Today can be hard. This whole weekend can be hard.

Amidst the flood of baby pics and proud mom posts, there are many quietly longing. Mother’s Day weekend, a reminder of what could have been, stirs a mix of emotions—aching hearts, silent wishes.

But what we can tell you is - you’re not alone.

Here’s to you, owning the title of ‘mom’ in your own unique way.

Thinking of all the loss mamas, rainbow baby mamas, those wanting to be mamas, trying to be mamas and those who have lost mamas today.

Today we acknowledge and celebrate women around the globe. ✨

And while we know you don’t need a day to tell you how strong, brave and resilient you are, sometimes you need a reminder.

Going through loss, grieving, recovering and processing while also trying to carry on is not easy.

Take a moment to stop and acknowledge yourself for what you’ve experienced and how you’ve navigated your way through it.

Happy International Women’s Day to our Matriiva community today and every day. ✨ by @matriiva

Whether it’s the nosy Aunt that asks you when you’re having a baby, the pregnancy announcements in front of the Christmas tree everywhere, the first Christmas pictures or that you don’t have the pregnancy or baby you imagined you would have this holiday season… this week ahead can be triggering and fill you with pre-emptive anxiety.
💚

Here are a couple tips to help you get through the holidays:
❤️

1. Prepare ahead of time for those tricky questions, because unfortunately, they are bound to get asked. Pre-plan what you are comfortable responding with, and consider sharing this with your partner so you’re on the same page.

For example, consider if sharing that you’ve had a pregnancy loss is something you are comfortable with - and if so, share away! It’s not your job to worry about making anyone uncomfortable - especially if they are asking! Or, if sharing about your loss feels like too much, consider a mindful and honest answer such as “I don’t feel comfortable talking about that right now”.
💚

2. Be mindful of your social media use. We know, babies’ first picture with Santa Claus is adorable! But if it’s triggering for you, perhaps consider deleting your social media for this week.
❤️

3. Sit with your feelings. What you are feeling is valid. Share these feelings with someone you trust. And take some time for YOU to do what makes you happy and brings you joy this holiday season.
❤️💚

Bailey chatted to @parents the other week on the topic of Postpartum Depression (PPD) after a Miscarriage.

After experiencing an early pregnancy loss, you are thrown from the first trimester into the postpartum phase. It is thought that intense changes in hormones alongside the emotional grief of processing the loss can trigger PPD - something often commonly talked about after giving birth, not after a loss.

PPD symptoms after a miscarriage often mimic what is referred to as “the baby blues” - but tend to last longer.

For more info on how to navigate PPD post miscarriage or pregnancy loss, including signs, coping mechanisms and where to seek support, we’ve attached a link to the full article in our bio.

Baby Showers and Gender Reveals 🫣

“How am I meant to navigate these after a miscarriage?”

This is an extremely common question and concern.

Bailey shares her take on it how to approach these celebratory yet sensitive times. 🤍💚

Most people mean well, they really do. But simultaneously they also struggle with what to say to someone experiencing a pregnancy loss.

It can also be hard to communicate with those around you how you’re feeling and advise them on what *not* to say.

So, we’ve done that for you!

Download our free “Say this, not that” handout through the link in our bio.

You can think of your journey post-miscarriage as a puzzle.

It’s an intricate time in your life and different pieces of puzzle help in different ways. And some days all the puzzle pieces will feel like they fit together while other days they just won't. Emotions will come in waves.

Here are a few ways to cope with miscarriage grief:
1. Understand the Stages of Grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance.
2. Sometimes getting thoughts on paper helps. Grab a journal and write what comes to mind. We have a free journal prompts exercise linked above to help you start.
3. Let it out. You’re allowed to be heartbroken, sad, think it is unfair. Know all your feelings all valid.
4. Utilize your support system. Your partners, friends and family, they all want to help you - we know that. Don’t be afraid to take them up when they offer their support.

We had the best time this morning supporting @bridgetsbunnies 6th Annual Bridget’s Run 🐰

Hundreds of runners and walkers came out to support an incredible cause.

The pregnancy loss community isn’t one that anyone sets out to be a part of, but the support that exists once you’re in it is beautiful.

Thanks for a great morning @bridgetsbunnies 🐰🤍 by @matriiva

Look, algorithm. I get it. I clicked on that product or ad at some point so now you keep serving it up to me. But please don’t anymore… 😢

You already know social media post-miscarriage is a bold choice at times, but do you really need every third post to be a new sponsored ad pulling on keywords that are now triggering?

Definitely not.

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

Today we remember the babies that we carried, but we never got to hold. The babies who we held, but never got to take home. And the babies we took home, but who couldn’t stay with us.

Today we honour the parents that were forever changed by pregnancy and infant loss. We support them everyday, but today we make it known.

Today we light a candle to signify our love and support for all those who have been touched by pregnancy and infant loss, because we know that grief never truly goes away.

Today we encourage those who have never experienced pregnancy or infant loss to listen, learn, and show support, because we know it has undoubtedly affected someone close to you.

And today we acknowledge that no matter where you are at in this journey, it is not an easy one. We see you, we support you, and we want you to know that you are never alone.

🕯️

We love Andrew Garfield’s take on grief - grief is unexpressed love, grief stays with us forever, and we never get enough time with those we love and have lost.
✨
Remember that for some people, talking about their grief, pregnancy loss journey or unborn child can be incredibly important. It can feel like a way to honour their unborn child and acknowledge their existence. It can be a beautiful way to remember.
