'Pagan Awe' 2021-2024, oil and collage on canvas, 64x52cm.

This was the very first canvas I began work on after the old studio burnt down. The image/motif is a compound of a YouTube-video glitch (I like those), collage material from books of aerial photography, and an overexposed picture I snapped from a dirty Greyhound bus window somewhere north of San Francisco back in 2008. Don't know why it took me so long.

'Winging It' 2023, collage and oil on canvas, 100x81,5cm.

Been working on a handful of more demanding works at the same time for an upcoming solo show in April/May, so this is actually the year's first finished piece. Feels like crawling out of hibernation!

Earlier this week (in my GoogleEarth sketchbook 'TerraGooglis') I went to the man-made desert of the now-dry Aral Sea. I found a patch of calcified former shore that looked just like a body of water, only to lose track of it when I accidentally zoomed out. Trying to find it again proved fruitless--a straw-coloured needle in a haystack of despair, a literal mirage--until last night when I finally found it. The search paid off not only in the way of the coveted image, but also garnered some 20 other vistas along the way. Here are some of these landscapes; misty, ghostlike, conceptual, textured.
