Good morning me dearies!
This coming week I’ll be getting stuck into this year’s brilliant @livirishfest programme and collaborating with @movemadance on two different dance events. No dancing to recorded music for you this week; it’s all live, live, live!!

First up is a Sean Nós dance workshop (Irish old style step dancing) with @mariamiamalone at the @liverpoolirishcentre on Thursday 15th. Tickets are £15 - advance booking required.

Then on Saturday 17th I’ll be taking our céilí band @saltcutters down to the beautiful @liveatstbrides to play for Movema Dance’s 17th birthday Céilí from 7pm onwards. Tickets are £20 and include an Irish stew (vegan & gluten free options available).

This céilí is also serving as a fundraiser for Movema Dance - the indispensable Dance foundation that have served our community with invaluable and inclusive access to dance & music for the past 17 years. With times being so treacherous for the arts they need our support right now. Please don’t pass this by - it’s win-win for everybody; a great night of dance, music, food and drink in a beautiful venue and for a worthy cause.

Please, please book your céilí tickets right away if you want to come; it’s absolutely crucial to facilitate the numbers for dancing and making sure that the event goes ahead.

A wonderful opportunity to dance with live musicians and learn about sean-nós.

Sean-nós dance is ‘old style’ percussive dance from Ireland. It’s really fun, low to the ground, improvised and in the music. You are supposed to dance like yourself, responding to how the music moves you, a great way to express yourself and say ‘I am here’.

Learn some of the history and customs of this traditional art form, dance steps and improvisational techniques alongside some of the best Irish traditional musicians in Liverpool.

Suitable for all abilities and for adults and young people who can concentrate and follow a class structure. Musicians are also encouraged to attend to deepen their understanding of playing for dancers and the natural lift and dynamism in traditional Irish dance music.

A Céilí is for everyone 💚 Join us as we team up with brilliant live band Saltcutters for a joyful fundraiser Céilí at St Bride’s Church in Liverpool.

For us, this evening is about much more than learning the steps. In the old spirit of the word Céilí (neighbour, visit, gathering), it’s a chance to come together, dance, share food and celebrate the things that connect us.

Expect dances and tunes from Ireland, England, Scotland and beyond, alongside stories of how music and dance travel, adapt and change as people and cultures meet.

Never danced a Céilí? No problem. No experience or partner needed, and everyone is welcome to dance whichever role feels right for them. Our calling is gender-free too, so you might hear “larks and robins” or “ones and twos” rather than “ladies and gents”.

🎻💃 Our Birthday Céilí at St Bride’s Church — Saturday 17th October! 💃🎻

We’re so excited to celebrate our birthday with you in one of Liverpool’s most beautiful and special buildings — St Bride’s Church, the last remaining classical Georgian church in central Liverpool.

With its stunning Greek Revival architecture, soaring open interior and beautiful visual simplicity, St Bride’s is a truly magical space. Its vast, uninterrupted shape also creates incredible natural acoustics — making the church a wonderful venue for music, singing and, of course, Céilí dancing! 🎶

We can’t wait to fill this amazing space with music, dancing, laughter and the sound of everyone coming together. ❤️

Céilí caller in training 🥹 I can’t actually describe the feeling when Fiadh just came up and held my hand in this moment but it was everything 💚🩷. Thanks to @kittyslaundry for inviting @saltcutters along again to celebrate an Irish immigrant legend Kitty Wilkinson, who fought hygiene poverty for the people of the city, at another one of their lovely Summer Parties. Thanks also to all those who danced in 30 degree heat! I honestly didn’t think anyone would, legends the lot of ye 🎉 by @mariamiamalone

Congratulations to all our dancers who filmed for Britains Got Talent last weekend! 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜 @bgt got in touch because they’d seen our joyful and colourful performances online and asked us to come and represent the diversity and creativity of Liverpool, which we were very happy to do!
