Mother’s Day got a bit tougher about 18 months ago… so proud to have been taught by the best. Miss you mum… For mum

Bedtime adventures in faraway trees and factories of chocolate and mad hatter teas. Humpty Dumpties and pails up a hill, the hungriest Tigers, and Caterpillars, hungrier still. Audio books and radio two, motorway driving with nothing to do. Little feet hopping onto weetabix boxes, learning to read words like look, said and foxes. Ducklings quacking, green grocers cackling, Laughter and giggles downstairs making a din, whilst warm and cosy all tucked in. Cracking fires and dancing feet, an irish jig for special treat. Doors slamming, voices raised, opening windows and words of praise.

These are the sounds of love you shared with me.

Soft grey pixie boots, and shiny shoe polish, Espa facials and orange lollies, Jo Malone perfume, white Lilies galore, butter beans bubbling, brownie mix dripped on the floor. Roast dinners, BBQs and sausages ‘caught’. Christmas puddings, tiramisu, and licorice allsorts. Sauvignon blanc, champagne corks, G & Ts and maybe port . These are the smells of love that you shared with me.

Reflexology, facials, hands pushing the swing, present wrapping, candle lighting, christmas tree bling. Stuff sorting, cashmere cuddling, car driving, baby snuggling, tear drying, nail painting, card writing. These are the touches of love you shared with me.

Tropical sunsets, cowsheds and coal fires, cold windy mountains and churches with spires. Long loving stares, the power of ‘the look’, eye rolls and eye smiles, a beach holiday book. Candles burning on every surface, dressing for dinner, a table that’s perfect. Oceans, islands, mountains and rivers. Pizzas, icecreams and cakes into slivers. These are the sights you shared with me.

Friday we said goodbye to the ‘goodest’ of dogs. The luckiest, weirdest, most loyal. My heart is broken but now he will finally catch that rabbit, swim in the waves, snuggle up with Taffy, Daisy, Roddy and our Jess dog. Mum- can you take him for walks please? And his favourite snack is peas! Thanks Tank- you are missed. 💛 by @littlegemhk

Back to school tomorrow and just thinking of the summer we have had. And the most important thing for me this Christmas and actually, this year, has been the time I have had with my dad. Tough reasons why we have had so much time together, but I have loved knowing him in a different way. As a friend, a work mentor/ sounding board, a more vulnerable person than I thought, and as an incredibly resilient and kind human. I look forward to many more hours and days hanging out together.. maybe with a wine or two? by @littlegemhk
