Peace Everyone, I want to thank every single person who was present for Studio Arisaema’s Grand Opening / pop up fundraiser. We raised around $800 and celebrated this new chapter for Minneapolis music, being the first and only Black trans & queer owned professional recording studio in the state. None of which would’ve been possible without those who donated their time, coin, voices, food, raffle prizes and care. Now, as Pride month comes to a close, I am here to remind you, the movement for Black trans liberation and autonomy does not end on the 30th of June. It is crucial that we cultivate spaces like Studio Arisaema that champion creative autonomy, especially within Black and trans communities. By us and for us with 0 compromises. As one might expect, being in the business of subverting the status quo in an overwhelmingly white city and state is not particularly lucrative. I’m not going to sugar coat anything. We need financial support to keep this space and all that it represents alive and WELL. White Allies to the front. Link in bio. Please spread the word far and wide. https://ko-fi.com/studioarisaema or donate directly Paypal - studioarisaema.proton.me Venmo - @/M-Jamison98 Our goal is to raise $5000 by the end of July. All funds will go towards rent/vital business expenses. Let’s go! Somebody send the link to Justin Vernon LBVVS *laughing but very very serious* 🧐 thank you thank you thank you to everyone who helped celebrate this momentous occasion. Special shoutout to my lover partner in crime and Studio Arisaema co-owner @yonci. Thank you for believing in this vision from day 0. I promise to always believe in you. music @kamillalovee @givegetsistet @jadaaminaa @yonci @m_ada_j volunteers @snacc_lavine Kaaha raffle prizes @almampls @eemanna_creates @jobannymusic food @queenfrye8 photography @yonci @bearboiphoto by @m_ada_j
Beauty Everlasting. From the first time I met @trannilicious she has always kept the same energy. Love, affirmation, humor, honesty, generous kindness and unadulterated Femqueen beauty. Hush was the first record I ever produced for her at the time out of my home studio, and it just brought an entirely new power source out of me. At the time i was what some call an egg or a baby doll or whatever. i was little, a bit timid and just finding my footing as a producer. Working on this Album with @dearmsboogie and Lish, allowed me to see myself as an equal amongst visionary culture creators. Lish always gave me creative agency and told me to trust my gut and my ear. Yall don’t know how much of a gift that is in an industry built exploiting the insecurities of our most gifted souls. This Album was fucking fun to create. We worked on each song until it felt not only good but fabulous! To me that IS dream. Another long caption. Words cannot describe. This music can though. Album link on my page. For the past 2 years I’ve been quietly working on the most important project of my life so far. It started off with a DM from @dearmsboogie , asking me if I wanted to make some beats for her Album. I was gagged because THEE Ms Boogie asking ME to work on her album!? I could not believe it. This lady entrusted me (and the rest of The Breakdown Family™️) with her voice, and her story. I am unimaginably proud of this Album. Ms. Boogie’s “The Breakdown” is out now everywhere. Just look up “The Breakdown Ms Boogie” on any streaming service, or better yet buy the album on itunes. Listen - let the music hold you and let the music move you. Tracks on the Album produced by me: Breakdown Clipped Aight Boom (feat @kyanimusic) Come Again Dazed & Confused Black Butterfly (feat @rosmerayah) tiny bit of additional production on Build Me Up Album mix/vocal processing by me Mastered by @alecness special shoutout to all the femqueens who made this album possible. @ahyasimone @ms.carriestacks @kyanimusic @trannilicious 🤲🏼 and of course @dearmsboogie and another shoutout to @blu_bone for connecting the dots 🗺️ by @m_ada_j
CALL FOR MUSICIANS AND SOUND ARTISTS OF COLOR The Center for Afrofuturist Studies & Studio Arisaema are partnering on a new residency for Twin Cities based musicians and sound artists! We are seeking one artist or collective who is looking for support in gaining access to Studio Arisaema for a month-long residency to move their project forward. The residency includes up to $1500 in studio fees and engineering support from M. Ada Jamison, founder and studio manager of Studio Arisaema. This collaboration is an experimental, brand new venture for both Studio Arisaema and the CAS. We share a desire to offer accessible resources for marginalized artists, and are inspired by the wealth of creativity that exists in this region. This residency is open to all musicians and sound artists of color in and around the Twin Cities. Black artists and artists of marginalized genders and sexualities are especially encouraged to apply. Artists must have their own means of transportation to and from Studio Arisaema. Applications are open now thru 10/7! Link in bio. ~ Studio Arisaema is a professional recording studio in Minneapolis, MN / Mni Sóta Makoce. The primary goal of our studio is to offer affordable studio space, particularly for Black artists of marginalized genders and sexualities, who make up the fabric of our local scene. Studio Arisaema is versatile, offering rehearsal space for bands and DJs, and engineering space for producers and composers. The Center for Afrofuturist Studies (CAS) is an artist residency program that reimagines the futures of marginalized people by creating dynamic workspaces for artists of color. We are based at @p_s_won, an artist-run, community-driven arts organization in Iowa City, IA. In our 10th year of operating, we are excited to establish partnerships with aligned spaces, collectives and organizations across the Midwest in order to invest in the creative output that speaks to Black futurity in this region, as well as continue resourcing artists concerned with Black and adjacent futurisms. by @m_ada_j

Thirst trap to enter the workforce 🤝 Laying my ego and pride down for a moment to ask for some professional support. Let me be clear, i’ve had a complicated relationship with employment for most of my adult life. Not because I don’t work hard… anyone who knows me knows I work my ass off …but because the average employer/coworker struggles with the concept of trans identity, and I find that to be an unbearable and unsafe environment. Partly why I am working so hard to be able to sustainability work for myself and my community. Long story short, I am looking for part time work, to keep myself afloat in this $7 eggs economy. I have 3 years of art install/fabrication experience with @pfunctionary ask anyone over there I put in mad work built walls, painted walls, hung art, assisted artists with fabricating/problem solving tricky installs. Basically I can handle a drill and a saw 💋 If you don’t have a work opportunity, the best way to support me is to donate to Studio Arisaema at the link in my bio, and most importantly, book me to engineer your project or book the space to work on your own project. Just getting started and I’m so excited to share the fucking dope projects I’ve been engineering/producing out of our very special and beautiful studio. I’m also accepting both performance and DJ bookings! Get at me! studioarisaema@proton.me or txt me if you know me like that! Please only reach out with legitimate opportunities/budgets/rates. by @m_ada_j
sharing this with 0 context for now. will share more once i record the song in studio. for now, enjoy! by @m_ada_j
Truthful I have not been having a very fun time. The city I’ve lived in for 27 years will never fully recover from the emotional, physical and economic impact of “metro surge”. Personally in December I had just quit my day job (arts non profit gig) to open a dreamy recording studio for Black mpls(and out of state👀) artist to thrive in a space that prioritizes artist lead workflow and creative autonomy. (Allies welcome too lolz) Literally a dream come true for me. My plans got completely sidelined by the cancer to our society that is immigration enforcement. I like many of us have been losing my fucking mind trying to stay afloat emotionally financially and spiritually. (shoutout @firstbecomeahuman for the g*m membership I’m doing better than i have in a long time physically) The establishment is perpetually enacting genocide on our most vulnerable, this is a new and improved system of disappearing anyone who has a less to no likely chance of receiving legal aid and representation. It’s absolutely fucked and I want just want my neighbors to be able to leave their homes without the fear of disappearing forever looming over their heads. All this while watching trans people rights being stripped away. They want us in cages too. Many of our siblings already are in cages. I pray our allies will wake up before it’s too late and we have 0 rights left. All I know is im not going out without a fucking fight. This is a promise. I don’t really know what coping looks like right now. I’ve been having trouble sleeping so I found myself at 3am in a photobooth shoot wearing these very very cute pieces @sexihobbit gifted me. the guitar is alluding to the fact that I will be recording new solo music very soon. Studio Arisaema will be open to the public very soon. Stay tuned and don’t look away from the violence for too long because it will eventually be at your door step if it’s not there already 🫠 🥀 - M. We create space for Black artists of marginalized genders and sexualities, through artist residencies, workshops, event curation, film scoring and record production. Queering these lanes, we cultivate a force of magic. May this force pull you to the hillside with a magnetism. Sounds - some reminiscent, some strange - invite you to listen with a courageous heart, an open mind and potent soul." see y'all there! Today I am 27 years old yaaaay I have spent the week in ny with my lover, friends and family, celebrating the Assembly film ny premiere, dancing, eating, laughing, crying and most importantly allowing myself to step into my womanhood. I thank the community of this city for seeing and loving me unabashedly. My trip ends tomorrow and I will go back home to my place of birth Minneapolis, where ICE is raiding restaurants on Lake Street, the air quality is so terrible due to wildfires that being outside is a health risk, and the overwhelming white population engulfs any possibility of change. On the flip side I will also go home to a gorgeous new studio space, with lots of work waiting for me there. More on that later. Gratitude. Anyways I’m about to hit up Riis beach with my ppl and catch a vibe by the water because what the fuck else is there to do in this moment If you want to help ensure I make my way safely and comfortably, send the doll some coin! Venmo - @M-Jamison98 Cashapp - $booboo3000000 All the blessings and gratitude my heart can muster, Ms. Jamison by @m_ada_j
