@d_and_ad Ceremony and my last hurrah as President. 🖤

What an absolute honor — and what a year it’s been.

Getting to co-host with my good friend @xquamx, present numerous awards to my @uncommon.creative.studio crew who absolutely killed it this past year, and, as the icing on the cake, give my President’s Award to a living icon, @irma_boom_amsterdam.

“We are gathered here tonight…”

What a way to prove that creativity is alive. 🖤✏️

Last night, it was a full house at Christ Church Spitalfields in London (@spitalfields.venue) as the creative community gathered to honour the best of the best at the 2026 D&AD Awards Ceremony.

From the first Pencil of the night to the final Black, there was plenty to celebrate. Four Black Pencils were awarded across three incredible entries (with one taking home two Black Pencils), and the top creatives, top companies and President’s Award winner were all revealed.

Congratulations to every single Pencil winner who walked across the stage, or celebrated from afar. Our thanks go out to D&AD President Lisa Smith (@lisadesignnyc) and Kwame Taylor-Hayford (@xquamx) for hosting the show, and to Christ Church Spitalfields for our incredible venue.

“Size is an issue,” says Mary Lewis, Creative Director at @lewismoberly.

At D&AD Festival 2026, Mary joined current D&AD President Lisa Smith (@lisadesignnyc) of @uncommon.creative.studio to explore what happens when creative companies get swallowed up by bigger institutions, and what gets lost along the way.

After around 40 years of running her own consultancy, Mary has seen the impact first-hand: “culture goes out the door”, institutionalisation sets in, and “it destroys creativity, and it destroys a sense of belonging.”

Mary became D&AD’s first female President in 1995, after 33 years of male leadership; 30 years before Lisa took on the role. And at the Festival, they looked at how far creative leadership has come and where it needs to go next.

So, is bigger really better? Mary and Lisa have thoughts. Watch their talk in full at the link in bio.

D&AD is excited to announce the appointment of internationally-acclaimed design leader Lisa Smith (@lisadesignnyc) as its new President for the 2025/2026 term, succeeding Kwame Taylor-Hayford.

Lisa is one of the world’s most renowned creative leaders, with deep roots at D&AD as an award winner, program leader, Advisory Board Member and Trustee. As Global Chief Design Officer at Uncommon Creative Studio (@uncommon.creative.studio), she continues to lead the studio’s vision to embed design at the core of everything it creates – from the biggest rebrand in entertainment history for EA Sports, to the most influential campaign in Instagram’s 15-year history with ANYWAY, to evolving The Ordinary’s in-store retail experience worldwide.

Now, as D&AD President, Lisa will help lead the organisation as the entire industry faces an urgent need to adapt to a rapidly evolving business and creative landscape. "There’s a fundamental transformation happening – driven by emerging technologies, shifting cultural dynamics, and a redefinition of what ‘creativity’ even means,” she explains. “The lines between disciplines are dissolving. To meet these challenges, the industry must embrace adaptability over tradition, investing in continuous learning, championing non-linear talent pathways, and fostering more inclusive, cross-functional collaboration – qualities that have been central to D&AD’s mission and offering from the beginning. As President, I'm honoured that I can play an even bigger role in strengthening that legacy.”
