My heart is full!

15/02/2026 was officially the best, and happiest day of my life when I got the privilege of Marrying the most special person in existence @smurfbrains.

Saw this @tobines clip a while back of him playing over Baianá by @archives.nia and thought it would be fun to try! I defo cheated a bit though and used @olliewoodsdrums’ transcription to make my life easier in learning it.

I do wish I spent a bit more time on the tuning of the snares on this one, and played around a bit with mic placement to make elements pop out more, but pretty happy with the actual playing of it.

Heading up to Manchester tomorrow to play at The @starandgarter with @devastjohn supporting @electric_eel_shock_aki and @shapeofwatermusic.

Doors are at 7:00, and we’re on at 7:30, followed by Shape Of Water at 8:15, and Electric Eel Shock at 9:00.

Turning the Snare Wires off on the @officialtamadrums @tamauk S.L.P. Maple 16” x 4” Snare Drum certainly makes for an interesting sound.

It hasn’t quite translated across here, but in the room it very much sounds like the @simmonsdrums pad sound you hear at the start of @vanhalen’s track ‘Hot For Teacher, which was the initial inspiration behind this random improv jam (well it started improvised anyway before I liked what I was doing and tried to piece ideas together).

This drum is so much fun!

Having a bit of a play with my @officialtamadrums @tamauk S.L.P. Maple 16” x 4”, and this thing slaps! Especially with the @remopercussion @remo_gewadrums Clear SMT Ambassador on it.

It is quite the squeeze though having this as a main snare though I must say.

Side note, having a play with the Remo Ebony Pinstripes on my Toms for the Batter Heads, with Remo Ebony Ambassador for the Resonant Heads, which has been fun.

This snare drum is an absolute beast, and one that if I had to ever thin down my collection, this would never leave! I’ve had this one a while but I’ve just changed heads from the original Evans Emad it had on it.

This is the @officialtamadrums @tamauk S.L.P. Maple 16” x 4” Pancake Gong Snare Drum, and it is an absolute monster. I’ve now put a @remopercussion @remo_gewadrums SMT Ambassador Clear head on it as this is the closest match to the original head it had on it, then I’ve used a Tune-Bot to get it to the original pitch it was designed to be at with it’s original head.

I bought this snare on a bit of a whim as I knew I wanted a 16” snare drum. Tama did originally release a 16” x 10” Limited Edition S.L.P. Duo Snare which was the original before the 14” x 8” which I missed out on, so as soon as they dropped this limited edition I got it straight away without listening to it. I am so glad I did as it is by far one of my favourites now. by @kurtphillipsdrums

NELL DAVIES - THE END OF THE WORLD OR WHATEVER
Released on 2nd May 2025 (Self Release on CD, and Digitally)

This was quite a funny one as I wasn’t even aware I was on the EP until it was released. I had done a rehearsal session with @nell_davies_music when she first started looking at playing with people to form a band. I really enjoyed the songs and how tongue in cheek they were lyrically, while still keeping a nice melodic hook throughout.

I then didn’t hear anything for a year or so until Nell reached out to track some Drum Demo’s for her which I did at my Studio. Then next thing I knew, my Demo drums for ‘Never Ever Ever’ had turned into a full song on the EP.

The rest of the drums on this EP were provided by the awesome @jackbeddismusic and I believe recorded by the equally awesome @owain.jenkins at @studiowz.

RUNESCAPE - BATTLEAXES AND BALLADS
Released on 21st June 2024 (by Laced Records (UK), Jagex Audio Team (UK), and Regen Audio (UK) on 12” Red Vinyl, and Digitally)

This was quite possibly one of the funnest records I’ve had the privilege of working on (so a massive thank you for @mykeldunn from @regenaudio for the call on this one)!

This was a 10 track album of tracks from the @oldschool.runescape game turned into Metal Versions, which actually fit so well. Me and Myke recorded the drums for this at my home studio, which was really fun to do. The album also features work from chums @hillshoptrip, @lukeboothozade, and @mattnorriewillams, with @tmhillyy mixing it at @thebookhousestudio, and Dan Coutant at @srmastering mastering it.

This really turned out amazing, and I can’t lie I would absolutely love @runescpe and @lacedrecords to do another one of these some day (fingers crossed).

I couldn’t not put a half-time breakdown in this!

This is another favourite section from my How NOT To Play (But It Is Fun) version of ‘Shake It Off’ by @taylorswift.

This definitely feels like it fits more than the Paradiddle Groove meets 3:2 Left Foot Son Clave from my previous video, but equally as silly in context of the song. Enjoy!
