions, memories and questions. As the Deputy Minister of Culture herself noted, the dialogue between these artistic voices felt natural, honest and deeply meaningful 🤍

Over the past months, THERE IS AN ISLAND III has grown into far more than an exhibition. It became a living space of encounter - where artists and audiences met through stories of identity, memory, everyday life and belonging 🌍

A huge thank you to all participating artists and to everyone who supported the exhibition throughout this journey. You made THERE IS AN ISLAND III one of the greatest successes of our cultural season ✨

🖼️ One final Artist-Led Curated Tour remains before the exhibition comes down:

📅 Thursday 18 June 2026
🕕 6:00pm
🎤 Followed by the Cyprus event of the European Poetry Festival at 7:00pm

We hope to see you there for one final evening together.

✨🌊 What happened on 24 March… 🌊✨

We had one of those evenings you don’t really plan, but you feel.

Our artist-led tour of
THERE IS AN ISLAND III brought together artists, students from Royal Holloway, members of the diaspora and friends of Cyprus… and something just clicked 🤍

🎨 Artists shared their work openly
💬 Conversations flowed naturally
🌉 Connections started forming: between people, between ideas, between stories

At some point, it stopped being a “tour”.
It became something much more real.

That’s what this exhibition is about.

And we’re not stopping there…

📅 26 April, 1pm
📷 With @alexisandreou
An evening on photography, storytelling and memory

📅 13 May
🎧 Voices of Home – @roottovinepod
📖 Viper in My Grave – @antonissideras

Two very different works, both deeply connected to Cyprus, identity and lived experience.

✨ THERE IS AN ISLAND III keeps growing.
Come back. Bring someone new. Stay with us.

Before I studied art.
Before I studied music.
I loved number search puzzles.

Finding patterns in what looked abstract.
Scanning. Recognising. Ordering.

Years later, that same instinct led me to devise systems - grids, measurements, relationships - for translating visual information into sound.

These are pages from two collaborations, where structure became the bridge between disciplines.

It is technical and it requires sustained concentration.
It demands comparison, precision, and decision-making.

But it also feels deeply natural to me.

Drawing Music is built on systems - and some systems begin in childhood.

What early fascinations still shape the way you think today?

✨ THERE IS AN ISLAND III — OFFICIAL OPENING ✨

We are delighted to invite you to the official opening of THERE IS AN ISLAND III, a landmark exhibition celebrating Cyprus as a living cultural bridge — between Europe and the Middle East, memory and contemporary life, women’s voices and everyday experience.

Bringing together 18 British Cypriot artists, the exhibition unfolds as a collective narrative of identity, belonging, displacement, resilience, and connection. Through diverse media and personal perspectives, these artists reflect Cyprus not only as a place, but as an idea — one that continues to travel, transform, and inspire.

📍 Cyprus House, London
🗓 Wednesday 28 January 2026
🚪 Doors open: 6:00pm
🗣 Speeches: 7:00pm
🥂 Event concludes: 8:30pm

We are honoured to present the work of:

Mustafa Afsaroglu • Alev Adil • Alexis Andreou • Theo P. Brooks • Marina Emphietzi • Ioanna Georgiou • Enver Gursev • Mehmet Hassan • Hamit Uçok • Katerina Joannou • Irini Kattou • Mikaela Mousicos • Kika Pierides • Arabella Ross • Maria Sophia Christodoulou • Mary Spence • Mary Spyrou • Arabella Thompson • Gültekin Uzuner

The artists will be present throughout the evening, offering their own reflections and interpretations of their work, inviting audiences into conversation and exchange.

✨ THERE IS AN ISLAND III is part of our wider cultural programme celebrating Cyprus’s role as a bridge — geographically, historically, and creatively — and a platform for voices shaping Cypriot culture in the UK today.

📅 Curated lunchtime tours will follow in February and March 2026. Check our site for more information.
