31.08.2026 | 39-way UK Head-Down Record

It’s official!

We had all the odds stacked against us this weekend:
- Challenging weather
- A bunch of illnesses
- No Twin Otter (stuck in France due to weather)
- Altitude restrictions

But we managed 6 attempts… and we did it 🎉

Massive thank you to @skydivelangar for their incredible support throughout the year, always accommodating our needs and allowing us to run events in the UK at very reasonable prices. And to pilots @j0be_1 , @gilmore_ben , @gdtho.mas , and Dave for their consistent, tight formation flying.

Thanks to the UK Vertical organisers who have put a bunch of time into all of this, running a camp a month from March to build up the team and engineering the record formation to build from 3 caravans from ~14,500ft: @mafull @greglucas1 @martinjroberson @esharp.22 , and in particular @danguest1 who dropped out of the formation today to fly camera.

To @alexthepotter55 from @caelumsystems for providing SkyTraX units for all flyers so we could nerd out on data visualisations and ultimately improve build efficiency and break-off safety.

To @chantalalice_ for judging the record and making it official after a long weekend at FS nationals.

And thank you to all the participants, turning up on day 1 with an appalling weather forecast and persisting through the 3 days with great attitudes and safe flying. Everyone’s put in a lot of work and progression this year, and it’s paid off 🎉

UK vertical flying is back in business.

Jump #3095 • Cutaway #1

It may have been silly and self-induced, but I’m happy I managed over 3000 jumps with no mals, and the reserve drills muscle memory kicked in when I needed it.

Ultimately this was caused by a very poor throw of my pilot chute. From the slow motion video at the end it looks like it might have gotten caught in the BOC a bit, but really if I’d been more positive with the throw it wouldn’t have happened.

With the PC in my burble (or stuck in the BOC, hard to tell), the bridle wrapped around it and prevented it from inflating. There was then not enough force to extract the d-bag from the container, and still not enough to extract the canopy from the bag once I pulled that out myself.

I was altitude aware throughout thanks to my @caelumsystems Talkable, and went to full reserve drills before 2000ft. You can just about hear the Talkable say “one nine” once the reserve opens.

Funnily enough, the main started to open just as I began punching the cutaway, so my @uptvector Skyhook actually deployed the reserve. A few more seconds though and it likely would have led to a cutaway for different reasons, so no regrets… and the @performancedesigns Optimum flew like a bus and landed great 🧈

Thanks @chris_skydive for the save, @jono2198mnd and @benjamin.goodfellow for returning my gear before I’d even taken my rig off 🙏

On this day last year we were at @pinkskyvan Klatovy training for the HD world record. We only managed 3 jumps during the camp due to weather, but they all looked similarly promising to this!

Empuria earlier in the year was similar with just 4 multi-plane loads, so the Euro contingent only really got 7 proper training jumps in advance of Chicago 😬

UK prep for next year’s Euro record is already going strong with 2/3 successful @ukvertical camps so far and formations building well 👌

Flying my @vertexskysports Flex suit for this one for all the range.

Yes this post is 2 months late, but I finally got to stick my A7iii to my head and film a day of intermediate movement jumps at the Vertex FLOW April camp at @skydivelangar 🎥

Lately I’ve been running the @vertexskysports Swoop Shorts + Jersey combo for all my skydiving - super comfortable and versatile. No need for quick changes on short calls, and the shorts have 2 extra pockets for spare batteries, cards, and other essentials for a full day of filming.

My @caelumsystems Talkable keeps me altitude aware so I know when to orbit or get up close and personal with the leader for break-off 🤏🏼

Definitely a solid setup heading into the summer season 👌
