Am I too much? What that usually means is: it didn’t make space for my comfort.
When Tongues Untied (1989) aired in 1991, the reaction wasn’t really about sex or language. It was about specificity Black gay men speaking honestly, without translating themselves. That anxiety still shows up every time something culturally specific hits the mainstream. Are we surprised? Not really.
Anyway. This film still matters. taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @leothemanlion

I’ll always care about the Oscars because I’m a sissy that loves movies, but I’ll always read them critically.

This year’s nominations are less about discovery and more about reassurance. taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @leothemanlion

If you’re still in the mood to celebrate pride and Atlanta, I invite you to take a look at the first documentary Heather Provoncha and I completed called, “Queer Moxie“. It is a celebration of the tapestry of Queer, performers and performance in this city and the surrounding south featuring burlesque performers, drag kings & queens, comedians, spoken word artists, photographers, etc... It features a lot of amazing interviews with amazing people, some who have passed on, leaving a brilliant legacy. It’s currently available on Amazon Prime (link***in***bio***💦) if you do watch it, please leave us a review. Thank you, and I hope everyone had a splendid Pride celebration! 🫦 taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @leothemanlion

🏆 NEWS: My script, Undecided, won the top screenwriting award at @outonfilm this year.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours on this script over the last few years, tinkering with every word and trying to get this story right.

As part of the festival, a few scenes were staged as a reading. It was surreal to hear words that have lived with me for so long come out of the mouths of such talented actors.

I truly believe Undecided is a story worth telling, and I’m grateful for this step toward getting it made one day.

Thank you to Out On Film’s staff, board, and jurors for seeing something in these characters and their world. Special thanks to @leothemanlion for pulling the reading together, and to the actors who made these characters jump off the page:

@stiggah_man
@darrell_snedeger
@justiceleague_reed
@ernaisjacurry
@nathan_kornick_film

And to my village of friends who show up for me more than I deserve: thank you.

On Monday I was on another panel at @outonfilm; this time ‘Pitch: Creating Our World’ moderated by Leo Hollen and alongside panelists Mya-Breyana Morton, Mike Manning and Amy McGary

PITCH: CREATING OUR WORLD
Every great film begins with an idea-but turning that idea into something other people believe in is a craft all its own. Whether you're speaking to producers, grant panels, investors, collaborators, or festival programmers, learning to clearly communicate your vision can open doors long before a camera ever rolls.
During this interactive session, industry professionals will break down what makes a compelling pitch, discuss common mistakes, and share practical advice on tailoring your presentation to different audiences. Then, you will have the opportunity to step up and pitch your own projects in a supportive environment, receiving constructive feedback from experienced filmmakers and industry guests.

Moderator: Leo Hollen, Jr.
Panelists:
Mya-Breyana Morton
Naomi Bennett
Mike Manning
Amy McGary

The oscar race (RACE?!) was about more than an obnoxious comment. But some people just want a petty narrative. The timeline is the timeline. taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @leothemanlion
