LA gets hot and suddenly all I want is ceviche, robata, and something bright & citrusy. ☀️🍋

So naturally, we ended up back at @thehummingbird.la in Echo Park — one of our favorite Nikkei spots.

This time, there were a few new favorites:
✨ Robata Black Cod with sweet miso
🔥 Amazonian Short Rib Juane — the surprise of the night
🍋 Mixto Ceviche
🍣 Cured Salmon Hand Roll + passion fruit

That short rib though… definitely the dish I’d come back for.

New dishes, familiar favorites, another Hummingbird night. 💛🐦

Sometimes a restaurant surprises you long before the main course arrives. @zarapecocinacantina

For us, it started with the cocktails, the warm hospitality, and the beautiful indoor-outdoor space in Belmont Shore.

Then the food arrived.

Zarapé brings a unique “Mexi-Medi” concept to Long Beach, blending authentic regional Mexican flavors with Mediterranean influences—all from a 100% scratch kitchen using fresh, farm-to-table ingredients.

Our favorites from the evening:

🥑 Fresh Guacamole & Chips

🌮 Mini Taco Platter featuring eight regional Mexican flavors

🐙 Perfectly Charred Octopus

🍗 Chicken Mole Poblano—rich, silky, and one of the best moles we’ve had

🥘 Mexican Seafood Paella

And then…

✨ The Churros.

Crispy, light, served warm with ice cream, and honestly one of the best churros we’ve had in Los Angeles.

If you’re looking for a beautiful date-night spot, happy hour, or a new place to experience elevated Mexican cuisine in Long Beach, Zarapé is absolutely worth adding to your list.

Zarape Concina & Cantina is a mexi-medi fusion spot in Belmont Shore where the Rubio used to be, they serve up some pretty delicious dishes and solid cocktails, they have their own line of tequila so you can really taste the quality in their drinks, and their food is top notch because they’re a 100% scratch kitchen everything is made fresh to order

I was really impressed with their tasting menu it included chicken mole taco, ceviche, mussel, seafood paella, and lamb chop and their mexi-medi cocktail was so refreshingly dangerous

This spot is pretty cool for a nice meal with drinks, come check them out if you’re in the area it’s def worth it they’re open from 10am-10pm daily by @krprinc
