i think a lot about images. i think a lot about representational images. when i sit down and think about it, i think most of the images i've ever seen have been advertisements. why are advertisements the way they are? to appeal to our appetites. and really, why is any representational image the way it is? what nudged humans to want to engage with image-craft in this manner? These were the thoughts, more or less, that were bouncing in my noggin when i worked on these paintings.

And at the end of it, the position I've come to adopt is: to understand images, we have to understand appetite. ------------- APPETITE Nov 14 @aabeebleueproject photos by @mehreganpezeshkistudio by @makan_ok

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Aabee Bleue Project dedicated its gallery to an Open Studio, inviting visitors into the working environments of Tehran-based artist Sasan Abri and Los Angeles-based artist Makan Negahban. Moving beyond the traditional exhibition format, the space opened up a closer view of the creative process, where works in progress, materials, conversations, and experimentation became part of the experience. Looking ahead, Sasan Abri’s Private Show will be on view in Beverly Hills from August 20–22, 2026, while Makan Negahban’s upcoming exhibition is scheduled for November 2026. by @makan_ok

Opening Reception: Makan Negahban | Vitamin D, April 18, 2026 | 4–7 pm Vitamin D, a solo exhibition by Makan Negahban, centers on the human body in motion. Figures appear working, racing, riding, swimming, and floating , actions rooted in physical presence and lived experience. The title suggests a kind of deficiency. Vitamin D, produced through exposure to sunlight, becomes a metaphor for what is increasingly absent in contemporary life. Set against dark, nearly black grounds, the figures emerge from within rather than being illuminated, creating a sense of tension and concentration. Aabee Bleue Project is pleased to present Vitamin D, a solo exhibition of new works by Makan Negahban. The exhibition opens with a reception on April 18, 4–7 pm |Gallery 2 Vitamin D explores the human body in motion working, racing, riding, swimming, and floating. These actions reflect experiences rooted in physical presence that cannot be replaced. The title points to a form of deficiency: Vitamin D, produced by sunlight, becomes a metaphor for what is increasingly missing in contemporary life. Activities that once shaped our daily rhythm being outdoors, moving, and engaging with others now require conscious effort. Many works are set against dark, nearly black backgrounds. Figures emerge from this darkness rather than being illuminated, creating tension and focus. “Faith” by Makan Negahban @makan_ok What gives us the strength to endure the impossible? Love, duty, ambition—but above all, faith. In his latest essay, artist Makan Negahban explores faith not as a doctrine, but as a psychological force, one that has shaped resilience across history, addiction recovery, grief, and mental health. Without subscribing to a religious creed, he asks: Why does faith have such a profound impact on human endurance? And what does that say about our relationship with struggle?
