10 October is World Day Against The Death Penalty.

So we asked some kids about what they think about the death penalty.

Children are the moral compass of our society.

They also bear the consequences of our choices.

If they know to reject killing, shouldn’t we too?

Here's what's in store at Unlearning the Death Penalty: Ending the War on the Poor on 10th October, 3-5pm.

The speakers will unpack how the death penalty and other cruel punishments serve as a distraction from truly addressing social concerns like poverty, violence against women, and harmful drug use, and how we can *actually* build a safer, more equal society. We will end the event with a candlelight vigil honouring the lives lost to the gallows since 2020, and pay tribute to the prisoners who've fought for truth and justice from behind bars. Swipe through for the full lineup and programme.

Join 200 others in our grief, rage and protest against state violence.

Date: Saturday, 10th October
Time: 3-5pm
Venue: Redrum @ Filmhouse, Golden Mile Tower, 6001 Beach Rd

Come play Activist Bingo with us! Can you spot anyone familiar? 🔎

As more and more activists are getting charged, let us remember who we're fighting for — the lives who have been cruelly taken by the state. Come join us on 10th October at World Day Against the Death Penalty, where we'll hold an indoor candlelight vigil, and protest against the recent prosecution of activists for acts of mourning.

From 7 to 9 October, show up in solidarity at Koki's POFMA trial. Court 24A, 1 Havelock Square, 9am-5.30pm

On those same days, come by to Hong Lim Park in the evening for recaps of the trial, as well as lectures on POFMA, 6-8pm.

See you there!

The police are charging multiple activists for lighting candles to honour people hanged by the state, taking a photo outside court, and flying kites to honour martyred Palestinians.

In the days to come, we expect mainstream media to attempt to assassinate the characters of these activists as "anti-Singapore". You deserve the truth. Hear from the activists themselves about their charges and what motivated them, despite knowing the risks activists face in Singapore.

If you are outraged by this and want to show up in solidarity, join us tomorrow at 10am, State Courts to attend the trial of 7 activists.

Then, come down to World Day Against The Death Penalty on 10 Oct, 3pm-5pm at Filmhouse for a day of reflection and learning.

Koki ( @learningfromthemargins ) from the Transformative Justice Collective ( @transformjustice.sg ) interviews Kumarr ( @kumarrnotcow ), a labour organiser from Workers Make Possible ( @workersmakepossible ) who was charged for participating in an anti-death penalty vigil. He explains why the death penalty is also a labour issue.

The majority of those who are facing similar charges as Kumarr's, in relation to the photo and the vigils, will have their first court hearing on 28 September at 10am, State Courts 4B. Join us in solidarity on that day to support them! ✊✊

And if you are shocked, enraged, or troubled in the least by this, join us at World Day Against the Death Penalty on 10 October, at 3pm, at Filmhouse, where we hold an indoor vigil to remember all the people we have lost to the gallows, and protest against the prosecution of mourning.

In the last week, over 20 people have been called up by the police, most in relation to vigils they participated in for death row prisoners, dating as far back as 2022.

Some of them were called for a photo they took outside the state courts with Jolovan Wham on 3 Feb 2025, when he was served five charges in relation to the vigils.

Several people have been served with warnings by the police, while others have been charged.

The majority of those who are facing charges in relation to the photo and the vigils will have their first court hearing on 28 September at 10am, State Courts 4B.

If you are shocked, enraged, or troubled in the least by this, join us in court on 28 September, and at World Day Against the Death Penalty on 10 October, at 3pm, at Filmhouse, where we hold an indoor vigil to remember all the people we have lost to the gallows, and protest against the prosecution of mourning.

Looking for reasons to attend our World Day Against the Death Penalty events this year? Here are a couple:

1️⃣ Because the state is killing more of our brothers and sisters. 19 people have been hanged so far this year—the highest since 2003.
2️⃣ Because prisoners on death row are being stripped of every means of fighting for their lives. Some are even forced to represent themselves from inside a cell.
3️⃣ Because mourning has become a crime. Flying kites, delivering letters, and lighting candles are not the real dangers we should fear.
4️⃣ Because our freedom of expression, assembly, and information are being eroded even further. POFMA, MRHA—the list goes on.

The state is counting on us to believe that nothing we do matters, that this movement can be easily crushed, that you are alone.

Together, we must show that we are many, and that we will not stop fighting for the abolition of the death penalty and an end to state violence.

See you in the field of action on 10 Oct ✊🏽

The timing is uncanny: Koki (@learningfromthemargins) from @transformjustice.sg stands trial for defying a POFMA order the very same week we mark World Day Against the Death Penalty 2026.

The same state that weaponises the law to silence us is the same state that murders people from the poorest segments of society, and punishes those who mourn them.

That's why we need YOU 🫵 to show up with us from 7-10 October.

Here's what's coming up:
1️⃣ 7–9 October, 6-8pm: Picnic Against POFMA @ Hong Lim Park
Attend Koki's trial in solidarity, then meet us at Hong Lim Park each evening for food, music, and a conversation about how POFMA is eroding our freedom of expression, assembly and information—and what we can do about it.

2️⃣ 10 October, 3-5pm: Vigil @ Filmhouse
Join us for Unlearning the Death Penalty: Ending the War on the Poor, an indoor candlelight vigil to commemorate World Day Against the Death Penalty, and to protest against the state prosecuting activists for holding vigils and other acts of mourning. Expect speeches, memorials, and tributes to the prisoners who've fought this fight from behind bars.

More info on speakers to follow. Watch this space! Slide 1. A red poster with the title World Day Against the Death Penalty, 7 to 10 October 2026. It features graphics from top-to-bottom, clockwise, of a security camera, a kite of the Palestinian flag with the words Free Palestine on it, a hand holding a candlelight in mourning being handcuffed, and a hand holding a pencil in handcuffs too. The subtitle reads "We greive. We persist. We build hope." by @learningfromthemargins

‼️MAKE IZWAN'S STORY GO VIRAL #TRUTHDECAY ‼️

Most death penalty cases end once the appeal is concluded. But for Izwan, after 8 long years of legal proceedings, serious problems were only starting to emerge.

This is his story.

Repost and make Izwan's story go viral with the hashtag #TRUTHDECAY

300 of us showed up at State Court yesterday, in solidarity with the 6 people charged — for lighting candles for death row inmates, and for flying kites for martyred Palestinian children.

Hear from those who attended.

A huge thank you to everyone for taking the time to show up, for choosing to stand up for what's right. Power to our brave activists ✊️

Watch this space to keep updated on their case, and for the next hearing dates!

‼️ WE STRONGLY CONDEMN THE SINGAPORE STATE’S PROSECUTION OF ACTIVISTS INVOLVED IN THE PRO-PALESTINE AND ANTI-DEATH PENALTY MOVEMENTS ‼️

It is the latest escalation in the state’s sustained suppression of civil liberties.
