Looking back on one of the highlights of our MA Innovation Management Showcase.✨

Footnotes: East > West brought together Huishan Zhang, Creative Director of @huishanzhang , and cross-cultural strategist @langylangypoo ,Founder of @artouchconsulting, for a thought-provoking conversation on fashion futures, cultural identity, entrepreneurship, and creative leadership.

Together, we explored how innovation emerges through identity, cross-cultural experiences, and creative resilience. Joined by graduates from MA Innovation Management, the discussion reflected on navigating East-to-West creative industries, building values-driven careers, and shaping more human-centred futures for fashion and culture.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an engaging evening of conversation, audience Q&A, and meaningful connections. We are especially grateful to our speakers for generously sharing their insights and experiences with our community.

We were delighted to take part in London Data Week 2026 through Humanising Data for Healthier, Fairer Futures, developed in partnership with Quicksand, Stby and Knowledge Quarter.

The session explored how design research, participatory methods and emerging technologies can help us understand and communicate lived experience through data more equitably, while asking what it means to work with data responsibly in shaping healthier and fairer futures.

Speakers shared approaches including qualitative mapping, re-enactment & simulation, data biography, and new narrative techniques that challenge conventional ways of collecting, interpreting and communicating data. The panel invited us to move beyond the idea of data as neutral or “raw” and see data as shaped by decisions about what is worth documenting, comparing, abstracting and making available across contexts.

Speakers also reflected on data as a shared resource that should be handled with care: contextualised, made transparent and used for collective benefit. At the same time, data can become a barrier when complexity is flattened, or when certain people, places and forms of knowledge remain invisible.

The morning also featured participatory discussions co-facilitated by MA Innovation Management graduates. Through the workshop themes ‘Values, Governance and Care’ and ‘What does a Fairer Data Future Look Like?’, participants reflected on the values that should guide data governance, from transparency, consent and privacy to accountability, fairness, ownership, community participation and public value.

✱Asterisk - Ways of Engaging

Thank you to everyone who joined the Imaginaries of AI and Shubidubi workshops ✨

It was such a joy to come together to play, experiment, and imagine otherwise.

At a moment when AI is entering creative work and education at speed, dominant narratives can make change seem inevitable while flattening critical reflection. Our workshops made space to look beneath the surface: to consider whose knowledge is represented or overlooked, what forms of learning and creative labour are being reshaped, and which environmental costs remain largely out of view.

Through Imaginaries of AI, we explored AI through critical play, questioning the assumptions and possible futures these systems signal.

Shubidubi opened up another space for improvisation: a chance to think and play with one another through curiosity, openness and generosity.

✱MAIM 2026 Graduation Showcase Archive✱

What is innovation?

Innovation is often not the solution itself. It is the asterisk beside it, the conditions that make transformation possible.

At MA Innovation Management 2026, we see innovation as creating change across interconnected systems, shaped by the questions we ask, the perspectives we bring, and the futures we imagine.

An asterisk points to what has been overlooked: ✱ A question left unasked. ✱ A system left unquestioned. ✱ A perspective left outside the frame.

Our exhibition explored three themes:

Ways of Seeing — revealing new perspectives through design, technology, ecology, and culture.

Ways of Engaging — embracing complexity through collaboration, transdisciplinary practice, and uncertainty.

Ways Forward — imagining futures not as destinations, but as conditions we can collectively shape.
