Put yourself in an environment to win
and take risks, we’re so young! Now is the time

Here I’m chatting with the (now) current pound for pound number 1 mma fighter in the world @alexvolkanovski
6 weeks before UFC 232
About some questions he had on over training, recovery and why weight cuts where getting harder / post fight weight re gain

I never would have been able to do this in Worthing

I moved back to Thailand on 3 weeks notice 😂 I had no plan, no job and other than 1 person who was still there from 2012, no friends

Just a gut feeling and some self belief

Thank you @ghick1 @gifi910 @woody_vva @coach_kobes
For first inspiring me and then believing in me which facilitated conversations like this happening

What risks are you taking this year or next? by @leotysonn2

66km over London to draw a @strav.art Vul*v*

And a marathon with a period pain simulator (for 16km of it)

Both events done 2 weeks apart for @theendometriosisfoundation and @censhershipcampaignofficial

I messed the route up at the north West Point and south east meaning this doesn’t look as much like a Vu*lv* as it should but hopefully it’s still noticeable enough that with the scale over London it will get some people to stop scrolling and read this

Tech platforms are censoring women’s health anatomy and language

As well as banning ads about perfectly normal women’s health experiences or conditions

The opposite isn’t true for men

If I even use the word vulv* I get a notification asking if I’m sure I want to post this

@talkswithdrsesay is one of the many doctors talking about the very real consequences this on women’s relationships with their body’s and subsequently how lo no they delay seeking care

I ran the marathon with a period pain simulator on to raise awareness for how much harder women with endometriosis or even ‘regular’ period pains have it in terms of planning life around their cycles and the impacts of pain

I couldn’t keep the cramp simulator on for longer than 16kms and ran the whole marathon in the same time it took me to run a marathon inside yesterdays ultra marathon

Which tells you everything you need to know about how much harder it was

Thank you @carlacressy , @itscliowood , Anna O’Sullivan for your support in doing these 2 events for you

Thank you @drzahra.blogs for joining me on my silly idea to run 66km, I didn’t believe you when you offered 🤣 but I’m very glad we got to do that together

Thank you everyone who joined us for the last 5k yesterday!

And @elliotmeeten for picking me up 55k when I really needed it to get to the meet point for the last 5k on time

And @deirdre.o.neill @hertility for the merch! Hertility are amazing advocates of the censorship campaign

The donation link is in my bio and will also be on my stories so if you can please feel free to donate to these 2 great causes - @theendometriosisfoundation and @censhershipcampaignofficial

I’ll match all donations 💜🫶 by @leotysonn2

Have a swipe for why we’re building @nexusconnected

Currently health tech is built in isolated verticals often not specifically for women, but women are unique and health does not occur in isolation. We know from our white paper ‘The Period App Problem’ many women feel disappointed when they download menstrual cycle trackers as they expect more from them

What’s missing is the health tech you’re probably already using but with a female specific onboarding process with over 50,000 combinations resulting in a personalized approach to wellness with your AI coach Nova in the same place giving you access to a coach which knows you

The vision and background behind Nexus

I’ve worked with around 1000 female clients experiencing digestive, hormonal and menstrual cycle related symptoms in just over 11 years but I always had this bugging feeling when I’d do a consultation call and a woman couldn’t afford 1-1 online health coaching. It was so frustrating to know you could help a woman and then see them often try to put the pieces together themself using various different bits of tech or work with a cheaper coach who just as likely would make a woman's health worse rather than better!

So our north star is to re-create the personalisation, clarity, guidance and education that comes with 1-1 online health coaching but at an accessible price point for any woman who needs it.

Our mission is to empower every woman with a health coaching companion in her pocket so she can become her own health expert and connect the dots.

Our vision is a world where women have control of their own data and are able to use it for more efficient and effective conversations with their medical professionals or health care provides, helping to reduce medical gashlighting, support in referrals and subsequently reduce diagnostic times via advocacy, education and consolidated data. by @leotysonn2

“We know more about coffee, wine and tomatoes than we do about breast milk”

@drsionedjones co-founder @boobybiome episode now live on The Women’s Wellness Show - closing out season 2 by saving the best for last!

Dr Sioned was the recipient of the 2023 Potts medal for outstanding science

Boobybiome has 6 successful innovate UK grants! Raising over £2 million just from these

We speak about:

The education and awareness gap in both women’s and maternal health. Until the early 2000s it was thought that breast milk was sterile

How the team couldn’t culture bacteria from the breast milk samples, they couldn’t figure out why until they realized a baby’s latch creates a vacuum. Breast milk isn’t exposed to oxygen during feeding! The bacteria is anaerobic and this discovery led to their 2nd product creation

Building the company whilst defining a sector

“The deep tech investors didn’t like the consumer angle. The consumer VCs didn’t like the deep tech. The women’s health VCs said you aren’t quite Femtech either “

The Boobybiome team raised £3.25 million from the investors who did get it

Should we be studying the v*ginal microbiome?

Dr Chrysi the founder of @xxinnovation came on The Women’s Wellness Show to talk about the $1 Trillion missed opportunity on studying and connecting the women’s health ecosystem

Full podcast episode via the link in my bio @leotysonn2

We also covered:

Fragmentation across the full pathway, from regulation and NHS access through to investment incentives and patient involvement, and why each breakdown point needs its own solution.

Regulation is not the enemy. Why the fear of the regulatory process is a perception problem, not a reality, and why it is never too early for founders to engage with the MHRA.

Misaligned investment incentives. Why the lack of a clear return pathway pushes companies toward wellness when the real need is diagnostics and therapeutics.

The knowledge gap. How little we still understand about female physiology, and why that blocks meaningful progress across the whole system.

Advice for founders. Decide who you are, engage the regulator early, think about your clinical validation, and always centre the patient. by @leotysonn2

Why aren’t we testing the vaginal microbiome and building diagnostics specifically for women?

New episode of The Women’s Wellness show is now live with Marta Ciechonska! Link in my bio

Salient Bio started with 3 microbiome wellness products:
-Vaginal
-Oral
-Gut testing

Microbiome data is powerful enough to detect signatures of disease, so they’re using it to build non-invasive diagnostics.

Their criteria?

-The condition must have a microbial component
-Be difficult or frustrating to diagnose
-And most importantly, disproportionately affect women!

Because too many diagnostics simply weren’t built with women in mind.

That’s exactly what Salient Bio are here to change!

We covered:

From COVID testing to microbiome diagnostics:
Marta Ciechonska shares how Salience Bioscience pivoted from building a high-throughput COVID testing platform to microbiome wellness testing, and ultimately to developing non-invasive diagnostic tests using microbiome data.

Building diagnostics specifically for women.
The team didn’t set out as a women’s health company, but discovered through their research how severely underserved women are in diagnostics, from skewed reference ranges to conditions that simply have no test yet.

And much more! by @leotysonn2

We’re doing our first women’s health* pitch competition 🥳

In collaboration with Rare Founders and in partnership with judges from:
-Albion VC
-THENA Capital
-Five Seasons Ventures
-London Institute Healthcare Engineering

If your a women’s health founder who’s company is less than 3 years old follow the link in my bio to apply to pitch to our judges and the amazing prize draw

This event will also have audience Q+A with our judges and open mic slots to share your idea, startup or search for a co-founder

You can also follow the link in bio to join the event to spectate

Any questions drop me a DM and please tag a founder who’d benefit from this

*Women’s health isn’t just reproductive or gynecological health

Women’s health is health! Only 5% of conditions and diseases a women experience are conditions that affect women solely, 95% are the ones which affect women differently and disproportionately

Therefore if your building in health, unless it’s male specific, your building in women’s health

Women’s health is therefore a sector but also a lens we need to look at multiple other sectors through by @leotysonn2

We need to talk about investors problem with vaginas!

@marinagerner PhD came on The Women’s Wellness Show to talk about her book The Vagina Business

And what can female founders practically do to overcome barriers in fundraising

Link in my bio for Apple, Spotify and YT

What We Covered:

The origin story: 9 in 10 first-time mothers experience a birth injury. The last major innovation in standard birth care was the epidural, popularised in the 1950s. That gap is what sent Marina down this rabbit hole.

Why stigma is the root cause: When a topic is too uncomfortable to discuss, problems go unrecognised and unfunded. One investor is quoted saying he doesn’t want to talk about vaginas at his Monday morning partner meeting.

The VC funding reality: Only 0.25% of all companies receive VC. Of that, just 2–4% goes into women’s health. Female founding teams get roughly 1–2% of all VC despite making up 20–40% of founders.

The gender congruence trap: Female founders raise more easily in fashion, beauty, and children’s products. Women’s health sits in an awkward middle — too stigmatised for some investors, too hardware-heavy for others. The “lack of fit bias.”

The craft beer study : Consumers expected beer made by a woman to taste worse and paid less for it. Two things closed the gap: external validation and domain expertise.

Promotion vs prevention questions: Investors ask female founders how they’ll handle losses; they ask male founders what success looks like. When you get a prevention-based question, answer with a promotion-based frame.

Practical strategies: Apply for awards and grants actively. Look up previous recipients and reach out. Grants are non-dilutive funding and a powerful third-party validation signal, a dual benefit many founders underestimate.

Key Takeaways:

-Seek external validation proactively such as awards, grants, press. Don’t wait for it to come to you.

-Spin prevention questions into promotion answers in every pitch.

-Investing in women’s health is a commercial opportunity, not a social impact play. by @leotysonn2

Very excited for this event in 2 weeks in collaboration with @censhershipcampaignofficial

Link in my bio @leotysonn2

Women’s health founders and content creators face many specific barriers such as:

-Misinformation + Confusion

-Trust / Personal health data

-The research gap meaning evidence-based guidance is constantly evolving

-Censorship, women’s health content is being shadowbanned or removed entirely, contributing to the rise of misinformation

63% of women use social media to research health or wellness information at least occasionally (1)

First time founders focus on product, second time founders focus on distribution

I don’t completely love that saying in women’s health because an evidence-based product is so important, but it doesn’t make the distribution piece less true

I’m working on exciting plans to support women’s health startups with content creation and bringing ambassadors into the fold

Starting with an event in two weeks in collaboration with @censhershipcampaignofficial , Tue 21st April, 3.45pm

This event is for women’s health founders + marketing

A panel and themed small group workshops to unpack your challenges around fundraising, marketing, brand, storytelling & content creation

Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to get hands on expert support:

“If this was a problem wouldn’t it have been solved by now?”

You’d like to think because a problem affects 50% of the population it would have been acknowledged and solutions would have been in the works

But that hasn’t been the case with women’s health

@radytee explains the first hypothesis and then prototype which led to the creation of @samphireneuro
