Y'know what? Y'all are getting the whole dang performance! I made my @coney.island.usa debut this month in @kinetic.cabaret sideshow burlesque version of CLUE. Of course I had to play Professor Plum; it was a joy to make this mix and bring my take to life. FRIDAY in New Haven, the play's the thing! Catch me with @saturnsaysshalom for Sultry Story Hour: Stories of Shakespeare at @v0lume_tw0 as we perform drag and burlesque sure to screw your courage to the sticking place 😉 Free show, bring tips 💸Story time: A million years ago, I earned a literature degree with honors at Harvard. It's where I studied Shakespearean lit under scholar Marjorie Garber, and Shakespearean acting under Yale Repertory Theatre co-founder Jeremy Geidt; my dabbles in scholarship included a junior essay regarding youth in utopian fiction, with The Tempest as an underpinning. My giant Riverside Shakespeare remains a treasured item in my library, and it's been such an honor any time @shakespeare.approves would throw me into one of his 30-minute Shakespearean plays. And, to bring this even more full circle: My first time acting on stage was my high school's production of The Taming of the Shrew, and Friday I will perform a song from the musical Kiss Me Kate. It's fun to dig into the crates after all this time. Looking back on June, and that includes hosting a brilliant @harleyfoxxentertainment Juneteenth Black Burlesque Showcase at @capregionartscenter ✊🏾 Performing in kinship comes with so much ease, abandon, consciousness and joy is a true gift.It's one thing to carry Blackness into every house I enter, and another for Blackness to be the house itself.It didn't matter that I was in Providence the night before. It didn't matter that I was with Bridgeport Pride that morning, to then arrive in Troy, NY, that night. There was no way I wouldn't answer this call for this show and this cast of friends old and new.Always thankful to come home.
