The COAST Exhibition is on view inside LBIF's Gallery from July 18 - August 16. With over 70 works of art installed and juried by Michelle Donnelly, curator and art historian at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, we are delighted to share each artists' work and statement. Image 1: Ben Goldman - Departure, oil on canvas, 30”x20”, $2950My work explores the coast as both a physical environment and a psychological space. Rather than depicting the shoreline as postcard scenery, I approach it as a site of transition, vulnerability, memory, and human encounter with natural forces.Image 2: Judith Hummer - Hey Mom, Can I Have a Hermit Crab?, watercolor, 16”x20”, $2500Image 3: Judith Hummer - Goin’ Out For Blues, watercolor on gessoed paper, 21”x15”, $2500My work references the sights and sounds of summer down the shore. I hope to convey simple pleasures while on vacation, such as chartering a boat for bluefishing or walking along the boardwalk.LBIF’s Arts Programming is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Ocean County, New Jersey and The Ocean County Board of Commissioners, and New Jersey Cultural Trust.@southjerseyculturalalliance by @lbif

I aim to present accessible, often disregarded, natural beauty.Image 2: Kenneth Hess - After the Storm - photography, 16”x22”, $265In my practice, I try to find abstract imagery in mundane or overlooked subjects that manipulate the viewer’s perception of space. I particularly enjoy capturing light, patterns, shadows, textures, and reflections.Image 3: Ron Garofalo - The Wave - Sunset Looking East, photography, 28”x22”, $1,800My inspiration comes from nature, spiritually re-imagined before man’s intervention. I see the beauty of Earth and hope to share my visions of these moments in time and space with viewers.LBIF’s Arts Programming is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Ocean County, New Jersey and The Ocean County Board of Commissioners, and New Jersey Cultural Trust.@southjerseyculturalalliance by @lbif

Through my lens, I look for quieter stories like the geometry of dunes against the winter sky and ghost traces of footprints erased by the waves.LBIF’s Arts Programming is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Ocean County, New Jersey and The Ocean County Board of Commissioners, and New Jersey Cultural Trust.@southjerseyculturalalliance by @lbif

Sometimes it’s in those moments, that I try to capture in my work, where magic happens.Image 2: Ken Hess - Air Show Over Wildwood - photography, 16”x22”, $265 In my practice, I try to find abstract imagery in mundane or overlooked subjects that manipulate the viewer’s perception of space. My work aims to preserve fleeting, unvarnished moments that reflect the true spirit and enduring character of New Jersey's coastal populations.LBIF’s Arts Programming is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Ocean County, New Jersey and The Ocean County Board of Commissioners, and New Jersey Cultural Trust.@southjerseyculturalalliance by @lbif

Each artwork is an exploration into atmosphere, memory, meditation, and strength.Image 2: Peter Dant - Shades of Blue - giclee print of digital drone photograph, 15”x20”, $695Image 3: Peter Dant - Tranquil Tides in Water - giclee print of digital drone photograph, 14”x20”, $695I aim to portray disregarded beauty of the natural and man-made worlds. By using slow-shutter photography at coastlines, I explore themes of memory, loss, impermanence, and return. Image 2: Rachel Alban - Holding Spaces: Convention Hall, Asbury Park - archival photo print, 15.9”x21.9”, $450 Image 3: Rachel Alban - Holding Spaces: Sunset Pavilion, Asbury Park - archival photo print, 15.9”x21.9”, $450Shooting from the water, I have a unique perspective on Asbury Park and its environment. Here, I examine how photography bears witness to urban transformation and this beloved site’s vulnerability to demolition, overdevelopment, and sea level rise.LBIF’s Arts Programming is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Ocean County, New Jersey and The Ocean County Board of Commissioners, and New Jersey Cultural Trust.@southjerseyculturalalliance by @lbif

In my work, I elevate coastal imagery by layering photography to capture the textured spirit of the Jersey Shore.Image 2: Yusane Geist-Gorman - Foraged driftwood Roots from Island Beach State Park - bornsilicate glass, 45”x35”x9”, $3500 My signature glass “ghost plants” mimic New Jersey’s endemic flora. Considering climate change and rising sea levels, my work emphasizes vulnerability, ephemerality, and human responsibility.Image 3: Cheryl Patton Wu - Sometimes We’re Interrupted (Triptych) - fiber & fabric, 8”x26”x1.5”, $900I create textile art that transforms secrecy into release, tension into connection, and silence into presence.
