You can be a mediocre sportsperson and still call it a big adventure :) You can figure things out as you go!

We spent 3 weeks exploring Sicily with our climbing gear strapped to our bikes (yes, with all the camping stuff the bikes were pretty heavy). The first days I was so scared climbing - but the more I relaxed, practiced and started focusing on the fun, the better it went!

To slow days, and just having a blast out there - that’s what counts in the end ✨

Thanks so much @ortlieb_waterproof for providing us with the best bike set up for these adventures!

The perfect campspot doesn’t exis….

I still can’t believe this place is real!! After a week of cycling across Sicily with our heavy loaded bikes (the part where we regretted the idea of bringing all the climbing gear), we ended up in San Vito, this incredible place on our planet. Endless walls to to climb on, barely any other people (we were in the end of march, so quite early in the season), the ocean right by. Flowers in all colors covered the ground. We had coffee, climbed for as long as we wanted and watched sunsets every night… and repeated the same thing the other day.

This is literally my definition of paradise I think.
Thanks so much to @seatosummiteu for providing us the best sleeping system for this adventure!!

7 months, 6 countries, 1 bike.
Thousands of kilometers have been cycled, including countless ascents and descents - physical and mental ones 🙃

The post shows 1 picture from every country of the route, from Patagonia to Colombia 🌎

Thank you for sharing this adventure for most of the time @where.is.luise - I wouldn’t have started a bikepacking trip without you.

And thanks so much @isobaamerino for your support with our clothing. Your merino wear has kept us warm throughout the whole trip, and is still in fantastic condition!

A big thanks to @rovativ.de for your support with my bike bags. I’m a huge fan of the products - they kept everything 100% waterproof, and we reeeally went through lots of rough weather.

✨

Now, back home, I’m still not fully able to comprehend what journey I’ve just been on… and while I’m trying find my way back into this fast-paced, overstimulated life here, my mind still wanders somewhere in the remote Andes of South America.
The soul travels slower than the body, they say. I know what they mean.

Nevertheless it’s good to be back! To see friends and family, have a reliant warm shower when you want one, drink tab water, eat good food. The magic of this „every day luxury“ vanishes way too quickly though! During the first days when I was back, I was so excited by the overwhelming choices in a supermarket, or just by toilet paper being available in public bathrooms. My standards were so low! I wish it would stay that way, because I was so appreciative of all these little things. But our minds don’t work this way - we get used to comfort so quickly and the sooner you know, the standards are back to where they were before the trip.

One big difference I realize though, is that I’m very calm in the inside. It’s like somewhere along this trip I’ve built a „stress-filter“ within me, that decelerates the rush from outside. I realized that there’s barely ever a reason to stress or freak out… I guess humans just really like to be concerned, but mostly, there’s just no reason.

Pedal on: towards front wheel
Pedal off: towards back wheel

Bike mechanics don’t come easy to me; and recently I got so confused with „turn the screw to the left“ - because it’s always different depending which side of the bike you’re on 😁

Hope this helps someone out there!

can you spot the marmot? 🧐

Just came back from this little trail-side-quest, exploring a bit more of my backyard (the central alps!).
I took the train from Innsbruck to Brennero, then cycled down to Sterzing and started climbing up to meet the route from there. With the route I mean the @bikepackingcom route „The Zillertal Trail“ :)
I had all the essentials squeezed into my handlebar bag (sleeping pad & mat, 1 change of clothes, camera, rain jacket) and holyyyy crap it’s so nice having so much space compared to a dropbar!!

Because it has a lot of trail sections I took my new Hardtail mountain bike buuuut I didn’t take the time to get it properly fitted to me. So I started having knee pain pretty much after the first big climb, and decided to not continue on day 2 after half of the route. I took the train back home from Mayrhofen (super easy; they go every 30 minutes!) and will come back for part 2 of the Zillertal trail soon!

I mean I can’t miss that hike-a-bike section @tristanbogaard @belletoscan 🫠

Thanks @marinbikes_dach for this awesome bike (the Team Marin 2)!! Can’t wait to ride more trails with it 🎉 by @livingintents

…my job! Not this instagram thing 😁 And not because I hated my job, but because it was constraining my creativity, my passions and my travel dreams. I want to see so much more of this world, and explore it deeply. And just passing by a place for a week, where meanwhile I’m still thinking about work issues, is not how I want to experience travel. For me, I want to try to understand people and places more thoroughly - so I’m more than excited to be back on the road by the end of August 🎉🌎

Also, there are so many cool projects lining up for 2027 that I want to start organizing now, with a free mind. Exchanging ideas with partners, getting a website set up, and all that! I’m so excited!

And if you’re wondering how I’m affording all this - I’ve saved up a bit, and I’m still doing freelance work here and there, moved into a cheaper place to live and never go out to eat 😁 aaaand I travel like a classic dirtbag bikepacker in a tent, travel slowly and choose more affordable regions to visit 🫶

Feel free to follow along how this all goes!

5 days across Slovenia 🚴‍♀️⛺️😮‍💨

This was probably the most spontaneous trip I’ve ever been on - 2 days before we left we decided on the destination (western Slovenia)! It was so easy to reach by train, that more friends joined the tour throughout the trip 😍

We cycled from Bled to Trieste, mostly on gravel & camped every night - can recommend 10/10!!

Love you so much @jazz_gravelbliss @iampaulinanna @vickys.visions

Bikepacking side quest with friends - check!
Honestly would recommend this to anyone: block a weekend, wait until the weather forecast is reliable and then choose a sunny destination to cycle 🎉 *ad

Essentials I would ALWAYS bring on trips like these is
* for sure my Leatherman (I have the Skeletool CX, it’s so light!)
* a sun protected lip balm
* merino shirts
* a spork
* 20.000 power bank
* electrical tape
* and lots of SNAAACKS

Adventure weekends lets goooo!!
@jazz_gravelbliss @iampaulinanna @vickys.visions love you so much!

The Wild Escape is not just about the ride. It’s about the people, the fun, the views, and all the little moments in between <3

Thank you so much @marinbikes_dach for for helping us open the door to more adventures and letting us test the Marin gravel fleet!

Seeing riders of different backgrounds and experience levels come together is exactly why we do this. 🚴‍♀️🫶⛰️

someone recently said to me: „Mel, I think I don’t know anyone with a crazier life than you“ - what felt like the biggest compliment to me ☺️

I’ve been trying to follow my heart, a life that lights up my inner spark… which is really hard in our society that pushes us towards a well-paying 9-5 job. But whenever I stayed with a corporate job for a while, I started to become frustrated and uninspired. My creativity would go away, I would move less, complain more.

So, over and over again I choose to go on trips, follow my passions - and most recently: become an event manager and content creator!

To following our hearts and having a little faith that it’ll all work out somehow :)✨

And a huge shoutout to @vickys.visions for these INCREDIBLE photos of our second Wild Escape Edition this year @thewildescape_ by @livingintents

30 women*, 30 bikes, 3 days across our beautiful Tyrolean Alps - that was the Wild Escape 2026! ✨

What a magical weekend, exploring gravel paths, camping next to Germany’s highest mountain (the Zugspitze!) and stretching our legs with goats and donkeys in the evening sun.

The pictures above say it all - we had a blast! Thank you so much @ortlieb_waterproof to provide us with the best bikepacking bags there are. For a few women* it was actually their first bikepacking trip ever! So being able for them to experience this trip with proper bike bags really lowered the threshold into this world on two wheels for them :)

And basically, that’s what @thewildescape_ is all about: creating a space, where all women* of all experience levels feel welcome and simply share a great time <3

Thanks for being part of it!
