Another year, another amazing lineup announcement that I’m so honored to be a part of. I’ll be with @outofthebeardspace and @lawabidingrass this year. There are more bands that I’m excited to meet and see than I can describe here, but there’s certainly something for everyone this year at @beardfestnj ! by @mattbuildsandplays

@lawabidingrass first EP is live everywhere you stream music! It was a pleasure recording these songs with the guys. Thanks to @mikepizzlefoshizzle for engineering the session and @thetelemarketer for mastering it. I hope you all enjoy these songs and have a wonderful weekend :) by @mattbuildsandplays

Celebrated my grandfathers 90th birthday this weekend. My grandma and grandpa are both top tier humans who deserve to be honored and I haven’t talked about them much. My grandma, Michelle, was born in Tahiti and left during WW2 when rations stopped coming to the island. She sailed to France with a small group and early on their boat lost power and they drifted for a month at sea before reaching their destination. She’s 94 now, totally blind, and can still cook an omelette perfectly by feel and smell. My grandfather, Roy, worked as a programmer for both NASA and CNES (French Space Agency) during the heyday of space exploration and innovation. Well in to old age, they have maintained ties with friends and family all over the world, spanning more than a dozen countries and many languages and have brought together more people than I can count. Both prime examples of what it means to live a good life <3 by @mattbuildsandplays

I would never consider myself a “real” pianist, whatever that is. I don’t have proper technique, can’t read piano music, and don’t really know any tunes or pieces. But I do try to sit at the piano every day and let something new come out. It’s the most important part of my musical practice and the way in which I stay most connected to myself, my meditation practice if you will. Maybe I’ll try to post more of these in the future. by @mattbuildsandplays

Played in front of this epic water tower last weekend at Oakbourne Mansion & Park. The tower is 65 feet tall and when in service it provided 1,000 gallons of running water and fire protection for the home. Stunning architecture, craftsmanship and land management! by @mattbuildsandplays

Will never understand my dog’s heat tolerance. Hottest day of the year so far. Come home from work to let him out, many shady spots in the yard, AC inside, a hose to be sprayed down with and he lays down here of all places to take a nap. Every time, will not be moved, is offended at the thought of you even trying. by @mattbuildsandplays

Chiricahua National Monument, AZ

These otherworldly rhyolite pillars were formed when the ash and debris from a massive volcanic eruption 27 million years ago solidified and then fissured over time. One of the most surreal places I’ve gotten to experience in recent times. It’s amazing how “geological time” or slow time can create things which seem physically impossible in the context of normal human experience. by @mattbuildsandplays
