W4 Training:

Comp Squat 220 kg x1
Comp Squat 195 kg x4

Comp Deadlift 220 kg x1
Comp Deadlift 242,5 kg X
2ct Paused Bench 97,5 kg x1

Paused Squat 150 kg 3x4

Comp Bench 105 kg 2x1
Conventional Deadlift 190 kg 1x5

Squat primary felt very strong at the beginning of the week. Tipped a little forward on the 220 kg single, so decided to cap it there. Quite nice nonethless after a full weekend abroad.

Unfortunately, after the session, my stupid ass decided to twist it’s ankle coming down the stairs of this gym.

Walking was quite difficult until Wednesday, but deadlift was manageable and nearly pain free. Just didn’t quite have enough ability to produce force through the right foot with ‘heavy’ loads. Hence the little awkward lockout on the 220 and the fail with 242,5. Even though, all this aside pulls felt very fresh 😅

I still was able to get most work in this week, just had to pull back a bit on the secondaries at the end of the week as well.

Solid week on bench press, hitting very close to the atpr for two singles on Saturday. Definitely a win considering bench was a little more inconsistent this past block.

W3 training:

Comp Squat 215 kg x1
Comp Squat 190 kg x4
Comp Squat 140 kg 2x6
Bench 92,5 kg 4x2

Comp Deadlift 220 kg x1
Comp Deadlift 160 kg 3x6
2ct paused Bench 95 kg x1

Paused Squat 180 x4 after 172,5 kg x4 & 165 kg x4

Conventional Deadlift 160 kg 3x5 (not filmed)
Comp Paused Bench 95 kg 2x1 (not filmed)

A bit more ‘turbulence’ during this weeks training. Tweaked my back a little on last rep of the squat midset with 190 kg at the beginning of the week.
Nothing major though, just had to adjust the loads during my Wednesday deadlift session a bit.

Secondary squat session on Friday showed some promising signs. Saturday was all about getting some work in during a weekend of handling at a competition abroad. So also here just adjusted the expectations and loads slightly. We made it work and that’s what counts!

Coming of my most succesful training macro ever, it is time to bring the work of a year long building period into fruition. I am very excited to work towards a competition once again, 8 weeks out!

Intro week:

Comp Squat 182,5 kg x1
Comp Squat 165 kg x4
Comp Squat 150 kg 2x6

Comp Deadlift 207,5 kg x2
Comp Deadlift 175 kg 2x6
2ct Paused Bench 90 kg x1

Comp Paused Squat 157,5 kg 3x4

Conventional Deadlift 180 kg 3x5
Comp Bench Press 95 kg x1
Comp Bench Press 92,5 kg x1
Paused Bench Press 87,5 kg x3

Lower body felt severely detrainded after very minimal training during the South-Africa trip. The intro week will definitely come in handy here. Starting poing on bench was surprisingly great! Started benching with commands to be as prepared as possible on meetday (ze gaan mij nie liggen hebben moat!)

Last week @cas_vervoort.pl competed at the junior World Championships in Sun City, South Africa! 🇿🇦 In the end, he posted up a 832,5 kg total (2 kg total PR) with a 312,5 kg squat, 185 kg bench press and 335 kg deadlift. He ended up placing 6th in the 120 kg jr weightclass!

Squats made amazing progress in training, where he was able to squat 310 kg for a double two blocks out and 320 kg for a single five weeks out. On the day, warm-ups went fluently. The opener of 290 kg flew. We jumped to 307,5 kg for the second attempt, and admittidly this moved a bit tougher than expected. 312,5 kg was the logic number for our third and this one ultimately moved better than the second attempt. Great start to the day!

Bench press went solid in training. I felt like we definitely achieved some more consistent output by delineating the days a bit more where we would and wouldn’t push. Cas experienced some elbow pain here and there, but pacing ourself and loading accordingly definitely helped to manage this a bit more aswell. Bench felt strong on the day and the opener of 175 kg moved well enough to jump to 185 kg on the second attempt. This one slowed down quite a bit at lockout. 187,5 kg for the third attempt was just a bit to much, but in the end we were happy that we got everything out of bench on the day.

Deadlift was another lift that performed pretty strong in training, pulling 345 kg five weeks out. We knew with his nominated deadlift we would probably have a high chance at a deadlift medal, so the goal there was clear. The opener of 310 kg moved as snappy as it gets. After this, we jumped to 335 kg on the second to pace with the total of one of our competitors. Everything was still moving well and this pull practically secured a deadlift medal.

Moving into the third round of deadlifts, the other competitors were looking at eachother to pull for a (higher) podium place. The only thing we had to do was wait and see what we needed to pull for a potential podium place on total. Most of our closest competitors missed their third deadlift. 350 kg was the number needed for Cas to pull into third place. A very strong attempt, but unfortunately not quite there on the day. taken in Sun City South Africa by @maxim_stepman

Yesterday @evyvdl competed at her first junior World Championships in Sun City, South Africa! 🇿🇦 In the end, she posted up a 452,5 kg total (12,5 kg total PR & Belgian Junior total record 🇧🇪) with a 165 kg squat, 107,5 kg bench press and 180 kg deadlift. She ended up placing 5th in the 63 kg jr weightclass, competing from the B-Group!

For squats, our main focus points were to improve the standard and create some more predictibility in training. Two blocks out, we bumped up the squat training frequency to three times a week and we definitely felt this along with a few technique changes resulted in a more consistent squat and just more confidence overall. Squats felt and moved very strong on the day, resulting in a 165 kg squat on the third attempt for a 7,5 kg Comp PR and a 5 kg all time PR!

Just like previous training cycles, bench exploded (again lol) in training making very huge strides forward. The previous comp PR of 100 kg moved amazing on the day for a very comfortable opener. The second attempt with 105 kg moved solid. However, we definitely wanted to pace sensibly, since I knew 3/3 on bench would give us a very high chance at a potential bench press medal, depending on what the lifters of the A-Group benching after her would do. Ultimately, the third attempt with 107,5 kg moved even better than the 105 kg second attempt for a huge 7,5 kg comp PR. This was evidently enough for a silver 🥈 medal on bench press!
