Can clay plaster be used in bathrooms? Yes—as long as it doesn't come into direct contact with water.

While omitted from splash zones like showers, Léém clay plaster is ideal for surrounding bathroom walls. Its high vapor permeability actively regulates humidity, absorbing excess moisture to prevent condensation, mold, and cold surface temperatures before releasing it back into the room.

Functional climate control through natural materials.

Mindful material reuse meets natural earth finishes in the Onafhankelijkheid project in Koekelberg.

By dismantling the former rear extensions, salvaged bricks, marble, and timber were repurposed directly on site. To complete the interior, the walls were finished with our Léém clay plaster red, made from excavated Brussels earth. This adds a warm texture that sits alongside the vibrant blue of the original staircase. by @leem.works

What if materials could tell their own stories?

With In Materia, @elizabeth_leriche invites us to look beyond the object and rediscover the expressive power of matter itself.

Textures, colours, irregularities and traces of transformation reveal materials as something alive shaped by nature, time and the human hand.

This exploration takes shape with the contribution of @leem.works, which transforms locally sourced excavated earth into clay plasters and paints, and @mariusaurenti, whose finishes explore the depth, texture and expressive power of colour.

Through unique pieces and limited editions created by fine craft workshops part of @ateliersdart, In Materia celebrates exceptional savoir-faire and a more sensitive relationship between material, maker and object.

Look closer. The material has something to say.
