Hello newcomers ✨ I’m MacKenzie!
Thought I’d do a little introduction.

I’m a painter and illustrator interested in personal symbolism, attachments to objects, and observational drawing. Sooo … still lifes.

I grew up up on the coast of South Carolina before moving to KCMO, so you’ll notice that I’m a big fan of alligators. Such a big fan that I named my cat Gator. You’ll see her in my posts a lot because she’s my only studio assistant.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years and have been painting with gouache (currently my primary medium) for 6 years.

MacKenzie Fulmer, @mackenzieillustration, is a painter whose still lifes transform everyday objects into symbols of memory, attachment, and transformation. Blending detailed observation with intuitive storytelling, her work oscillates between realism and fantasy, inviting viewers to reconsider their connections to familiar objects. With a background in illustration, she has illustrated several children’s books and received the Norman Rockwell Scholarship from the Society of Illustrators in 2018. Originally from South Carolina, she is now based in Kansas City, where she continues to explore the intersection of observation and imagination in her practice.

They say it’s the people that make the place and we couldn’t agree more. Precious Frivolities started as a dream and creative vision from @aprilmaddenstudio — a place where artists, designers and creatives could sell their work in a community focused, curated shop — championing the unique, the handmade, and the one-of-a-kind. It’s the kind of place that brings the joie de vivre.

It’s been an art-full weekend. It’s good to be back in KC and engaging with my art family again 💗💗

Thursday was the closing reception for “Anthology of light” curated by @thebeanstalkprinter across two floors of the @hok_kc architecture firm. I was honored to be showing with an amazing line up of artists.

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our Artist Reception & Talk at Precious Frivolities!

I had the pleasure of sharing my curated personal collection, NFS (Not for Sale), with several of the featured artists—including Tanith, Elise Gagliardi, and Rainey King—joining me to discuss their work. It was wonderful to hear directly from the artists and share the stories and relationships behind the pieces in my collection.

Elise Gagliardi also spoke about her own work and the two other artists featured in her exhibition with ION Gallery. Mathew Morgan shared thoughtful insights into his process and unique mixed-media paintings on glass, while Mackenzie Illustrates offered a wonderful look into her practice and approach to self-portraiture through still-life painting.

Thank you to all the artists who shared their work and insights, and to everyone who came out to listen, ask questions, and support our creative community. What a wonderful evening of art, conversation, and connection at Precious Frivolities!

ARTIST TALK SERIES at Precious Frivolities 🎨

Four exhibitions. Multiple artist talks. One night—you won’t want to miss it!

Join us Friday, September 11, from 6–8 PM at Precious Frivolities for an evening of artist talks featuring Mark Allen, Elise Gagliardi, Mathew Morgan, and Mackenzie Fulmer, each discussing their current work and exhibitions.

Mark Allen presents NFS (Not for Sale) at Simulation Gallery, an exhibition featuring more than 50 artists represented in his personal art collection. A selection of local artists from the collection will join Mark to speak about their work and the relationships, exchanges, and community behind the collection.

Elise Gagliardi presents photography and installation work from her MFA thesis project at SAIC, exploring the intersections of image, object, and installation.

Mathew Morgan will discuss his latest series, Brutal Pop Squish, featuring his distinctive mixed-media paintings on glass and the process behind these unique works.

Mackenzie Fulmer will share her painting and illustration practice, including her beautifully observed realist paintings that find significance and beauty in the everyday.

Come hear directly from the artists, explore four exhibitions under one roof, and spend an evening with Kansas City’s creative community.
