Kourtney Royโ€™s practice is rooted in staging and artifice: carefully chosen locations, saturated colour palettes and deliberate compositions create uncanny worlds. Motels, deserts, suburban interiors, highways, and liminal spaces recur throughout her work, spaces where time seems elastic and reality disturbingly off-kilter. ๐š๐ข๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐š๐ฉ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข is on view at the Gallery ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ฅ ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ญ๐ก. Kourtney Royโ€™s ๐…๐š๐ข๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐š๐ฉ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข is on view at the international photography festival @cortonaonthemove ~ until Nov. 1st, 2026 ๐Ÿ”ฅ Our heartfelt thanks to the artistic director Renata Ferri and to Veronica Nicolardi, Director of Cortona On The Move, for welcoming Kourtney Royโ€™s project into this yearโ€™s festival and for choosing one of its images as the visual identity of the 2026 edition. A special thank you also to Daria Scolamacchia, Mika Poloni, Chiara Capodici of Leporello photobooks, who manages the festival bookshop, to the entire Cortona On The Move team and volunteers and finally, to everyone who joined Kourtneyโ€™s guided tour. We spent some wonderful days together at the festival opening ๐ŸŒ‹ - Kourtney Roy developed this project in 2025, during an artist residency at the Spot home gallery in Napoli. Relying on self-portraiture, the photographer stages herself, becoming the eccentric protagonist of stories whose plots are left to our imagination. In each shot, Kourtney Roy becomes an exaggerated figure, forced out of context, capable of creating a rupture with the city. Her doubles emerge from the spaces through friction, giving shape to identities that are both strong and vulnerable. Napoli is alive even when it is shown to us deserted. - #KourtneyRoy #FailedPostcardsFromNapoli #SpotHomeGallery #CortonaOnTheMove taken in Cortona On The Move by @kourtneyroy

A workshop to explain the inner workings of my lizard brain! Infos to sign up somewhere below! Workshop on July 25th, 2026 ! โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-DONโ€™T MISS OUT โ€” Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues, features a special Saturday event in July with Canadian artist Kourtney Roy, whose work explores improvisation, performance, and the transformation of everyday environments into cinematic, fictional scenes. Working across photography, cinema, and performance, Kourtney builds staged realities that sit between humor and unease, fiction and autobiography. In this artist talk, she introduces her method of the โ€œorchestrated accident,โ€ a way of working that embraces spontaneity and chance within a loose framework, allowing images to emerge through direct response to place using props, costumes, and self-performance. She shares a selection of projects, moving through them in a loose chronological order and speaking about how the work is made on the ground, including scene construction, and how chance and decision-making shape each image. The program concludes as Kourtney engages in a live Q&A with the webinar audience. For those unable to attend live, a recording is available to all registered participants.
