Testing, testing… until I finally found something I like! This is the warp I was working on for the recent @weftmagazine article I wrote about the efficiency of sectional warping vs warping boards. I have something like 20+ yards of kitchen towel warp that I set up for the article and have threaded it with a turned twill on 8 shafts. Experimenting with weft colours, directions, blocks and shapes and I love what is happening in the fabric now. Walk with me! This is 3 minutes before the start of my “Handwoven Colour” workshop at @knitcitycanada Knit City Calgary. Nine pre-warped looms ready to weave, a bobbin winding station with a buffet of yarns and colours, a warping board to demo my favourite faux ikat technique, and samples from the past 20 years of hand-dyeing and weaving. ✨

It was so much fun to see everyone experimenting with colour, trying different looms and tools, and just getting a chance to play.

I absolutely love that weaving involves so many different steps and movements. It keeps me engaged and motivated throughout the process. I’ve learned to love all the steps, from measuring the warp to threading the heddles to throwing the shuttle. But this moment where I tighten the knots at the front beam and close them on the second pass is one of my favourites. It feels clean, tidy, and ready to close one chapter and move to the next. Good morning from the loom! Coffee and a bit of Krokbragd weaving. This is a pattern that I’m finally writing up… the finished project will actually be a little 2’x3’ rug but this is the swatch/sample. I’m calling this giant mug rug a “snack rug” from now on. This is the new Dwella rug yarn from @gistyarn and it’s gorgeous. The colours are so lush and the texture of this yarn is thick and cushy. It feels great and durable for a rug. This is the secret project that has been on my loom these past few months... and I loved it so much, I have a second one on the loom right now in rosy pinks and browns. ⁠

Well, I've been catching up for the past few weeks after being away in Asia with my family... this is the first video that I've published in a while, but I'm pretty excited to share. Today on the SweetGeorgia YouTube channel, I'm talking about this double weave, double width blanket that I wove on my @louet_worldwide Spring countermarche loom. The blanket is woven in four colours of our SweetGeorgia BFL+Silk DK yarn. It's a squishy, soft, and gorgeous fabric full of substance and drape... perfect for making a cozy corner on your couch. ⁠

I believe this is what is called “too much of a good thing”. Hand-painted yarn in the warp, hand-dyed yarn in the weft… I think this weft colour is too much, too high contrast, and really ends up obscuring the handpainted warp. I’d been saving this @sweetgeorgia Merino Silk Lace in Tourmaline for over a decade, waiting for the right project… 😆 maybe this was not it. But I’m interested to see how it will look from afar when it’s off the loom. Funny how “mistakes” look different with some time and a change of perspective. by @lomeetsloom

One of my favourite photos from recent weeks. Buttery soft handwoven scarves in handpainted colours, woven with a 20/2 silk hand-dyed weft. And plus that daylight streaming in through the window is just pure magic.

This is one of the projects that I completed for the “Handpainted Warps” course on the @schoolofsweetgeorgia.
