Lorine Pendleton is a trailblazer, a trend spotter, an inspiration, and all the superlatives, including being the cooooolest.

From DJ-ing while at Brown and repping Prince, Chaka Khan, & Stevie Wonder as an entertainment lawyer, to tech, to venture capital, Lorine has evolved her career again & again. Becoming an investor stuck when she heard the stop-you-in-your-tracks stat that less than 1% of venture capital reaches Black founders and decided, right then, to change it: not just who gets funded, but who writes the checks. Today she runs her own fund, 125 Ventures, betting on the future of women’s sports, and its intersection with data and tech.

I love this convo — Lorine and I chatted about how she knows when it’s time to leap, why she’s sure sports is “AI-proof,” how she coached herself to “eat no’s for breakfast,” refusing to let fear guide the way, & the doors she’s holding open for others.

Summer owes me nothing. Nothing!!! And we are still going…

Flashback to Women’s Basketball with one of my absolute FAVORITE sports team/sports tech investors (and people) THE @lorinevc and the icing on the cake this season was having the privilege of seeing THE Allana Park (daughter of my phenomenal friend, soror, Vandy sister, and literal neighbor—the best BEST ever @susanchspeaks) SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM at the Liberty game in front of Billie Jean King AND Anna Wintour.

Does it get more NY or Women-in-power than that?! I think not. If you know Allana’s momma you know the brilliant close-the-loop-pedigree of Black Woman Board of Directors Magic is included in this mix.

You all…it was a stadium takeover. Allana’s village showed up and showed out and as for the performance—she KILLED. It was a wonderful night that did everything a night like that is supposed to do.

The best thing about all of this? My son only knows supporting Women in Sports as the norm—as it should be. Enjoying the game on a night when your neighbor is bringing down the house? Well, that is as it should be too. 😘

—We were not going to miss her performance. We were practically there when the stadium opened. To be early is to be on time…

NY Tech Week was one for the books.

I met so many great entrepreneurs, investors and ecosystem builders over the week, and even got to run into some familiar faces which is always good!

The early stage of building a company is what I love most, and I spent most of the week talking about that looks like now in an AI era and what it takes for founders to really break through and reach that next level of success…it looks different, a little more difficult but it can be done yall.
