NEW Southeast Asian cafe and bakery in the East Bay! After closing her restaurant in Walnut Creek, Chef Nora Haron found the perfect location that combines her love of food and art. Kopi Bar & Bakery is the hidden gem of downtown Berkeley, tucked away on the second floor of BAMPFA. The light-filled airy space is the perfect serene escape from the bustle of downtown. Chef Nora’s brunch, lunch, and pastries draw from her Indonesian heritage, but also from her upbringing in Singapore. I cannot recommend Kopi Bar’s Seafood Laksa (the turmeric broth is so good) and Plant Protein Bowl with poached egg (so light and refreshing) enough. As for her made in-house pastries, you have to try her signature Pandan Coconut Swirl. Then there’s the incredible list of drinks. My recommendations are the thick Kopi Avocado and Pandan Chendol Latte. And be sure to try the new limited-time “Pink Trash” drink with passionfruit puree and coconut beet cold foam, which was crafted in honor of BAMPFA’s current exhibit by Maren Hassinger.
