I grew a YouTube channel from 0 to 100K followers in 10 months.

- 3.5M views
- $100K+ revenue for my startups
- Less than 10 hours/week time invested

Here are 5 lessons I learned 🧵

1. Be different

YouTube is competitive. The easiest way to stand out is to be unique and challenge the status quo.

If a friend described you, what would they say? “Oh, this is the person who ___.”

My ___ is shipping lots of startups. Here's a simple formula to find yours:

Pick 2 skills you're average at. Combine them and you're unique. For example:

- You can code
- You play guitar

"I built a free app to learn open chords in 7 minutes"

2. Find and replicate winning formulas

If you have no idea what to talk about, do what works already.

Study successful videos, find their format, and replicate them with your own uniqueness.

For instance, you can apply a Mr Beast concept to building startups:

"$1 SaaS vs. $1M SaaS"

Don't reinvent the wheel.

3. Make your title & thumbnail first

Start with these before making the video—they give you a clear angle and direction to shape the content.

Spend 50% of your time on them. Packaging is everything:

- Promise something irresistible, make viewers feel like they’ll miss out if they don’t click
- Trigger emotions like wtf? LOL or curiosity
- Keep titles short, avoid adjectives
- Have 1 primary element (i.e. your face) and a few secondary elements (i.e. a computer)
- Use vibrant colors with strong contrasts

4. Know your audience

You can’t talk to everyone.

Find your people, speak their language, and relate to them through your tone, visuals, and style. Make them feel like you’re speaking only to them.

Use YouTube data to know who your niche is.

5. Tell stories

My channel is about my story.

But each startup I build also has a story:

- Someone hacked my site
- My SaaS reached $1,000 MRR
- I built this website in 12 hours

Every video needs a story.

Introduce a problem, show the actions to solve it, and wrap it up.

At first, it's awkward to speak to a camera. Then you get comfortable and wish you'd have done it sooner.

I paid $20,000 to buy someone’s butt 👀🍑

Specifically, Marc Lou’s.

For those unfamiliar with @marclouvion (or his butt)...

He’s a software Founder who’s built 36 startups. Made $3M, bootstrapped and solo.

10 days ago he competed in his first HYROX race.

Apparently earning $3M from software wasn’t enough, because he decided to turn his body into a business too.

He built a website where companies could bid to put their logos on different body parts for the race.

We bought the butt.

$20,000 to put Stanley on the back of his shorts.

Then finished first in his age group.

Honestly, I love seeing people do stuff like this.

The HYROX experiment hyrox.marclou.com inflates this month’s revenue, but it’s the best month ever for my marketplace TrustMRR.com ($53K) and my SaaS DataFa.st ($31K).

I do everything solo, and I’m not going to lie, I’m fucking proud of myself.

Since I was a kid, I’ve been told to focus on one thing. I find that boring. I want to play and try a bunch of things.

I never felt confident because nothing really worked out for 7 years. I ended up being average at everything: coding, marketing, design...

But building 37 startups (marclou.com) taught me something far more important: resilience, discipline, and optimism.

Over the past decade, those skills have compounded. I now run a tiny portfolio of startups making $1M+/year, sleep 8 hours a night, work out 2 hours a day, and spend plenty of time with my wife.

Anything is possible if you’re hungry.

Getting 5 figures sponsors made me want to push myself and complete my first Hyrox in 60 minutes. Realistically I have the fitness for sub 65, not sub 60, so I’m a bit stressed. It took me 365 days to build my first startup in 2016.

I wanted it to be perfect, so I kept it private until it was "perfect".

A year later, when I realized nobody cared about my app, I burned out.

In hindsight, this was the best thing that happened to me.

It created a frustration that still forces me to ship every idea within 24 hours.

That's how I shipped 35 mini startups that make $1M/year while working solo from anywhere.

Put your idea out there within 24 hours.
