Last night, we had the honor of attending the 2026 GIFFORDS Texas Celebration of Courage—an inspiring evening celebrating courage, leadership, and the movement to create safer communities.

Lesley was deeply honored to share the stage with Kimberly Mata-Rubio, mother of 10-year-old Lexi, who was killed at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, and Ruth Moonesinghe mother of Rajan, who was killed by police in his Austin home in 2022. Both women have transformed unimaginable loss into advocacy for safer communities. Lesley is proud to stand alongside them and witness their courage.

Lesley spoke about the importance of off-site firearm storage and how secure, temporary options can help keep children, families, and communities safer. We encouraged the crowd to step in during moments of crisis: ask the question and offer http://GunStorageMap.com as a resource.

Gabby Giffords is truly a force, with a safer and stronger America at the core of everything she does. Her courage continues to inspire us.

Listening to Brené Brown reminded us that even in a deeply divided country, there is hope in choosing courage, connection, and conversation.

At Pierce’s Pledge, we believe building bridges between gun-safety advocates makes us stronger. We are grateful for the opportunity to share Pierce’s story and our mission on such a meaningful stage taken in ACL Live by @lesleyahu

This law was inspired by the work we do at Pierce’s Pledge. We believe that off site safe storage is the key to keeping kids safe from more gun violence in America.

As suicide and filicide rates rise in America, public safety laws like this are essential to reduce these horrible tragedies.

Happy birthday to my big brother Scott!!! He’s a true gentleman with the kindest, biggest heart. His unfaltering loyalty and love for his family- shows in every white hair on his head. Because he will take on every stress possible just so we don’t have to.

Thank you for always being by my side and source of strength for when I don’t have enough for myself. For making me such a tough girl - You always said I could do it, even when I didn’t believe I could.

You’re an incredible dad to Harrison and Munro - and they are so lucky to have you guiding them!
And you’re the best uncle to Pierce - through every dimension + time.

100+ kids. 7 celebrity judges. One San Francisco plaza. Zero interest in accepting gun violence as the leading cause of death for children and teens in America.

This is Pawz for Pierce’s Playaz 2026.

Pierce’s classmates and the kids of United Playaz stood shoulder to shoulder — different neighborhoods, different worlds, same fight. Coaches and rappers and legislators and actors showed up alongside them, for the same reason: because a mother turned the worst day of her life into a movement that keeps growing.

Every dollar we raised goes toward a gun buyback and prevention programs chosen by the youth themselves.

Pierce would be so proud. Watch to the end.

And a huge thank you to @brianspitz22 for your incredible work in documenting this event and bringing it back to life for all to view. Your heart and talent are unmatched!

Leadership creates change.

As a father of two, San Francisco Supervisor Stephen Sherrill was moved by Lesley and Pierce's story and took action. He teamed up with Pierce's Pledge to establish the nation's FIRST Safe Storage Program with the SFPD. Championing gun violence prevention advocacy throughout San Francisco, and inspiring others across the nation to do the same.

From the very beginning, Supervisor Sherrill recognized that voluntary, temporary firearm storage is a practical, compassionate tool that can help keep children and families safe during times of crisis. His leadership and commitment have helped turn an idea into life-saving resources.

Today, the Pierce's Pledge Safe Storage Program in San Francisco makes it easier for residents to learn about and access voluntary firearm storage resources when they need them most.

But what makes Supervisor Sherrill's leadership especially meaningful is that he believes in empowering the next generation. By spending time with the students at Pawz for Pierce's Playaz, he showed our young advocates that their voices matter and that meaningful change happens when communities work together.

Thank you for your partnership Supervisor Sherrill, your leadership, and your dedication to building a safer San Francisco for every child and every family.

Dear Pierce,

When you were about 4 years old, I took you and Jake, your 100 pound Saint Bernard-Golden Retriever mix best friend for a walk near Moss Cove Beach in Carmel. It was a typical cold Northern California summer day but the setting sun poured its golden rays across the calm ocean waves, which made this dusk evening magical. And the three of us knew it.

We walked out along the rocks that protruded over the water so we could watch the wildlife below. Families of otters were floating on their backs, cracking clams on their chests — just like in the nature shows, except we had front-row seats.

I sat down on the rock to watch our cute little friends and soak in the warm glow of the sunset. You, Pierce, climbed onto my left leg and snuggled into me like I was the most comfortable chair you had ever sat in. Jake pressed in on my right, his big body as close to mine as he could get. I wrapped both arms around my two best boys, and the three of us just sat there chatting about the otters and gazing out at the vast beautiful ocean. You and Jake stayed right there with me until the sun finally set. It was the most perfect moment of my life, I knew it then and I know it now.

Pierce, I wish more than anything, that we had more time. I can’t buy you a birthday gift but all I can do is gift you the memory of this magical moment, and ask all the people who support us to bear witness to it.

Thank you for showing me the beauty of life. The moments that matter and that need to be cherished.

You and your pup Jake are in heaven doing big things from the other side. You are saving so many lives. I wish I could celebrate your birthday with you earthside, but I celebrate you today and every day — along with so many others who love you.

Happy 15th birthday, Pierce. I love you always, and my love will find you wherever you are.

Black C of RBL Posse has been with Pierce's Pledge since the beginning. Year three, he's still here.

He judges dogs. He talks to our kids. He shows a plaza full of young people that legends of the Bay Area music scene care what they think — and that their voices are worth listening to.

Loyalty like his doesn't happen by accident. It happens because he means it.

Thank you, Black C, for standing with us year after year, and for helping honor Pierce's legacy with your presence, your voice, and your unwavering support.

You might know Elisa Donovan from Clueless, or Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Our students know her because she showed up.

Elisa lives in San Francisco. She's a mom. And when she heard about Pierce's Pledge, she didn't send a check and call it a day — she came to Civic Center Plaza, judged a dog show, and spent the afternoon reminding a hundred young people that their voices matter and their work is being seen.

That's who she is. That's why we're lucky to have her.

Meet Ziggy — 11th grader, United Playaz leader, and for the third year running, one of the voices our students look forward to most.

Ziggy has seen what gun violence does to young people, families, and the neighborhoods that raise them. He could have let those experiences shrink his world. Instead, he uses them to open doors for other kids — showing them what real leadership looks like when it comes from someone who's lived it.

At Pawz for Pierce's Playaz 2026, Ziggy reminded our community what we already suspected: the next generation isn't waiting for permission to lead. They're already doing it.

For the third year in a row, Assembly Member Catherine Stefani judged dogs, hugged students, and reminded a whole plaza of young people that their voices are being heard in Sacramento.

She's not just an ally. She's a leader.

As the founder of San Francisco's Moms Demand Action chapter and now our Assemblymember, Stefani has been one of the most effective champions of gun violence prevention in California — authoring Wyland's Law and AB 1974, which expands access to voluntary firearm storage through local law enforcement.

But what our students will remember isn't the legislation. It's that she showed up. She talked to them. She meant it.
