*Happy for this to be shared in hope of further raising awareness* Today I was phoned and told to rush over to the court while the Jury were making their decision. I had said all along that my family and I wanted to be in the courtroom for the verdict. Planned to a tee, milk pumped for baby, children there with me to be looked after by family. Hours of waiting around, only to be told that no one had come and got me in time and the verdict had been given without me there. I waited 5 years for this and yet no one came and got me from the room next door. “Not Guilty”… “It’s not that they didn’t believe you” said the prosecutor. “Unfortunately the system works against the victim. R*pe, sexual assault and historic abuse… Changes are coming slowly, and you should be proud you did this Lauren. We can only hope change will come”. I’m struggling to see the positives right now. Today I’m not seeing the bigger picture, or focusing on what I can do next to be a part of bigger change. Today I’m allowing myself to feel disappointed, not just for me but for those before me and inevitably after me who will feel this. How can I encourage others to do the same when I have to now sit here with this outcome? Maybe tomorrow, next month or next year I’ll see it in a different light ✨ Thank you for all the kind words as I have pushed myself to share this process and I can only hope that together there is more awareness, less stigma and CHANGE by @lsiss

Real life. You can’t script or recreate it. Watching these boys grow. Neighbours. Joint birthday parties with the bouncy castle in the middle of the blocks. Carnival in the estate with rainbows of flags as superhero capes and music blasting. Paper plates. Gossip. Families growing. People moving. Exchanges. Fireworks. Shop runs. 10 kids tagging along and you’d end up buying drinks, ice creams and as many mini bags of sweets as they could carry, only for them to drop them on the walk back. New outfits, new shoes. 8 of them asking to sit in your tiny car and blast music, pretending it was theirs. Making Gus take turns drive them in and out the estate 20 times in a row. A whole lot of bad times too, but maybe I’m just remembering the good ones, with 🌞🍦 by @lsiss
I remember Gus buying this when I was pregnant and thinking it’s going to be years before she can play with it. Now it’s the favourite, brought across the world and being accessorised all day. Representation matters, in children’s books, games, toys, media… but Black artists and creators should be supported in doing so rather than just big brands creating solely for £$€ and market demand. Today marks 5 years. Remembering the names of the 72 loved ones lost 💚 #justiceforgrenfell by @lsiss
5 years. 5 years on and gov promises have still not been met. A reported almost 700,000 people across the UK are KNOWN to still be living within buildings with flammable cladding. Not to mention other fire safety measures not being met. Tenants being forced into paying for changes instead of corporations. 5 years… it’s still #justiceforgrenfell and we still demand CHANGE for all those living in fear 💚 by @lsiss
