We often see the final result, but rarely the process behind each work. This is the second phase of a project consisting of 10 tapestries, each measuring 5 x 15 feet, currently on view at the @mdckendall Gallery, curated by Rina Gitlin @rtcurated .
It has taken a couple of years to complete these 15 foot tall tapestries, building the textile foundations from scratch using recycled rope and carefully selecting each image to inhabit this new imagined landscape. The full project consists of 20 tapestries in which the landscape is woven thread by thread as a construction of memory and territory.
My deepest gratitude goes to every person and institution that has accompanied this process: the Miami Individual Artists Grant; the MDC Kendall Gallery; Rina Gitlin for her curatorial guidance; @jbasile40 and @juanjhenriquez for their support with the installation of the textile works; Theresa Goldstein and her team for logistics; Dainy Tapia of @art.seen.365 for her unconditional support; my children, Julián @synthwave64_ and Fausto, for always walking beside me on this journey; and Christiana @ine_kimba for the beautiful bouquet of flowers.❤️🙏🏻
I also share the official photographs taken by Francesco Casale @fcasale2018 , along with several process videos. Of course, timelapse has been my greatest ally in documenting so many uninterrupted hours of work. Photo creadits: 1-9 Francesco Casale, 10 Ramon Mizrahi by @lisuvega

Today, June 14, is your birthday 88. ❤️🙏🏻
This year, I celebrate you with a heart full of gratitude.
To see your memories, your chair, your patio, your tree, the roots embracing your house, the mango leaves now present at the Orlando Museum of Art @orlandomuseumofart as part of the Florida Prize feels like having you close once again.
Happy birthday, my love, my Yiya.
I know you’re smiling from heaven, proud that your home is here.
I’m sharing the poem I write that connects deeply with the work created in your honor born from love, memory, and longing. Now these pieces live where others can feel your presence too.

Your chair is still there,
beneath the tree you planted,
the one that gave shade,
sweet mangoes, and now
embraces your house with its roots.
You don’t need to be here,
your soul walks through every room.
If the lights go out, you turn them on.
If the music stops,
the house keeps on sounding:
my grandfather’s radio,
the sewing machine,
the oxygen tank,
and the prayer that accompanied you before you left this plane.
Every corner remembers you,
every image celebrates you.
Your chair, like a throne,
connected to the tree,
still honors your presence.

Thank you, @coralieccg and your team, for walking beside me through this beautiful journey and making this project possible.
Thank you, @mariancaro.foto , for your incredible eye and sensitivity—you helped bring emotion and memory to life.
To my family and friends—Juan @juanjhenriquez , Julian @synthwave64_ , Fausto, Tia Nery @agnerisbermudez , Lisbeth @coqueta2 , Dainy @art.seen.365 , Lito, and Lita thank you for being with me and helping make this final chapter unforgettable.
Bringing a piece of Cabimas here was the most incredible experience of the year.
With all my love,
💛

I am deeply honored and grateful to share that my work, A Momentary Whole, presented with @gladwellprojects , has been awarded the 2026 Pommery Prize @champagnepommery at @thearmoryshow , as part of the Platform section, Passages and Thresholds, curated by @jovannav

Receiving this recognition and being surrounded by such incredible artists has been a true honor. As part of the prize, A Momentary Whole will continue its journey and will be presented at the historic Pommery Cellars in Reims, France.

This work is deeply personal and meaningful to me. It was born from grief: from the pain of losing my grandmother, but also from the loss of the places I once inhabited. Weaving becomes a living trace a way of reconstructing what no longer exists physically, but continues to live in my memory.

To see a piece that was born from pain transform, travel, and find new places is deeply moving to me. It carries with it a part of my history, my roots, and everything that continues to live within me. Above all, it celebrates something that will always be mine: the love I have for my family and the memory of what we lived.

None of this would be possible without my family. @juanjhenriquez @synthwave64_ and Fausto, thank you for holding me up, for walking beside me, and for always believing in me.
To my friends who have been there since day one Dainy @art.seen.365 @coqueta2 thank you for your love, for always being there, and @carolann721 @ine_kimba for believing in my work. ❤️🙏🏻
My deepest gratitude also goes to Champagne Pommery, The Armory Show, @kylasaintgeorge Jovanna Venegas, and Gladwell Projects, and to everyone who made this recognition possible.
I am also deeply grateful to the curators @bonet.hekit and @pamdebono, who gave me the opportunity to present A Momentary Whole for the first time.

Congratulations @lisuvega querida on your triumphant takeover of @thearmoryshow—including winning the 2026 Pommery Prize! 🏆✨

It felt wonderful to return to our community at work last night. Thank you @marisa_jahn and @rcembalest for the art adventures! And I was thrilled to reunite with @lynkeeart @yvenadespagneart @oursols @dianaeusebiostudio @novej.studi0s and others not pictured here—a reminder that the art world is a supportive web of real relationships.

Seeing work by @edisonpenafielstudio and @marco.a.castillo at @fredricsnitzergallery and @nararoesler, respectively, blurred past and present for me. ⏳

And @charpenelpatrick and I were twinning!

A joy, too, to celebrate @helina.metaferia and colleagues at the @schomburgcenter after @thearmoryshow ❤️✨

Gladwell Projects is proud to announce that Lisu Vega has been awarded the 2026 Pommery Prize supported by Champagne Pommery at The Armory Show for A Momentary Whole, presented by the gallery as part of Platform: Passages and Thresholds, curated by Jovanna Venegas, Curator at SculptureCenter.

Alongside a major cash prize, Champagne Pommery @champagnepommery has invited Vega to present A Momentary Whole at the historic Pommery Cellars in Reims, France, this fall, extending the life of the installation beyond New York and bringing the work to France in parallel with Gladwell Projects’ forthcoming Paris presentation this October.

Spanning approximately forty feet, A Momentary Whole brings together translucent photographic transfers on polysilk, deconstructed rope, and woven sculptural forms. Across its shifting surfaces, family photographs and fragments of lived experience emerge and recede, transforming the personal archive into an exploration of memory, migration, ancestry, and belonging that is at once intimate and monumental.

Presented alongside the installation, Vega’s freestanding woven sculptures extend this language through intricate accumulations of rope, knots, braids, and repurposed fibers, revealing the remarkable breadth of a practice increasingly moving between textile, sculpture, photography, and architecture.

We are deeply grateful to @champagnepommery , @thearmoryshow , and @jovannav for this recognition, and we are immensely proud as this body of work enters its next chapter.

Congratulations, @lisuvega 🤍

A Momentary Whole and a selection of Vega’s woven sculptures remain on view at The Armory Show through September 27 at the Javits Center, New York.

We are very happy to share the video we created during our family residency in Coyoacán - Mexico City at @the.ant.project from June to July 2026.

Thank you, @guadalupe.garcia.m , family and friends for accompanying us and helping us move through the cycles of life by exploring new creative processes together.

During the residency, we explored ceramics, printmaking, photography, and assemblage, bringing our different artistic practices together and finding new ways for them to enter into dialogue with one another.
Having the opportunity for the four of us to develop individual bodies of work that gradually became intertwined throughout the process was truly wonderful. This video offers a small glimpse into each of our practices and into everything that unfolded during the residency.

Thank you, Diego @deos_fractal , for capturing this entire process, and thank you to everyone who accompanied and supported us throughout the residency. We will always be grateful.

With love,

At the center of Gladwell Projects’ forthcoming solo presentation of Lisu Vega for Platform at The Armory Show is A Momentary Whole, 2025, a monumental forty-foot textile installation around which the entire presentation will take shape.

In advance of the fair, we offer a rare glimpse into its making.

Vega begins with an expansive family archive, scanning and reworking birth certificates, license plates, wedding photographs, domestic scenes, and images spanning generations of her family. Rather than organizing these records chronologically, she brings them into a layered field where distant moments meet and overlap.

Strands of deconstructed rope are sewn directly onto translucent poly silk, forming branching networks inspired by the roots of a mango tree planted by Vega’s late grandmother in Venezuela. The scanned archive is then photographically transferred across this tactile surface. As images move between silk and rope, faces, gestures, and fragments of text shift in clarity, allowing the archive to behave as memory does: nonlinear, unstable, and shaped as much by absence as by preservation.

Weaving is both material process and conceptual structure within Vega’s practice. She brings images and ephemera into relation just as she knots, binds, and accumulates rope within her sculptural totems. Photography and textile become inseparable carriers of memory.

Seen here across the studio floor, A Momentary Whole exceeds any single frame. Its monumentality emerges through an accumulation of intimate decisions: transferring, sewing, positioning, and reconsidering.

At The Armory Show, the work will unfold as a maze, enveloping a constellation of Vega’s woven sculptures and creating intimate passages through which viewers can encounter the archive from within.

Next week, the archive becomes architecture.
