I'm so honored to be recently featured in @worthmag about my fund @125ventures, which invests in women’s sports as well as media and entertainment. I'm leading the charge in VC by focusing on women’s sports. Did you know women's sports is projected to grow 300% by 2030, yet last year only 1% of investment went to women’s sports. Spunds like an incredible opportunity! Check out the feature in the link in my bio. #Womensports #sportstech #AI&DataAnalytics #NIL #CreatorEconomy taken in New York, New York by @lorinevc

Truly a full-circle moment for me. Last Wednesday, I was invited to speak at the @whitehouse (Biden/Harris) at an impactful roundtable of diverse, women and LGBTQ+ VCs, and people in the VC ecosystem. We offered policy recommendations to people from the Biden administration’s Dept. of Treasury, National Economic Council, and Dept. of Commerce to get more venture capital and investments to LGBTQ+, women, and diverse-led companies. I lived in DC years ago working at the law firm Morgan Lewis on Pennsylvania Avenue only a few blocks from the White House. During my White House presentation, it was truly an honor to share my journey from attorney to angel investor to VC - with @portfoliafunds and now my fund @125ventures the past decade. #whitehouse #VC #policy #women #diverse #LGBTQ #startups #Entrepreneurship #125Ventures taken in White House by @lorinevc

I'm officially out of stealthmode with my new $25M fund @125ventures investing in sports, media, and entertainment at the intersection of tech. I've been working on this fund for the past 12 months. I am so honored Venture Capital Journal highlighted my fund, the origin of its name - a nod to my Harlem roots named after the most iconic street in Harlem. This fund is the culmination of my career in entertainment and media - as an attorney and dealmaker turned angel and VC investor for the past decade. In the US, only 1% of VC firms are owned by Blacks, and only 0.03% are owned by Black women, so I'm in rarified territory. #MakingHistory #VC #Sports #Entertainment #Media taken in New York, New York by @lorinevc

Lorine Pendleton is a trailblazer, a trend spotter, an inspiration, and all the superlatives, including being the cooooolest.

From DJ-ing while at Brown and repping Prince, Chaka Khan, & Stevie Wonder as an entertainment lawyer, to tech, to venture capital, Lorine has evolved her career again & again. Becoming an investor stuck when she heard the stop-you-in-your-tracks stat that less than 1% of venture capital reaches Black founders and decided, right then, to change it: not just who gets funded, but who writes the checks. Today she runs her own fund, 125 Ventures, betting on the future of women’s sports, and its intersection with data and tech.

I love this convo — Lorine and I chatted about how she knows when it’s time to leap, why she’s sure sports is “AI-proof,” how she coached herself to “eat no’s for breakfast,” refusing to let fear guide the way, & the doors she’s holding open for others.

Lorine, thank you for sitting down with me - it was fun to reflect with you on the pivots and see how they’re actually pillars building towards where you are now.

Sports may be one of the last truly AI-proof assets.
In this week’s Substack, I offer a peek behind the scenes of our closed-door Q&A with Lorine Pendleton inside of our Wealth Catalyst Community on why live sports, women’s sports, and the technology infrastructure behind them are becoming such compelling places to look for value. The real opportunity may be less about owning the team and more about owning the systems, data, media, and fan engagement tools every team will eventually need.

Paid subscribers get the deeper investment lessons from our session, including how Lorine found one of her best deals, the follow-on mistake that can cost angel investors their strongest positions, her valuation red lines, and the portfolio structure she uses to build for outliers.

Back from Vietnam. I met this beautiful soul who is a manager at @thereveriesaigon where I stayed. She made a design on my nón lá (traditional Vietnamese hat) as my farewell gift. Thank @dk_ngan93 so much. Thus is one of the best gifts I was given. It's a wonderful reminder of beautiful Vietnam 🇻🇳 and its beautiful people! Miss it already but will be back.
